Electric cars are usually limited electronically or by battery size.(voltage really) If they wanted to they could make it a 180-200mph car if they wanted to. Also sadly the EU is pretty soon going to limit cars using adaptive speed limits built into cars, such that you won't be able to use the gas pedal above a speed around the speedlimit.
Tesla model s has ungodly acceleration, but it runs out of power very quickly at high speeds. If you want to go around corners Tesla cuts its power and breaks fade after a while. Straight line acceleration is not everything for being "fast". @@PuineaGip
