Bernie was a legend, in approx 1992 he played in my Dads garden i live sitting distance from there now, i can see the chimney of that house from here and i think 'did i really jam with Bernie when i was 20, and useless and unaware of his genius to a large degree, i remember saying 'did you play on fool for your loving? his response? 'play on it? i wrote the fookin song! still seems too surreal it was weird because he was wearing a huge cape thing and eating some of the pig roast, so he kind of looked from the old days, Steve Winston is the friend of my fathers who put em on to each other, he loved my Dads blues band and now hes a hero of mine and i play in that same band, i think he just guested at 2-3 of my Dads gigs, i remember him playing one note and my Dad said 'you hear that? one of his notes is worth 100 notes of another lesser player'
btw i know people make stuff up on here but i have no reason to, ask me more if you don't believe me, Steve Winston i mentioned was in Uriah Heap, he was sacked at the airport before the tour, the one he was there to go on!
still don't know every album like but agree with your comments on Vai not being a good fit, it's similar to how Motley Crue replace Mars with John 5, i prefer ad play myself less notes with more feeling! John 5 has none of Mars swagger and sensibilites, he was a great player for respecting the songs and doing his bit to augment it, i hate what i call competitive sport guitar!
I think they have worse albums than Flesh and Blood. I think it’s close to the best one since Slip Of The Tongue. It rocks and it’s so much fun. Either that or Good To Be Bad are the best later albums. The Purple Album is just boring. Clearly last for me. Restless Heart and Forevermore are only slightly better. Just my opinion
