In this presentation, Price has been performing the piece for 25 years. And like no other soprano, gives a petulant and indignant vocal characterization meant for the radio broadcast listener to visualize. as well as her live audience to behold.. The vocal choices are purely her own, and for lesser singers would be troublesome, but it's the reason she causes such excitement.
I'm looking for the cassette I made that night, from my local fm station. I listened to the entire concert many times, in the years following, blasting away in my car. I cannot find a recording commercially. The entire concert was amazing.
I think that this was something that she wanted to try during her last years of singing. You can hear the orchestra almost swallowing her voice at some points.. she was a lirico spinto - Dramatic Soprano she is not.
Interesting enough, listen to her sing this piece when it was 1965 when the voice was younger she has pristine slice through the orchestra.. i don't know what happened here ...perhaps the leveling of the orchestra and her recording Mike wasn't right.
Thrilling, exciting visceral, maniacal! The spectacular artistry of the incomparable Price captured brilliantly in this one aria. Bravissima!
Extraordinaire Leontyne Price. C'est un chant venu des profondeurs du temps. Magnifique.

This is one of the most energized scenes in opera, and every time Price sings it, she’s give it everything! Brava!
Every tone she produces is by choice!
I think I’m responsible for 200 of these views 😅
Really not her repertoire
