After doing half a dozen Jokerless runs on different Decks, let's see if we can apply what we've learned to the actual Jokerless Challenge mode.

Won today with many thanks to this guide. Mine wasn’t as smooth as this run - (over-reliance on devil (gold) and justice (glass) due to a lack of Saturn/Neptunes.
The biggest switch for me was calculating hands (big difference) and riding your one-shot wins as long as possible to build up an economy. Oh, and good boss luck (:

I've tried this challenge maaany times and failed. Yesterday night I watched this video @ bed, today I got it literally first time. Thank you very much, this was very helpful!
I was approaching this the wrong way, going mainly for arcanas to get +mult/glass trying to 1shot the first blinds to get money. The going for planets 1st approach was way better. Also I got very lucky with the vouchers (+1 hand, and the two +discard ones) and a blue seal early on. When I got to straight flushes I was able to fish for the blue seal every time and kept growing it.
beat this today with help from your collection of videos. while most challenges took 1 or 2 tries, this one took dozens. if you did this in 1 take then you are truly the balatro of universities.
Finally beat this. Thanks for the help Balatro university. Now on to winning on gold stake for all decks

Great job! I just finished this challenge myself on the new update. I ended up using full houses with straights as my backup. They don’t scale as well as the better hand types, but I got lucky because I was able to death a couple of red seal cards. Thanks for the tips as always!

Took a solid two dozen tries today, but I finally made Jokerless happen. In the end I did it on plain straight, no flush. Multiple immolates really came through for me. 35-40 card deck is so much easier to draw hands in.
I havent had a chance to try the challenge yet but its good to know some general strategy whenever i get to it

I leaned in to the deck manipulation to go for quads/quints after an early strength card. A few too many rounds needed all my discards + hands to find the hand, so probably it was not a reliable enough strategy for the midgame. I did get Verdant Leaf though to nullify all my edition/enhanced 8s and had to play 3 quints for 99k and thankfully still one quads to finish. 21/40 cards were 8s.
I absolutely love your videos and you’ve helped me improve so much in this game! I just wonder why you enhance certain cards such as the 10 over the Jack when the Jack would give more chips. I’m sure you have a reason so I’d love to hear why! Thanks!
Wait, aren't Jacks and 10's the same?
Generally, later on the game, the Chips from your Planets and Jokers matter way more than the Chips from your cards, so you don't need to worry about what Ranks you're playing. I tend to avoid investing in Face Cards because there are bosses which mess then up.
@@drspectred I should’ve used the 8 as an example but that makes complete sense and I’ll keep that in mind when I’m playing!
10s are better for straights, they are able to make more straight hands work than jacks.

In a run without Jokers, you're kind of forced to rely on them, plus tarot cards. In addition, latest patch boosted quite a few planet cards

Nah, I'm 99% sure it was an oversight. But I think it's kind of a fun challenge to try to get the Antimatter Voucher and follow-up with the Top-Up Tag, possibly continuing in Endless mode.
I find the intro starting on the zodiac deck to be very funny. I’m imagining that you were gonna do another fake jokerless challenge using it, before realizing that that’d be nearly the same as the actual thing.
Great, now that i beat this on 1.0.1 update using blue seal and 50+ flush hand lvls, you finally release this. Haha
i recently beat the challenge itself, i got an early Oijua i believe it is called making a ton of 8’s in my deck, and i got a telescope, observatory, paintbrush, and palette, which let me get through the first couple antes and buy packs to make lucky, steel, and glass cards to use. was genuinely easier than gold stake but still ridiculously lucky
I just beat this challenge after nearly 2 weeks of attempts, about 5 or 6 runs came very close but lost in the final boss blind (mainly due to horrible modifiers)
my main piece of advice for people struggling: AIM FOR BLUE SEAL CARDS AND POWERLEVEL STRAIGHTS WITH THEM
they will carry you and snowball you into having a shot at clearing the 8th ante, the telescope vouchers (especially the second one) help too

I swear, I can do whole normal runs without seeing Temperance once, but whenever I try this challenge, I get it several times…
@@ErlewynTarots alone are easily 3 times as like to show up and then you don't even have the judgment so another 20% boost in times showing up
35:47 What does that mean? Do they affect each other in some way? If you have the card in your inventory, does it not spawn in the packs/shop?
Are mult and chip bonus effects on cards not really worth it here? I'm currently trying to beat this challenge and I usually shove my cards full of mult/chip effects.

My strategy was opening standard packs and resetting if I don't get broken cards lol. I think the new easy Strat in the new patch will be getting blue seals in standard packs and playing straights.
Shouldn’t you prioritize converting making 5s and 10s of your preferred suit if you’re going for straights/straight flush? Since 1 of those numbers are in every straight
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10s are all equally likely to be found in a straight, that's why he tends to enhance those.
Big blind ante 6 almost felt like me playing gold stake last boss for 1st time. I accidently playwd Pair instead of High Card and lost...

Story time!
Discard used to be on the left as the default. GothiclordUK (another great content creator on TH-cam) was in the original playtest last Summer, before any of the public demos, so he got used to Discard being on the left. When the default was changed to Discard on the right, the option to swap the buttons back was added for the folks who were used to the original layout. Gothic continues to play with Discard on the left.

I swapped it very early on with Discard on the left. It was more natural to go from left to right when playing my cards.
I beat this challenge by playing five of a kind. I believe it was better than straights before the patch, but with the patch I would have gone exactly as you (straights -> straight flushes)
Reason : it's less luck-dependent. Five of a kind requires you to get some lucky duplication / destroying tarot/spectral cards early, otherwise you cant get your four / five of a kind consistently
That first celestial pack dictated the entire run
I finally had a decent run, ante 7 got The Wall and barely survived, ante 8 got The Violet Vessel and didn't even come close...

So weird to me that all the other joker related stuff is banned but Temperance and Wheel of Fortune stay in the pool as a low roll

wait how would you have beaten the verdant leaf? 620*47 is 29'140, so you would've needed 4 straight flushes
30:37 is there some hidden mechanic that causes you to have a higher chance of neptune? I figured it would be better to hold the saturn so there are less planets in your pack
The planet being in the shop and in the consumable area has the same effect about stopping it from happening in the celestial pack. He said he would have more change finding Neptune if he didn’t use the Saturn card, not just picking it up
At that point in the run, I wasn't fully committed to playing Straight Flushes. I wanted to keep playing Straights because they were easier to assemble. 10 minutes of deck manipulation later, though, we knew for sure we didn't need Saturn cards anymore.
Leaving Temperance in the arcana deck is just rude.
Why do you make your steel cards part of your straight flushes like the 9/10 of spades? They’re at cross purposes because you want to play them in a straight flush but you want to hold them in hand for steel bonus
If you make the cards you don’t use in straights steel, then you’re basically playing with -1 hand size while you’re holding them in hand. When it’s a 10, it gives him the option to play it if necessary.

He just said that you can get jokers from antimatter and top-up tag, wouldn’t you want your only joker to be polychrome ?

Jokerless was second try for me, by far the easiest challenge. Pales in comparison to the likes of the omelette
omelette was easy for me, jokerless gave me a lot of grief-- in fact all of the challenges only took me a few tries besides jokerless

Make sure you play on the current beta branch if you’re able to, Verdant Leaf (all cards disabled til a joker sold) is removed as a possible final boss blind, among other changes (straight scaling being buffed) makes the challenge far less painful
But I already beat jokerless

If you got the antimatter voucher would there even be a way to get a joker?
