I’m not ashamed to admit, even turning 19 today, I get a big kick outta these movies personally. I don’t expect it to be the savior of cinema or anything, but at least a fun time for me and my family. Something easy and fun to consume. Looking forward to it tomorrow 👍
Same here at the time I'm writing this
Wishing you a very happy birthday!
Exactly dude I’m seeing it tomorrow I’m a big fan of despicable me
Happy birthday!
@@MichaelTomsyck thank you my dude 🙏🔥🔥🔥
The ending song by Pharrell being a secret Drake diss track is the funniest part to me 😂
Nah, really?! 😂
I eat the cotton candy from my walls
@@mcuguy109yup lol, Pharrell ain’t been cool with Drake for years now

@@Beanzopsok? Doesn’t everyone?
Once the minions took over and they took away gru edge the franchise isn't interesting anymore
Ironic because Minions 2 felt more like a Despicable Me Zero than a sequel to Minions 2015.
I eat the cotton candy from my walls
@@Beanzops attention wanter
@@user-np4ol4wx1x I'm a waiter
the focus is still on gru
Despicable 1 & 2 are the best ones
Yeah both of those are the best at the top, 4th movie at 3rd, Rise of Gru, Minions 1, and Despicable Me 3
@@frizz_edits-that’s my ranking to lol
@@frizz_edits-same ranking!!
The face Sean makes is giving "what do you expect/I don't wanna be here" type vibes.
This week the kids get "Despicable Me 4", and the adults get "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F."
If ya want a movie for both kids and adults, I recommend inside out 2, while it’s mostly for kids it has some pretty dark themes
Watch both and enjoyed both
seems like a reasonable trade
I’ve rewatched the first two Despicable Me movies and Minions over the last three days, and the best part of this franchise is also the worst part of them. That being that they’re easy to consume. They work well as family entertainment, but they’re so lightweight that there’s nothing to elevate them beyond being entertaining enough. I mean, I rewatched Minions yesterday and it was better than I remembered. It’s pretty harmless, even though it’s a really bad concept for a feature film. These are just some thoughts I’ve had over the last couple of days. That’s all.
I think the first DM is actually great. Gru has a good character ark of selfish bachelor (he is a super villain after all) to caring adoptive father and hero. He becomes the parent he never had as his mom was abusive and never believed in him until he became a parent himself. It’s not Casablanca but it’s a really good family film. The sequels are good just not great. Minions was subpar but like you said it was entertaining enough.
I eat the cotton candy from my walls
First 2 were so great. Since then they’ve fully dove into the minions marketing. Heck the Poster is the mega minions.
I looked up a question "why haven't the girls aged" and an article came up about an interview that someone asked that question. Their responses they're frozen in time and when people go see this movie people don't care and they're not coming to a movie and asking that question and that was my very first thought! Lol obviously don't know what people are thinking.
I'm still looking forward to this still. Rise of Gru and Despicable Me (2010) were the best ones, but none of them have been outright terrible. The trailer for this was fun so here's hoping it will live up.
I'm a HUGE movie lover/fanatic and aspiring actress. I've already watched 20 new movie releases in the movie theater this year. My most highly anticipated movie of the year Maxxxine is coming out this weekend I'm so excited to watch it tomorrow! This was another solid movie review Sean. I would love for you to do movie reviews and rank the Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Cops and T.I. West's trilogy franchises because all have new movie releases this week. ❤❤❤❤
Honestly I’m not surprised that this is getting mediocre reviews. I cannot picture any universe where a 4th despicable me film gets anything other than a 6/10 on iMDB
Reminds me of fast of furious, both franchises have lost what they started with, turning the main characters into spy’s.
I just watched it, it wasn’t bad it definitely wasn’t the best of the movies but it was good just don’t expect an emotional story or anything
I have no shame in admitting I really like the first 2 despicable me movies, didn't like the 3rd one
But I'm pretty excited for this one, it's never gonna be Pixar level qualities but it's a good turn off your brain flim
Love the kenough shirt
Same I do too
I just think Rise Of Gru is better than DM4. I kinda think that they should’ve made Maxime a bit more threatening considering that He made Gru and his family Hide and live anonymously.
