Notice how in every invasion and weapon showcase he always finishes with "fun fight". But, on this one, he finishes with "i'm so sorry" and "I feel terrible"
@@theloyalwraiths8827 MV isn’t bad it’s just meh. The WA is telegraphed VERY badly. Easily dodged, MV/RoB is only OP when against more than one or projectile spam, then you’ll need to do some risk calcs 🙃 Nagikiba best katana currently imo, flexible WA, increase range, same attacks and speed :)

It outdamages AoWs like giant hunt despite being fast enough to be reaction traded into giant hunt. This is the issue with moonveil. On top of Katanas being overtuned in this game, and bleed being overtuned, which they all have innately. While the Nagakibas reach is ridiculous, and I frankly think it should have lower damage than it does because of that. The moonveils AoW is game breaking. As it can freely punish any whiff with little to no skill.
I adore that Chase even seems a bit pained when he wins with the Moonveil. Like, he's proven there are ways to outplay the Moonveil but its such a good weapon you can tell he feels a bit like he's bullying - or at least absent of his preferred originality - and its paining him.
We have to appreciate videos like this, the "I'm dying of cringe using this weapon" fealing could be heard on chase's voice throughout the whole Showcase. thx for toughing it out man
I doubt even he could make it work. That weapon just sucks. Colossals have an awful move set, and with the exception of the Fallingstar Beast Jaw they all have awful AoW.
@@-Four- It can definitely be annoying having to gimp your build in order to use a weapon fairly. Plus, those stats have to go somewhere useful, and not everyone is into using Larval Tears every time they wanna use a single weapon lol
He knows it's unfair weapon and the duelers are "not quite" at the skill level what Chase is presenting. Either he's a wholesome guy or he's sad because his test subjects died too early.
I’ve genuinely never seen more than 1 r1 at a time from this weapon and I think that’s because the user accidentally wasn’t pressing whatever their weapon art key is bound to
The "Samuel Rodriguez" guy with the lightning katana was cosplaying a character from metal gear rising, Samuel Rodriguez/Jetstream sam which uses a red katana that emits red lightning
See, this is why I don't like hearing "l2p" in response to Rivers or Moonveil complaints. "Just parry" works against a *bad* player, and they still have a chance to maul you if you miss. Against an expert, or even just someone who understands roll catching and mixups, they just become terrifying. Parrying only works against blind players who can't see a shield, and I can't expect everyone to be that dumb!
Try a decent shield with Scholar's Shield buff. Pretty sure it will block moonveil no problem, and it doesn't require any skill. I've been trying to test it but moonveils are actually pretty rare in RL125 duels these days.
This is true for Moonveil since its speed, range and damage are way overtuned. In the hands of an experienced player like Chase, this weapon becomes a destroyer of hosts. Because it's so fast the best a high level player can do is read their opponent and anticipate Transient Moonlight and dodge it or parry it. However, RoB is mostly a noob stomper. A bad player will attempt to trade with Corpse Piler, but their attempt will be short-lived. In the hands of an experienced player, RoB doesn't gain as much power as the Moonveil. Unlike Transient Moonlight, Corpse Piler has a decent amount of startup frames which allow focused/experienced players to dodge or parry it with ease. At best, it becomes a mix-up to catch your opponent off-guard - not any different from a dozen other skills.
The moonveil is still the best pvp weapon in the game imo. In the hands of a good player they can use that ash of war to its maximum potential and basically have a delete button of a sword. The move-set is great to. Rivers of Blood is great too but that ash of war is easier to evade. It’s the “noob” weapon if their was one.
I picked up this.. accursed weapon on my first playthrough as an int build and proceeded to wreck one of the fallingstar beasts while it was unupgraded. Dropped it immediately afterwards because I felt like it too away the challenge from the game.
tbh moonveil is actually harder than int build. At least you have to be some what close and personal to the enemy while using the weapon unlike pure int where you just delete them from miles away. but yea moonveil is too op imo especially that R2 ashe of war staggered boss easily in 2 to 3 hits before the nerf. Also reason why i went full dex build without any magic or incantation for the first time exp.

