If this helps, this animated franchise made more money than any other animated franchise I can think of (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, I’m just too lazy rn to keep researching). Do you think there’s a reason this franchise is making an insane amounts of money every movie? I saw all these movies in theaters and the theaters have ALWAYS been packed! Even the people who pick on this franchise are still seeing these movies. Sometimes when movies and franchises are so successful, it’s easy for people to pick on them, Titanic is another example
this is the best list I've ever seen about DM, all of the other ones are just blinded by the first one and fail to appreciate the 4th one

Personally I think Rise of Gru and DM4 are the second and third best respectively with the original being the best

The 2nd movie is the best one
I personally love the Despicable Me franchise because I grew up with it. The first one came out around the same time I was born and now im going to see the forth later today.
I would rather have several more of these films and Minions movies than whatever the heck Disney thinks they’re putting out with movies like Strange World, Wish, Lightyear, or even movies like Trolls and Boss Baby

I love DP2! Just such a fun movie. I thought the mall setting was such a fun idea.
I actually think Despicable Me 2 is the funniest one, followed by Despicable Me. Although Despicable Me is definitely the better movie
I love the original the best because of its creative premise, clear character arcs, and emotional investment.
But imagine the 4th film setting this thing up where it's trying to tell us that Gru can't truly leave the world of villany and the next one is him returning there for a brief moment unti the end of the movie

Good points but i stil enjoy all the movies including minions.
This should have been the plot of despicable me 2:
Gru gets noticed by the AVL who wants him to work with them for good. This is where he meets Lucy. But then he also gets noticed by El Macho who was impressed by the moon stunt. Gru is split between the good side and the bad side, doing missions for both El macho and the AVL, sort of like a double agent. He starts leaning towards the bad side when he sees the purple minions and realizes its wrong.
I’ve always loved this series, I grew up watching the original 2 despicable me movies and the first minions movie (though I was only really paying attention to the minion jokes and not the plot and message lol) . But now that I’m older, I understand what makes a good movie. I don’t “hate” any of the movies in this series, but I definitely appreciate some more than others. My ranking would be:

I felt Despicable Me 4 actually didn't make sense, how the AVL in the film beginning didn't busted the whole villains staffs and students and shut down the school, and they are just arrested Maxine?
Or I guess it is alright to learn how to be villain and how to do evil things, but it is not okay to used on the people xD
Or something tells me that AVL didn't shut the Evil school because without new villains so AVL will shut down too and they will not have a job😂

Honestly this franchise is just the definition of fine? Like i really dont have any string opinions. Its not an awful franchise, but its not a particularly good franchise either.
6. Despicable Me 2 -3/10
Found this one to be incredibly annoying and the start of the line of mediocrity for the franchise. It has some of the worst jokes in the series, and the whole spy thing is just, boring.

Similar to DM2, but the first few minutes are entertaining, and there are some cool animation thungs throughout.
4. Despicable Me 3- 4/10
There are some okay bits here, its cute i guess, idk its really just so bland. Its not even bad enough to hate its just, nothing.

Some decent gags i guess, but the rest of the movie just feels like more of the same to me. But also i may be biased because i watched this when i was really sick and dont remember much about it.

Idk i thought this one was kinda funny. Has some good gags, and Gru's character feels like a good way to take him. Definitely a lot of pointless filler, but all of these movies have that. Its a franchise with 75% filler nonsense.

@SeanChandlerTalksAbout as a huge fan of this franchise, I must say, I haven’t seen the newest one yet I’m going to see it with my mom at 1pm today, however, I agree with you on Minions, I can’t stand that movie because, it takes what makes the Minions stand out as goofy comedic relief creatures in the despicable me movies and makes them the whole movie to where for me it just makes the characters annoying when they aren’t just used as comedic relief characters to spice up a despicable me film.
I honestly think that for me, is why Minions:The Rise of Gru worked so well for me personally compared to the original Minions film, is because, while the Minions certainly were more front and center in that movie, they also had a young Gru there to sort of balance out the Minion hijinks to where it didn’t get as exhausting and ultimately annoying as I felt by the end of the original Minions which I have only seen once, for that very reason.

I didn’t enjoy Minions because as much as I like them as characters It felt like unnecessary origin story unlike Rise of Gru, I did like Scarlet and Herb Overkill as villains but they could’ve just changed the plot. Same goes with Despicable Me 3 I like Balthazar Bratt as a villain but with the minions going on strike & jail and the addition of Dru trying to get Gru back into villainy felt unnecessary as well it was like revisiting Shrek 4 where Shrek wanted to go back to being a real ogre again. Even though Despicable Me was the first Illumination film the animation was outdated and I just didn’t like it but the story and everything else was good. Minions the Rise of Gru felt like a proper origin story to the Minions and Gru along with the Despicable Me/Minions universe. They could’ve just made a quick gag with Gru asking the minions what happened to their previous bosses before they met him. Despicable Me 2 is my favourite because it was the first film in the franchise I watched back in 2013 and I loved the plot, the action(mainly the final battle with turning the minions back to normal), the comedy, some moments with Gru & Lucy (especially the wedding scene), and the minions! I can’t wait for Despicable Me 4.