And I know there’s Bratt and Vector but they did more than Maxime every did in the movie especially the role he was given. I’m just glad that Gru and Maxime finally settled their differences though which is a good decision from Illumination rather than Throwing him away after getting captured by the AVL.
Plus, Maxime Intention is quite similar to Vector’s without the Moon part at least and especially how the climax of the movie is almost a repeat of DM1 with some differences. Vector Stole the girls and the Moon while Maxime Stole Gru’s Baby and both did a Sky chase.
At least we can agree Vector is the best villain in this series. He had committed crimes with both DIRECTION AND MAGNITUUUUDE. OH YEAHHHH
Will Ferrell was amazing in this movie, loved his performance. Sofia Vergara unfortunately didn’t get a lot to do
To me, the face Valentina made on the part where they were trying to look for Gru in the grasshopper ship probably summed up the movie for her lmao.
Im impressed that they slipped a Kevin, Stuart and bob cameo in the final shot of the film and thought we wouldn’t notice.
The first Despicable Me is a cute and good movie, and they went downhill pretty quick after that. It's good for little kids, but it's not like Pixar where there's plenty for both kids and adults.
Despicable Me hasn’t been good since the 2nd movie in my opinion
3 is good especially villain
I like that Illumination doesn’t strive for realism. Their cartoons are unafraid to be cartoons. People get mad when I say this but the minions are easily the closest thing we have to looney tunes in the modern day
yeah, if the looney tunes forgot how to be funny
The first two movies in this franchise were genuinely good, and then everything since has been super blah. Wake me up when Mario Movie 2 is out.
The second one was already a huuuge step down from the first.
@@macncheeze256Yes, but it was still not as bad like 3 and 4, it's like Sherk 1 which is still a good movie despite being "Worse" to Sherk 2.
2nd one was bad tbh, the only good one is the first
@@Adnadonah the second movie wasn't that bad, in fact I liked it even more like the First movie!
@@Scrat351 what about the increased number of minion scenes that are unfunny and cringe, the worse villain from the first, the worst gru has been all series. And how some parts of the movie shouldve had more time to develop and some shouldve ended quicker. Its okay but its nothing special and nowhere near the first in quality.
I've always been a fan of this franchise. My biggest complaint with these films, however, is we never get to see the girls age or mature. They're still the same age and look the same throughout the entire franchise.
I agree it's like saying Andy from toy story never grows up and the toys don't have to worry about about never getting played with.
@@angelomunoz6528 Yeah, the Toy Story sequels wouldn't have existed if Andy stayed the same age forever. Realistically, kids grow up and will eventually outgrow their favorite toys.
Also Cars franchise as well like Cars 1 McQueen is rookie racer starting his career and he’s fast. Cars 2 McQueen is at his peak/prime compete in against fastest racers. Cars 3 McQueen is now slower and old not what he used to be and now is coming to retire which I like.
@@supermart0518 Yeah, that was a good idea for Lightning McQueen to become a mentor and retire, I agree! I don't like that he became a blue car at the end of the film, but everything else, I like.
Curious what format you saw it in? (3D, Dolby, etc)?
2:15, ahh, the good old Aldrich Killian or Syndrome villan orgin trope
I saw Despicable me 4 yesterday, and I was just expecting to like it, but It blew my expactions out of the water. I absolutely love it. I rate it 9/10 fantastic sequel. I think Sean is a good TH-camr of reviews, but once again, I disagree with him it's not a bad movie. People who love this franchise, please see the 4th and judge it for yourself.
Was looking forward to this. Your review highlighted all my fears.
From these films I don’t really expect huge stories and character arcs I just wanna watch them have a laugh so for me this movie will probably be fine😊
Ya don’t trust all the hate I will watch it and like it too just will but fun and a popcorn movie
I just cant believe these movies have been going for 14 years!
I have way outgrown the series after being the target audience for the original 2
And the irony in will ferrel being in the series since despicable me way overshadowed megamind back then
How is the 3d?