Give it a go! It might be quite a bit more challenging than other weapon set-ups, but I found I could make it at least somewhat viable with a little practice - just as Chase has demonstrated. And the payoff when you finally beat Soldier of Godrick with it is phenomenal. I never felt this accomplished before!
@@heyhoojoe It is quite difficult to master so far - holding L2 while hitting light or heavy attack is a tricky combo. But tbh, I think I might need more than this raggedy moonveil to defeat The Soldier of God, Rick.
Because it feels the same as backstabbing little babies? If the bad feeling you get from killing someone with moonveil is something you enjoy then go for it. Many of us can't ruin our game like that lol
As someone who DESPISES this sword, Barrier of Gold incantation makes this sword a lot more manageable to fight, should get you to around 70% magic damage negation (That's counting if you have armor on with magic negation already)
And it's one of those things that can obliterate an opponent. Put a godfrey icon, a shard of alexander and Bull-goat's talisman so you can endure a hit and bring down the pain
if you did not know the guy he fought samuel rodriguez is a reference to jet stream sam from MGRR and the reason the put lightning grease on is because in MGRR jetstream sam wields a high frequency blade which is basically a blade enhanced with lightning capabilities and samuel rodriguez is a absolute chad in the first game he was shown in

The AOW should do 400-500 damage like the Wing of Astel R2. Even with a 60% damage reduction it would STILL be viable because the attacks come out absurdly quick, with 2 options, huge range or sweep. Or it should cost 50+ FP.
I literally just found this weapon. Loving it!! Havent watched any spoilers on this game really. And finally got a next gen😒 console to be able to play it. Gotta say its good to watch your videos again.
its just really useful in pve for all the annoying enemies who are constantly flying and jumping away from you when you try to hit them. the damage is really lack luster vs rivers tbh and i think the poise break on moonveil is broken rn. it doesnt break at all some times (and yes i hit with the blade and not only the spell)
@@ts6603 I haven’t used RoB, but the damage on Moonveil is plenty fast enough. And the lack of poise damage doesn’t even matter. I went pure int dual wielding it with various other kitanas for my second play through and just walked through everything, it’s disgustingly good.
My first character was a Dex Samurai, when I found the Wakizashi I paired it with my Uchigatana. But then I found Moonveil in a cave, and I INSTANTLY respected for Intelligence, then complimented it with a Blood Wakizashi. This was during my blind playthrough, I followed no guides, took no advice, I simply read the stats, felt the Ash of War, and knew I found something that would carry me to the ends of the earth. I love Moonveil and you'll have to pry it out of my cold, hollowed fingers because I earned it; It's my build I made for myself, "meta" be damned.
this thing has some twisted mixups when paired with any other katana, you can use the ash of war to sheath, but hit your lb/l1 for a timing mixup that crushes skilled players retaliating your veil, you can also do a crouch lb/l1 from the sheath for a totally different brutal mixup. after those mixups i usually throw out the veil when they're panicking for the close. usually i run a cold Nagikiba with Phalanx in my offhand, the followup for the phalanx is basically the Nagikiba's default AoW, and it messes with people seeing you use a long katana to cast phalanx.. all together my katanamancer build mangles people in invasions pretty well, havent done a standard duel with it yet as i havent fully finished upgrading the character and gear, been doing invasions through progression.
For future reference, it’s pronounced “Mah-Ray” :) It’s a French word. Been thoroughly enjoying the showcase videos otherwise, even if it’s for weapons like Moonveil lol
Grafted dragon. With 2 if them, you can powerstance. And the AoW is bugged, so the offhand RKR still buffs it. It also works with any other weapon buff. You can add magic, bleed, frost, even death build up on the lingering fire (though it builds very slowly).
I’d love to see the Dragon Halberd- I love the variety of attacks you get from powerstancing the poke halberds and changing between the L1 and R1 and the ash of war is aesthetically cool if nothing else (that being said if you wait a second before doing the follow up people do get caught out by it.)
Brick hammer with prayerful strike on one with flame of the redmanes or any other fire one on the other makes for a good combo. I’ve also paired the brick hammer with the rotten battle hammer and given it bleed to counter some people with rivers of blood or moonveil they tend to keep their distance when they see the buildups
Moonveil!! The ash of war damage might be overtunned in PvP, but I will always love this weapon, as it carried me through my 1st Elden Ring playthrough, and it was Transcient Moonlight heavy attack that delivered the final blow on Malenia, after a couple of hours trying and learning her moves. Would love to see my other two favorites on this series, the Fallingstar Beast Jaw and the Nox Flowing Sword. The Nox specially has a very underrated ash of war, specially for invasions, as it goes through walls and seems to go around shields, with a very respectable damage.
I found this video very cathartic: the juxtaposition between a normal Chase showcase, where his technique and expertise are obviously playing a role in how well the weapon does, and this one, in which he barely had to try, really makes palpable how unbalanced certain elements of the game are, and helped vindicate the feeling of frustration I experience when I encounter Moonveils in duels. But I also love that Chase made that remark about the interchangeability of AoWs and how their interchangeability makes fights so interesting - it was a good reminder that, even with certain issues like Moonveil, the game has a lot of potential that may yet be developed.
u should start doing build showcase instead of weapon and have it just invasions and builds that got like spells and incants. would be so good to watch
loving the series, could you please try Helphen's Steeple? its a greatsword with an ash of war that cuases frostbite buildup and i really havent see it being used at all

imo they should add more poise to when you are using the ash of war. The windup has high poise but when its spinning any attack will cancel it

The godskin king was a good idea, unfortunately he came on the wrong weapon showcase
i leave the duel if someone uses a healing flask. every time. makes for a boring fight and less skilled fight.

