    Hi Olga,
    Hopefully you still remember me! I've commented on a few of your videos before & I'm finally going to visit Kyiv, Ukraine at the end of this year! I'm really excited & I can't wait! You've played a big part in promoting Ukraine to me as I got to know the country better through your videos. Дякую!

    Thank you Olga, another brilliant video (a little short), but extremely well done, as i simply love that beautiful accent you all have in talking english.
    Is there any chance you will be able to do a longer video ( 10 to 15 minutes long ) on particular places to visit while in Odessa, as i am going to visit to see a female friend who is very close to my heart, but she has her hands full with her newly born twins (so she doesn't get out very often)

    Are there big enough waves anywhere on the Black Sea to surf? There must be some nice beaches away from the city, the beaches in town seem very crowded.

    I am always struck while watching your videos by how clean Ukrainian cities are compared to American and European cities. No trash, well paved (the countryside is different, haha), no graffiti, and friendly and upright people everywhere.

    • @Olga_Reznikova
      @Olga_Reznikova  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ohhhh, don't think like that! Really, there is no wall with graffiti on my videos?? hehe, I tell you as secret, but there is a lot! Maybe if you compare with your city, you have more painted walls, but there are enough of them also! ;-)

    • @mattcarroll273
      @mattcarroll273 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Olga Reznikova, yes, I'm sure that there are bad cities in Ukraine too, haha. It seems nicer there though than here. Here, it's all about money and no one is happy. Crime everywhere. Keep up these quality videos! Without them, I wouldn't get to see into Ukraine.

    Hello Olga, another nice video. One critique though, the panning with the camera is too fast. It makes the video blurry, so hard to read the sign on some of the buildings to see exactly where you are.

    As wonderful as Odessa appears, and I do love the beach. The heart or soul of Ukraine is not there, tourists are not the people I want to meet, they seem so lost sometimes...... A quite walk, down a main street, in a small city or village that I know everyone is speaking Ukrainian is more to my liking, I want to feel a part of Ukraine not just be an observer. I'd like understand true daily life in Ukraine, and find a new good friend or two along the way, so we can laugh together ..... even share a little sadness and a tear...... It's the only way, I feel, to truly appreciate Ukraine. I know that may sound strange to some, but why should one visit Ukraine to see only monuments of people and things past, when the present and future of Ukraine and her people, are equally interesting and more important

      Straight up. Odesa is a wonderful visit, and never a dull moment. But if you want to feel the heart and soul of Ukraine, rent a summer house in a village, get a bike, and explore. Knowledge of basic Ukrainian or Russian is advised, but almost everyone speaks some English - and they enjoy practicing it, especially the kids (my experience)

Klup konusunda dikkatli ol derim iyice bilene sor danis.

    This is a nice city to visit, but it is loaded with tourists in the summer. The big draw is an area called Arcadia, having a few amusement park rides, huge night clubs that run until 6am and pool and beach areas. Look on TH-cam for Ibiza to see. As they get many tourists, they also have many tourist scams in Odessa. A local pays 60-70 UAH (2-3 US dollars) to go from the Opera house to Arcadia. Ask in English and taxi will say 200 uah and if he speaks English enough will give you the "for you, my friend, special price. I can take you for only 180uah." With friends, they tell me when taking a taxi, "don't speak a word until after I've negotiated a fixed price for the taxi." Restaurants also can be tricky. Yelp doesn't run in Ukraine, but TripAdvisor is a great resource.

    • @Olga_Reznikova
      @Olga_Reznikova  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I agree, people always want to take more from foreigners. And it's not only in Odessa. The same in Kiev. But what to do... you just need to shoose taxi with counter or take some Ukrainian guide with you. Probably it will be cheaper for you! ;-)

    • @tedbergeron8241
      @tedbergeron8241 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Olga Reznikova Yes, you are right. Kiev also, but I've found Odessa to be worse about it. Good news for Kiev, I saw on Ukraine Today TH-cam channel, that Uber launched in Kiev on July 1st. This is a modern taxi system driven by smartphone app. Calling for a ride, price estimate, payment all done via the app. This will be much better for tourists. Though in Kiev, the metro is great. One Kiev station is the deepest in the world. On restaurants the one tricky thing I've found is that some items can have the words "per 100 grams" in a tiny font. Usually fresh fish or meat. If you order and don't say exactly the grams you want, you may get 300 or 500 grams and have a bill larger than expected. That pricing is not common in USA.

    Are tourists in Ukraine annoying or tolerable. Fellow American tourist when I was in London UK were very ignorant and embarrassing when I was on Underground station being loud and using slang. For me a good trip abroad is tourist that are respectable to locals and other tourist.

    The city centre is not the best though
    You can't smell the sea air for example
    If you want fresh air?
    Better prices
    Not ripping off people
    That would be the region of fontane nr Arcadia
    I recommend beach 11. And 12.
    Also Cuba beach club
    Open minds
    Helpful

      I dont know about Odessa, but I can tell about my city. My city (like few neighbours) was very poor during Soviet time. There were 350 000 people, but here was 2 restaurants, few shops, one movie theatre.... In the center of town was apartments without bathroom! Bathroom was outside, and its up to 1991!!!
      Since Ukraine become independant, city changed crazy fast! Now there are a lot of park, entertainment, any old buildings, new apartment with bathroom;-))))
      But I returned from Nikolaev... For me this city stopped after USSR... old terrible buildings everywhere, nothing new is buildings and I am no wonder people like USSR more..
      So I decided, that problem is not in Russia or Ukraine, just it depends from people. If they want change their city and live good - they will find way. If no, they will always find country, government, world.... responsible of their problems...

      Olga Reznikova olga i back your statement, the wealth of a nation depends largely on its own people. once the american president kennedy said: "don't ask what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country".
      however, the state has also its responsibilities: offering proper education, propagating a modern mindset, values, rule of law, the sense for entrepreneurship, social care
      still you can't dismiss that ukraine has a very long way to go. it will take at least a whole generation until new mindsets are formed which are familiar with modern conditions. capitalism is all about competition, selfishness, pressure, oligarchy to some extent, rumble in the jungle, survival of the fittest. it is not a very social system, there are winners but also many losers. but there are no other alternatives, people have to adopt to it in order to survive.
      but you should NEVER forget about those in trouble, who have problems to adopt to such conditions, who feel excluded.
      act responsible, don't forget to care for those in need.

      I must say, local government have a large power in region! SO yes, we can tell about bad president and goverments, but local administration can do a lot! And who is on local counsils?? It's local people! If them want to repair hoses, make streets more green, build new building etc, nobady deny them! Sure, state policy had an influense, but not as much!
      Yes, I agree with you that we are far from perfect economy, and before I travelled just on West Ukraine and Kiev, I think that nothing depends from locals.. But after Nikolaev and Kherson.. I was shocked! How can people live in such deepressive conditions??And it seems they don't want to change anything!
      But finally, I agree with you! We are in deep wood and need to do a lot to have a good standard of living!