In my opinion this one was really good, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are the best 3 and are interchangeable
As a big despicable me and minions fan and it was pretty good, thare is a villian
SPOLERS AHEAD
so thare is a villian roach guy and in the end gru and a bunch of previous villians sing at the end, the mega minions gave me a good enough gig that i liked it, thare is lore and stuff, thares a bunch of emotion like gru jr and gru reunited at the end also but thats just my opinion
I have enjoyed this franchise in the past, but in this one it felt like they were more interested in doing a bunch of minion shorts and threw in a thin storyline for Gru to make it a feature length movie. I didn’t hate it, but I instantly forgot about it. Kids will love though, and I guess thats what matters.
I have quite literally grown up with the franchise. I was two when the first movie came out. It has meant so much to me throughout my life.
For me, I don’t care that it’s like a series of mini moments. I grew up with the franchise and yeah while I see the decline in actual story telling, these movies are now the modern day slapstick animation that we don’t get a lot of. Nothing more than pure fun and embracing animation to be a modern cartoon, I’m perfectly fine with that.
Same here bro, agreed 👍
Same here man
Yeh but the thing is, in the first movie they actually put heart to their characters like make them charming and have good arcs. They don't do arcs as the franchise goes on plus they are starting to get uninteresting and it's kinda sad but eh, it's Illumination. What are you gonna do?
I personally feel like the Despicable Me films have turned into the Taco Bell movies for kids. If you want a good kids/family movie to see this weekend, go watch Inside Out 2 again.
well I've may grown out of the Despicable Me franchise so I'm giving Despicable Me 4 a Hard Pass
Something I did wish the film did was have the three daughters have more agency in the movie.
Like they could’ve had some stuff about Margo struggling to fit into her new school and maybe her and Poppy forming a friendship or something
Maybe have something about Anges struggling with being in Edith’s shadow and trying to become her own person. Maybe have something about her standing up to the karate instructor and beating him in a fight or something
I’m a big fan of this franchise I’m planning on seeing it tomorrow
Love your thoughts on the movie Sean it does sound like there's a lot of hit and misses in this one
Honestly after the first 2 Despicable Me films and the 2 Minion film I've stopped caring about the franchise after that time.
Let’s hope this is the last of the franchise.
nice review
one thing the creators might miss in a franchise like this, the original fans are growing, so somehow, i think they should consider that and at the same time gain new kids or fans to it. although, i think its still a popular franchise and maybe kids will still love or enjoy this.
I just watched DM 4, its not the best. As someone who has watched the franchise since its beginning, nothing beats DM 1 & 2. They are masterpieces. The 3rd one is okay. I wish this franchise just focuses on Gru. Sadly, we get more scenes of the Minions.
Damn you were quick to this one
Best movie I ever watched, one thing I liked about this movie was great, Maxime le mal is a dope gangster villain
I'm so tired of Illumination's films being a mess of subplots. They need to go back to the drawing board and try something new. It's so lazy.
I don’t like when film critics say everything that is wrong with a movie or tv show start being more positive than negative because positivity is always better than negativity always
This is a very strange comment.
Do you understand what the word “critic” means? Maybe your too young to be here
That’s the point of a Critic…
@@benpage-mn1bd please respond ans back up your opinion.
critics never know how to to say things nicely when it comes to movies and tv shows reviews that’s why I hate all movie and tv show critics
Illumination movies have outsourced their in in-house studios
I actually have a theory about the villain in this movie. Considering he’s voiced by Will Ferrel, and he keeps insisting throughout the movie that Gru copied him when they were younger, I believe that he might be a metaphor for Megamind. My reason being is that they were both released around the same time, they have very similar concepts and names, and Despicible Me came out before Megamind, just like how Gru performed before Maxwell in the movie. Plus, you could also see his plan with Cockroaches as a jab to the crap sequel and tv show we got earlier this year.
But that’s just a theory
I didn’t think it was a bad movie but I much prefer Gru as a villain.
WIll we get more animated films with a "James Bond" plot?
