I don’t mean this as a dig. There’s something masculine about Jon that the movie representation didn’t catch. It’s ephemeral perhaps, but something essential about the genuineness and the vanity at stake. I love Garfield’s portrayal, but like all present displays of past glories, I wonder if something about Jon’s artistic power was lost in translation? Not his compassion for all peoples, but his particular power to state what so many people felt was the deathly air of self-consciousness in his time? Something brave to the point of reckless, to try and show where we were heading not merely as a civilization but as a source of art. He was trying to saying something about our love of ourselves risking annihilation rather than our live of ourselves as loving our queer and lively mess?

I always knew of Rent. Knew the most popular song well thanks to a friend that sang and played it often at random. Kept hearing raving reviews of tick, tick... BOOM! So I watched Rent and then watched TTB right after (just watched it Saturday.. watched it 2 more times since then and have listened to the soundtrack on repeat daily) I was just floored. And devastated. I don't think I ever gasped louder to a movie than I did when they talked about Rent's success and then when/how he died.. that he never got to see it. I knew he had to have died young but.. god, it breaks my heart. I cry just thinking about it again. I've cried every time watching it so far.
I'm so thankful for the movie. I wish I knew his story sooner but am thankful to know it now than not at all. Such an amazing & talented human being that was taken way too soon.. too young.. RIP Jonathan Larson.
Andrew Garfield did such an amazing job. Lin-Manuel Miranda.. the whole cast. Absolutely amazing. I'm gonna be stuck on this movie/musical for a long time.
    Oh and I'm 29! 30/90 really HITS.

I feel like being ashamed about turning 30 and not accomplishing anything is such a thing of the past. I'm 31 now and my life isn't anywhere near where I want it to be....yet I know people my age still living with their parents, I know people my age who are homeless. I think struggling is just kind of the norm for all of us now (unless you are born rich or marry rich) and you are lucky if you are surviving. Especially after what 2020 brought us. As someone born in 1990......30/20 was the least horrible thing that has happened to me .. Idk...maybe it's because life has been so unbearably cruel that when my 30th birthday happened..I really didn't have much energy to be ashamed of it lol.

@Sallieeeeee I know, right? I was wondering who the one person was who didn't like this. I understand the recording is rough and the sound is harsh and all that, but hell--this is Jonathan Larson himself singing this. This is history, and the guy's dead. This is about all we have as outsiders looking in. So what is there to not like here?

Jonathan is such an insparation to me, he has changed my views and life in so many ways. I cant even express the way I feel about his music and work and story. For all of those who say rest in peace to Jonathan, I think it is very wierd for you to say that. He is very much alive through his music and in our hearts.

@@thebigbadbeanman My 30s have been much, much better than my 20s! I worked really hard to change my life, and I’m finally seeing results now. I’m 34 now. If you’re younger than me, don’t be afraid of turning 30. Be grateful you’re still alive.