One of the coolest movesets yet all I ever see people do with it is dual wield and running pokes for bleed procs. Truly a shame.

I've been building a dex int character for pvp and grabbed this sword and it's the easiest run of pve I've had yet.
So Ludwig's guiding moonlight went and had a baby with the Chikage...
My first character was a Dex Samurai, when I found the Wakizashi I paired it with my Uchigatana. But then I found Moonveil in a cave, and I INSTANTLY respected for Intelligence, then complimented it with a Blood Wakizashi. This was during my blind playthrough, I followed no guides, took no advice, I simply read the stats, felt the Ash of War, and knew I found something that would carry me to the ends of the earth. I love Moonveil and you'll have to pry it out of my cold, hollowed fingers because I earned it; It's my build I made for myself, "meta" be damned.
this thing has some twisted mixups when paired with any other katana, you can use the ash of war to sheath, but hit your lb/l1 for a timing mixup that crushes skilled players retaliating your veil, you can also do a crouch lb/l1 from the sheath for a totally different brutal mixup.
after those mixups i usually throw out the veil when they're panicking for the close.
usually i run a cold Nagikiba with Phalanx in my offhand, the followup for the phalanx is basically the Nagikiba's default AoW, and it messes with people seeing you use a long katana to cast phalanx..
all together my katanamancer build mangles people in invasions pretty well, havent done a standard duel with it yet as i havent fully finished upgrading the character and gear, been doing invasions through progression.

Grafted dragon. With 2 if them, you can powerstance. And the AoW is bugged, so the offhand RKR still buffs it. It also works with any other weapon buff. You can add magic, bleed, frost, even death build up on the lingering fire (though it builds very slowly).

Ornamental straight swords from the first boss fight. Golden tempering is the ash of war it buffs it with holy damage and changes the charged heavy
I like to keep a pocket Moonveil on my INT character to counter Rivers of Blood and other Moonveils. it works especially good against RoB

I’d love to see the Dragon Halberd- I love the variety of attacks you get from powerstancing the poke halberds and changing between the L1 and R1 and the ash of war is aesthetically cool if nothing else (that being said if you wait a second before doing the follow up people do get caught out by it.)

My favorite part of these videos is that Chase makes any weapon seem OP, but when he uses an actual OP weapon.. dang!
I think this really proves how unbalanced/overpowered this weapon is... compared to the other showcases, nothing comes close

Brick hammer with prayerful strike on one with flame of the redmanes or any other fire one on the other makes for a good combo. I’ve also paired the brick hammer with the rotten battle hammer and given it bleed to counter some people with rivers of blood or moonveil they tend to keep their distance when they see the buildups
I want to see the pike with the sword dance ash of war. One of my favorites in the game for pvp

Moonveil!! The ash of war damage might be overtunned in PvP, but I will always love this weapon, as it carried me through my 1st Elden Ring playthrough, and it was Transcient Moonlight heavy attack that delivered the final blow on Malenia, after a couple of hours trying and learning her moves.
Would love to see my other two favorites on this series, the Fallingstar Beast Jaw and the Nox Flowing Sword. The Nox specially has a very underrated ash of war, specially for invasions, as it goes through walls and seems to go around shields, with a very respectable damage.

I found this video very cathartic: the juxtaposition between a normal Chase showcase, where his technique and expertise are obviously playing a role in how well the weapon does, and this one, in which he barely had to try, really makes palpable how unbalanced certain elements of the game are, and helped vindicate the feeling of frustration I experience when I encounter Moonveils in duels. But I also love that Chase made that remark about the interchangeability of AoWs and how their interchangeability makes fights so interesting - it was a good reminder that, even with certain issues like Moonveil, the game has a lot of potential that may yet be developed.
Repeated thrust, or impaling thrust are some pretty underrated ashes of war
u should start doing build showcase instead of weapon and have it just invasions and builds that got like spells and incants. would be so good to watch

loving the series, could you please try Helphen's Steeple? its a greatsword with an ash of war that cuases frostbite buildup and i really havent see it being used at all