I think they ran out of ideas for this franchise, this felt like a straight to dvd typa movie. Only part i got a small kick out of were the minions, other than that is was very mid. My 7 year old lil bro loved it tho
I’m seeing it friday😊
We saw it La at night and it’s fun for the kids! It’s definitely overly goofy but my 6 year old dug it
I just finishing watching the movie and I thought it was good but there was something that snap in my mind Max Superball actually had some similarities of the chameleon from Kung Fu Panda 4
1 their backstories-both of their backstories were pretty lame Max Superball backstory was that Gru stoled his play in their talent show in there school years The chameleons backstory was she got rejected by every kung fu School just because she was too small
2-they defeats-both of them got defeated the worst way.Max Superball got beat up by a baby and while he was distracted gru defeated him with one punch and then he fell so far meanwhile the chameleon got defeated by two hits one from zhen and the one from po
3-least good villain-I am one of the few people that think the chameleon is decently good villain but we can all agree that she's nowhere as good as the other three movie villains meanwhile Max Superball was ok but I think the whole fandom prefer the other despicable me villains
10/10 theatrical experience. Makes me wanna watch big red 😂
Yeah, not planning on watching this. I only enjoy the first one and Rise of Gru anyway.
I've always had fun with these movies. As long as they entertain, I have no issue with them
the rock super minion is my favorite part of this film 😂
I am excited to watch the movie as I really liked the previous movies!
Ya
I'm 15, I'm a bit edgy like so this isn't my cup of tea.
But the movie was surprisingly "decent" or enjoyable to the point where I didn't have to question myself "why the fuck am I watching this."
Despicable 3 and Rise of Gru is my favorite. I just saw despicable 4
I’m going to see it tomorrow
I was wondering why drew is not in it?
It be good a another sequal despicable me if they make another origin story how gru transfer to villain school it be good he's dreams to be villain
This movie was just so unremarkable, Despicable Me is a franchise that I liked at first but it very quickly overstayed it’s welcome and has since then turned out dud after dud after dud, I literally haven’t seen a good movie out of this franchise since the second movie in 2013, meaning they haven’t put out a good movie in 11 years, and so for that reason I had next to no faith in Despicable Me 4, and low and behold I was right
Even though it’ll be very quick because there’s not many of them I’ll start out with the positives, Steve Carrell still does a good job as Gru, much like Tom Kenny with SpongeBob even though the franchise itself hasn’t been good for a long time you still feel his passion and energy for this role whenever you hear him, the best thing in the movie for me was this evil little girl named Poppy, I thought she was pretty entertaining, and even though her character is a little back and forth and probably could’ve used a bit of tweaking what we got with her was enjoyable, and lastly I thought the ending was kinda interesting, there’s a big song number and even though I’m probably reading too deep into it the people you see in it and the song itself makes it almost feel like a final farewell from the franchise, who knows if that was in the intention or not but that’s how it felt to me
Other than that though this movie was just forgettable in every sense of the word, mainly because the story itself is so unfocused, it starts out setting the stage for Gru and the main villain’s butting of heads, but then very quickly he’s sidelined and forgotten about for like half the movie, and for the rest of the time being it’s like we’re just sitting around patiently waiting for him to find Gru again because not that much really happens until then, the only thing of interest is the stuff between Gru and Poppy, although even though the thing they have to do is interesting from a character standpoint the actual objective literally built up to them just making a dated reference, speaking of the main villain he easily gets the grand prize for the worst villain in the entire franchise, I mean by god, this guy is unbelievably forgettable, his backstory is lame as shit and his actual plan isn’t even that interesting, I wasn’t a fan of Balthazar Brat’s personality in the third movie but he *at least* had a backstory that was kinda funny, this guy just had *nothing* interesting about him, and remember how the movie was marketing itself around the superpowered Minions? Guess what? They’re barely in the movie, they have 1 scene of them attempting to stop crime after they first get created but after that they’re completely sidelined until the climax of the movie, I’m not even kidding, the entire focal point of the marketing and it’s not even in the movie that much, it’s like they did it just to try and cash in on the current superhero craze
So in the end this movie just left no impact on me whatsoever, although, and I know I’m probably gonna get a lot of hate for saying this, I do think it’s the most watchable movie in the franchise since the second movie, I even think the first Minions movie is better than 3 and Rise Of Gru because 4 and Minions at least had 1 redeeming thing about them (Scarlet Overkill & Poppy) whereas 3 and Rise Of Gru literally had *NOTHING* redeemable about them, but make no mistake I still thought this movie was very bad and forgettable as shit, the plot is unfocused, the jokes are boring and easy and it’s just a shining example of how dull and worn out this franchise has become. 4/10
I was expecting more from the 4th entry. 1 is still the best by far.
