Zahn is a great actor. He can use silence to speak volumes. He did it so well in Fargo. Love how the desert becomes a character in Dark Winds. Kind of reminds me of how the landscape was used in first season of True Detective.
i agree, @Honest Abe. That was what I liked about Fargo, too. And the same goes for the use of place (landscape) as a character. I also want to add, good interview, Guillermo. Especially when Zahn gets to (a) talk about how much he values acting and how he sees it as a layering of himself that he can present creatively, and (b) the complexity of Native American cultures and how there may be a similarity underlying the experience of being Native American but that there are a heck of a lot of intersections from that basis. And congratulations to Zahn for being a star in a series and an executive producer. Must be fun to climb that mountain and get to look around.

I just had to finally look up some interviews with him because after Fargo, Westworld and Dark Winds I have just seen him nail it every time as these incredibly serious, intense characters, and it was getting hard to believe he was a mere mortal in real life! Dark Winds he was able to loosen up and be a little more down-to-earth than the others, but he still has such an intense and tragic backstory. It was nice to get more of a sense of his real personality here since many of his roles he keeps things so buckled down!
Its been a long time coming. Both seeing more indigenous shows with authentic representation and FINALLY Zahn Mcclarnon in a leading role. He's an amazingly talented actor. No matter how large a role he always brings something extra. I also always enjoy any interviews with him. He comes across as an amazing and special human being. Well spoken, humble, thoughtful and intelligent. I truly enjoyed listening to this interview. Just wanted more!
How is "authentic representation" when the actor isn't even Navajo himself? Or the other two main protagonist characters at that? It feels like these roles were taken from ACTUAL Navajo people who could've played these parts and have an opportunity for THEIR own stories to be told. . . I wonder if he ever questioned if Navajo people wanted this play these roles for themselves? Does he realize that he and the other actors hurt the people of the Navajo by not giving these roles to them? It sound like he and the producers didn't care to involve much of the Navajo people at all. So. . . No, it's not true "authentic representation". I am Diné. I am Navajo. We matter too.
Theres not a thumbs up big enough for this man , he's done so much for me while going through a dark time in my life in longmire. I've watched the whole Longmire series 100 times in the last 3 years of my life. He has probly saved my life 5 times atleast. Also Lou Phillips. Love the Indian nation.
Mr. McClarnon has created so many great characters but this character is outstanding. This series is a great detective/mystery/informative I've seen in a while.
I am just now watching Dark Winds and I love it. I love all the Native folks being cast, especially Zahn McClarnon. I've never been to Monument Valley and seeing it is frosting on the cake. The cultural elements are wonderful. I am a Tony Hillerman fan from the books. I can only watch what they let us watch for free, but I'll look forward to eventually being able to see more than the first one. Thanks
I love Zahn's work. When i saw the trailer, i said its a must watch. shared the trailer with friends as well. Season 2 episode 8 of West World could have been a movie onto itself. wow what a an episode. His role in the Stephen king movie Doctor Sleep was awesome. he was so good that i hated his character. I hope he does more movie and tv shows.

I just rewatched Dark Winds, and I picked up a Tony Hillerman book. I'm really looking forward to another series of the show - thought it was outstanding.
I loved the line accepting of Elvis as a native in the face of a racist white individual who was like no he’s one of ours, clearly not truly knowing Elvis and his background and what he stood for,they used makeup to make Elvis look more white later on in his career
Dark winds season two? I hope if there’s a season three the series will get a better writer. The plot line of this season was torture to watch. Really awful
