Bloomingdale library rapist sentenced to life

  • The man who raped, beat and left a teenage girl for dead outside a public library nine years ago was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.
Kendrick Morris was originally sentenced to 65 years in prison for the crime, but appeared in court last month to request a lighter sentence. He was granted the re-sentencing hearing after a Supreme Court decision that determined lengthy sentences for juvenile offenders are unconstitutional, and that they should have the opportunity for parole.

What he did was worse than murder. He relegated a normal, healthy person to a life of suffering and torment, and the parents and siblings now have to spend the rest of their lives caring for someone who is a shadow of someone they knew and loved. This sort of crime is the reason that the death penalty exists.

Obviously in this situation it's an extremely just punishment, however, there are a lot of teenagers and younger people who are convicted to harsh sentances for crimes that aren't even crimes if you drive one or two states over. While I agree that they should be treated justly, lesser, non sexual and non repeat violence offences shouldn't follow someone throughout their entire life, IF they've made the conscientious effort to change.

Queenas’ Mom has written a memoir of their harrowing story, “The life she once knew”, by Vanna Nguyen. It begins with the attack on Queena, her fight for survival that night and over the next few months and years in hospital and rehabilitation, the first trial and sentencing, and then the second. It’s weaved with Vannas’ story as an asylum seeker who was forced to flee her home country of Vietnam as a young woman to seek a better life of safety and freedom from oppression in America.
The utter senselessness of the loss for not only her sister, but the offender of her sister is etched on Anna’s face. She’s expressing “you haven’t only taken Queena’s life, and ours, but your own and your loved ones too. What a waste”. She isn’t mad anymore- anger takes energy. You don’t have energy when you’re carrying that level of trauma and caring for someone with a profound disability. She’s just tired with grief, grieving for a sister with her body in this world, and her spirit in the next.

I don't think you know what happens behind bars. As someone with a family of law enforcement, word gets around about what you've done. When they find out you did something terrible like raping a teen girl and leaving her to die, they will stab you, mutilate you, rape you, anything. Those inmates will just about literally turn you inside out for what you did. This is far worse of a fate than being sentenced to death.

But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other cheek to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your shirt, let him have your jacket also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and from him who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away".... Jesus Christ... For if you only love those who love you in return, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors and sinners do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? I grew up in this town and I remember hearing about this story fresh when I was a young girl. I didn't quite understand what we were doing fundraisers for and who she was I just knew it was a sad story. Years later, I revisited it and I still cannot fully take it all in. I am now 20 years old and attending the university she was supposed to be going to on a full ride scholarship, just like she was supposed to have. Every time I go into a public library I think of her and her story brings me to tears. She should be doing the things I am like studying, working hard towards her career, and making college memories with friends. The man who did that to her is not human. I can't even wrap my head around the pain she went through. If there really is a hell, he is going to something far far worse. I can't believe a young man at the age of 16 could be so vile and evil.
I will always remember her and hope for the best for her and her family. It's so painful the things women have to go through and the level of awareness we all have to keep even in places as seemingly safe as a library. The men who do crimes like this all deserve life sentences and nothing lesser. If only this world wasn't plagued by such evils....

The suffering we endure here is what represses or grows our soul, It gets us ready for our next form of existence. The freedom that we have in us to commit evil, is the same freedom that we have to create love. If god prevented these evil acts it would in turn handicap the growth of our collective soul. @@johnnymccreery4692 "But couldn't there be..." YT never notified me of your post.
Nope. A few examples of systems of faith/worship where there is no god (or God) are Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Combined, they represent over 600 million followers or 8% of the global population. The core tenets of these religions include morality. Among this group, murders are still committed though much less than in external groups. So, no God/god yet evil acts. Thus, evil exists in the absence of god.
The belief of a "soul" and "our next form of existence" is purely a personal mythological or apocryphal belief system. There is no physical or scientific proof of either, especially the latter. It is no more believable than ancient Greek mythological folklore.

@@red94mr28 But what is "evil". This whole conversation is subjective.

Now to the point. OP simply asked "why does such evil exist?" You are the one who brought god into this. I wonder why you feel the need to bring up god when you don't believe. My point was that you never answered the actual question, because the actually question did not ask anything about god. You literally just asked more questions... Its ironic that the person who doesn't believe in god has such a strong opinion on said god.

Zero remorse, zero apology, zero tears, but a doctor said he could be rehabilitated. I’m glad the judge completely ignored that moronic doctor’s piss poor advice.

This is why we need the death penalty. Some people just shouldn't be alive.

@Roman Legionnaire You stole your name from someone else because they had it even worse in Roman times they just watched the people they wanted dead fight each other in arenas and made money off the entertainment of their deaths.
None of this quick and painless death of lethal injection

A COUNTRY LIKE CHINA, HE WOULD GET A BULLET TO THE HEAD THE NEXT DAY AND THE FAMILY SENT A BILL FOR THE BULLET. BUT THEY ARE SO UNCIVILIZED. IT WILL COST THE TAXPAYER $MILLION TO PRISON THIS GUY FOR LIFE. JUST LEAVE A ROPE IN HIS CELL.

The death penalty kills innocent civilians 4% of the time. I'm for the death penalty in extreme cases only, like mass murder. Instead of killing the guy let's address what caused him to act that way. Dont let him free but at least attempt to rehabilitate him.

That was the Old Testament. You need to read what God says about it according to the New Testament. An " eye for an eye" was under the Law. Forgive men their trespasses is under the New Covenant because of Jesus Christ and Gods love for all. Read the Book! I'm talking about the Bible.

You don't beat someone like that unless you are trying to kill them. He basically did kill her. She would have had a full life with children and a partner.