1st is entirely better. Has a good story and plot, likeable characters, emotional beats, Vector, thrilling and fun action, and nice voice acting.
I know people may not agree but I really liked this one, I thought it was a good return to form after 3 disappointed me. The villain was a lot of fun, the animation was good, the comedy was good but not on par with the first movie. But the Ending is what made me really like the movie. SPOILER AHEAD
The Ending at the Prison with Everyone Wants To Rule the World with all of the franchise’s villains in one room was the most hype I was in a theater ever since dune 2
And this is why Kung fu panda 4 should’ve got the f**king IMAX release in theaters 😡😡😡
No Other Despicable Me Movie Is Ever Gonna Reach The Level Of The First 2 Ever Again In My Opinion, The First 2 Were Perfectly Done
At the same time you shouldn’t be expecting a good story but I liked the movie
I had a better time with the Finn McMissile plot in Cars 2 than what Gru has become. That says a lot seeing as I can't stand that movie, but they did more with the spies that kept me interested in them than these last few movies have done with their premise. Talking about Cars 2 the last DM movie and this movie suffer from the same "too much shit going on itis" as I put it. They barely had anything for the three girls to do in the last movie and now in this one they added a baby. They need to get back to brass tax and focus on what the original Despicable Me did.
Should’ve stopped at 2. That was the best one imo
Gru felt so out of character. I enjoyed Kung fu panda 4 better
I rather watch Inside Out 2 than Despicable Me 4.
I was of course looking forward to this since its Despicable Me and I've seen and liked the rest of the franchise but even though its disappointing thats its pretty mediocre, its certainly not that surprising, coming from the 6th film in an illumination franchise. The only thing i found kinda interesting was the mega minions, it did annoy me and make me roll my eyes with how 95% of the trailers was joke, joke joke 🙄. Looks like this will be the same as Kung Fu Panda 4. A sequel that was mainly made because they know it will make a lot of money but they wasted all the potential to make the story, villain and characters interesting
Banana!
Who thinks it would be interesting if they made a spinoff about the girls? I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately
Did they mention what happen to Dru
I don’t think so. If they did it was like a throw away line
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbouthe still did appear though at the end so it’s basically confirmed that He’s fine.
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout They literally showed Dru at the end.
Now rank illumination movies
i thought it was ok, good for children but nothing really beyond that.
Idk why but it bugs the absolute hell out of me that's none of the girls have ages at all in any of the movies.
India me to 😂 Friday ko ayigi 5july
I have lost all of my interest in this franchise since 2017.
I seen nothing wrong with this movie and the audience score on rotten tomatoes proves it
Dispicable me 4 rate 9%10
The movie was okay, but I dropped of this train after the 2nd or the Minions movies. At the same time, I’m not the target audience. The trailer looks tolerable. But will probably skip this.
I like the series, the animation is amazing, but the last Minions was awful and this looks like more of the same.
Despicable Me 1-3, Minions 1, 2 and Rise of Gru + DM4 = 7, not 6.
@@richardbaker183 rise of gru and minions 2 are the same movie
So just gags, no substance, and just more of the same mindlessness
I’ll pass.
Maybe they can turn it around with De5picable Me
This movie sucked they were jsut doing random stuff there was no plot in it at the very least at least it was funny a few times though
Save. Your. MONEY! Below mid!
No.
The plot of illumination movies doesn't make any sense
DM1 made sense a bit. Gru wants to capture the moon to become the greatest villain of all time all to make his mom proud, even when he fails every time. But when the girls came along, he had achieved something better than a space rock, which was family. That was what made his mom proud at the end.
I guess this is the franchise equivalent to Thor love and thunder. Funny enough both movie trailers contain the song Sweet Child O’ Mine.
I mean this franchise really has kind of run its course at this point. You need to do a LOT to justify the existence of a sixth movie in this franchise, and it seems like this hasn't done it.
Bro your letterbpxd didn't exist
