As a 14 year old boy I heard A Louse is not a Home by Peter Hammill for the first time. It was played in full length on some German radio station late at night. At the time for me everything was about screaming guitars and there was no guitar at all in that song. It was that voice that grapped me deep inside, also the bass, sax and drums that go together so well. For me it was the beginning of a deep love for VDGG and PH that lasts for almost 50 years now. My pick for the second part is Annie Haslam from Renaissance. Another band I can enjoy for hours and hours without getting tired (they also had very little electric guitar in their entire catalogue)

Your list inspired me to make my ranking. I missed our women in your list and I noticed no attention for Dutch bands. We have so many great bands but the focus is on USA, England, Ireland. But
FOCUS is Dutch my friend. Here we go:
    01 Thijs van Leer Focus
02 Jerney Kaagman Earth and Fire
    03 Simone Simons Epica
    04 Daevid Allen Gong
05 Floor Jansen After Forever & Nightwish

Couldn't agree more with Thijs van Leer. The bizarre thing is that Focus didn't really have a singer, yet he must have had a greater vocal range than almost anyone on the planet. He used his voice more as an instrument than as a singer.

Definitely the voices you highlighted were quite distinct and perfectly balanced for the bands they played with. However, one stands out to me. Greg Lakes voice was smooth and deep. He could go from hard rock; Knifes Edge, KarnEvil 9, Jerusalem, and etc, to beautiful songs like “Closer To Believing “, Take a Pebble, From the Beginning, Still you Turn Me On. The other guys didn’t quite match his range. IMHO of course.

If there is a part 2 of this video I hope you'll include Steve Hogarth of Marillion, since Fish has already been featured. Marillion first came on my radar with the album "Marbles" in 2004 and I've followed them ever since. In time they grew to be my 2nd favorite band right after my beloved Pink Floyd. For a lot of fans like me who got on the Marillion train in the 90s, 2000s or even more recently, It's Hogarth and not Fish who is the unmistakable voice of Marillion. I did give those early albums with Fish a try, but other than a few great songs Ive never really liked them as much as what came later with H.

Regarding Marillion, could you please include Steve Hogarth in the next video, the singer that has been with them now for over 30 years? It's Hogarth who has been with the band on some of their most experimental and artistic work. Early 80s Marillion with Fish may have sold more units, but they were highly derivative of early-Genesis, which even some of the band members will now admit. This is a countdown of vocalists, and as someone who has had some public singing experience (though it was in Church music, not prog-rock) I will say that Hogarth is a far more talented, versatile, accurate, and original-sounding vocalist than Fish. Some of the live clips of Fish here sound atrocious! It's like he's doing cartoon voices, and some of it has barely any melody to it, just shouting & shrieking & pitch wandering all over the place. Compare this to just a single performance of Hogarth's, like the epic "Ocean Cloud", where he takes his voice through several different tones & vocal techniques, from deep & soulful, to heavy & aggressive, to some ethereal, clean-voiced melodicism and even a bit of falsetto - and he does it all while holding a steady pitch. Fish would pass out trying to sing that full song because of all the breath control it requires. There's a reason that Hogarth has placed as the number 1 vocalist in Prog Magazine's readers poll at least twice. I hope you can give Mr. Hogarth some props in a follow-up video.

Good list. Tastes change over the years.
Back in the the day, the list would have probably included some of the following: Roger Chapman (Family), Justin Hayward (The Moody Blues) Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) Dave Cousins (The Strawbs) Sonja Christina (Curved Air) and possibly Arthur Brown (Kindom Come) though he was more space rock ( at the time they were all lumped together as underground anyway )
As someone else has pointed out, the list seems to be mainly made up of artists who were around in the sixties, seventies and eighties. Perhaps you could do a separate list for artists from the nineties to the present day.
