I stumbled across this bag on sportsman’s guide…6 for $17! Thank you for all the measurements and the part where you’re using it by the creek. Gives it more perspective.
It's a military gas mask, probably 1983, as this type of bags were manufactured in 80's (i.e. earlier models didn't have the hip belt ). Stuff in the tin box it's an anti fog lens attachment. I love to use them as a day packs for canteen cook set haversacks, you don't have to remove the canteen from the bag to drink. Also with a little, no sewing modification you can extend the shoulder strap
I have a couple of these that i really like. Both of my bags are the same as yours but neither of mine have the waist strap and the shoulder strap is sew on straight up and down on the sides. My favorite of the two i have has two narrow straps that come down under the bottom and is ideal for strapping a poncho or light jacket or small tarp to. they are great for day hikes and short excursions. Great review glad to see one on this little bags as they are very handy
Wayne Autwell I think the two narrow straps version would be better for me because I never use a waist strap. I may modify mine so it has that feature. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
I just ordered two of these. Figured they'd make a great day bag or haversack. Can't have too many bags. I'm always hauling something around. A lot of the com-bloc surplus like bread bags and gas mask bags are fairly nondescript and you can wear them in public without getting the "camo evil eye" as I like to call it.
Hurricane I hope you enjoy them. They are a lightweight material so they work well for everyday use without the “camo evil eye” lol! I’ve seen the look before out in public. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Another great review John! I had to laugh seeing your son stop to throw sticks into the creek! On an evening hike last week, my son and daughter had fun doing the same thing! Might have to check one of these bags out for a light day hike haversack! Thanks for the review brother! Blessings!
Dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf recently :)
My canteen cup cook kit is a gas mask bag to, but I'm unsure of its origin. I think it's from Sweden... I need to check that out. That stream sure looked clean!
Carolina Chris Outdoors The water was very clean and cold. That segment was the last thing I filmed on my vacation. It was at Amicalola Park. Have you ever used your gas mask bag on any of your videos? If you have, let me know which one so I can see it. As always, thanks for watching my video and for your comment!
Carolina Chris Outdoors I went back and took a look at about 4 of your CCT videos. I never realized it is a military surplus bag. I always thought it was one of those lunch coolers. It kind of reminds me of a British gas mask bag I have seen but it doesn’t seem to be that one. If you find out what it is just mention it in one of your videos if you want. See you next time!
Carolina Chris Outdoors if I remember right, TH-cam used to have a link in the About section that sent a private message. I don’t see that anymore. I see you have your address there on your page so I will email you.
ben terwellen Thank you! The bag is a little small. Hopefully if someone is looking to buy one, my video will be of help so they know what they are getting. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
The gas mask bag is a small extra carry stick with the bread bag

John Sherwood - Definitely a nice spot! I guess my pouch is in most all of my Canteen Cup Tuesday videos... that's all I use.

John Sherwood - I looked for your email address on your "about" page... I'd send you a picture of the military description inside the pouch
