- Men's 18 - 49 Smoke Dance at the 173rd Tuscarora Picnic & Fields Games, in Lewiston New York, on July 14th 2018.
These seasoned dancers along with the teen boys 12 - 18 group did a bang on job, and were my favorites this year.
These men whooped it up niCe with their war cries and danced to the beats of Jordan Smith on his water drum. They did 4 songs, a slow song, followed by a fast, then a half and half, then they finished with another fast one.
Im a Mohawk from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 😎 ❤ love this dance, the women's too ♥️
Cool. We r from Ontario also. We lived in 6 Nations for a bit, but now in Niagara. Where r u from, Tyendinaga, or Kahnawake, maybe Kanesatake?
@@ShayneMarrelli Iam from Tyendinage!

I like the Tuscarora because even though other people who are occupying their land in what is now the US State of North Carolina. The Tribe's members from the State of New York always comes back to North Carolina to check up on their land!
Yes, I was very thankful to have traveled down with them in 2015. I was very humbled to hold a 300 year old wampum belt in my hand. And learned quite a bit.
In fact, all of the land from Hertford County NC to Johnston County, NC is Tuscarora, real rap, no cap!
Yes, u r correct. I have been to the Tuscarora Homecoming with the Lewiston NY Tuscaroras. We traveled down to Indian Woods Baptist Church NC, amongst other Tuscarora original historical spots. It was a great learning experience!
Love traditional thank yall for the devotion! Beautiful
I am so happy to have blood from the Tuscarora Tribes of North Carolina.
I was a student of the NWSD and learned along side many Tuscarora students. They can sometimes be hard to warm up to, but once you make friends with them, you make friends for life. The Tuscarora truly are awesome. God bless the Tuscarora people.
I live near a tusky Rez, some are good people but If I were to compare them to rezs in surrounding areas I would say a majority of the people from tusky have lost their way. Especially in the passed couple years. None the less they’re great fucking dancers.
Guy in the blue shirt was my pick!
Excellent video! good job!
Thank u kindly. I'm just grateful to be able to bring this beautiful pride, and culture, to good people like yourself. I feel good to know u appreciate it!
Everyone looks like they are doing their own thing and having fun.
Awesome!
Wish I woulda learned how to smoke dance but I decided to go to Wisconsin department of corrections
It's never too late!
My wife plans on Smoke Dancing at 50...
"Although this is just as fierce."
I keep thinking that they could do some damage in mosh pit.
Looks so fun!!!
Really hoping to come for a visit, the Comanche Little Ponies have been invited, I hope it happens, we would sure love to visit.
I'm Cherokee(Nottoway) and Tuscarora from North Carolina. Deer clan and Paint clan from 3rd, 4th, and 5th ggrandparents.
I would love to know more about the "Paint Clan" as I know nothing of this probably great clan, as Google tells me they are a medicine clan?
@@ShayneMarrelli well I'm just finding out about my ancestors and was told my 5th ggrandmother was Ashley Ani Waite who was from the paint clan; she was one of Tah Chee AttaKulla Kulla's wives.
Do you mean Cheroenhaka? Cherokee are a different tribe. Yes, they are Iroquoian-speaking people, but the Cherokee are different than the Cheroenhaka-Nottoway :)
My family name is “Nottaway” I always wondered it it was part of the “Nottaway” tribe. I know later on we identified ourselves as Anishinabe. We live on Anishinabe Tanakewin (Anishinabe Territory). Specifically we are landed in Maigen Ajik in QC side. Basically we live in the bush lol 😂
@@emitabaulenu maybe so 7th great grandma was Cheroenhaka-but is this Nottoway? There is also Cherokee as her grandson married a Cherokee woman(5th great grandma). Cherokee from my father's side on the Crow side and Free-Casiah(Kizziah) was Tuscarora. Still learning thanks!
Your videos are so good and
Annnd, thank you! Haha
Full blood white here. No tribe or clan. Never seen smoke dance before. Cool.
Whaddya mean No tribe or clan?...It's all there bro! Ya just gotta hit the Books & dig & dig & dig! You will find You're Tribal Truth! ...Start with you're last name. Is it Celtic? Germanic? Latin? Slavic? Thats the very first step into Cultural Rediscovery! You can do it bro! Ride the Knowledge Road hard like a Biker on a long highway all the way to Sturgis or Daytona!, & he don't fuckin' Quit!!
ps: Ever heard of the "American Indian Movement"=(AIM)!! ..I'm bringing this to Europe! ..We both want the same exact Deal! Carbon Copy bro! ..Look up: John Trudell & Russell Means. ps: AIM was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota around 1967! (Indigenous Urban Survival!) Then it just spread all over the USA! & Canada!! Main occupations: 1969-Alcatraz! 1972-BIA Office-Washington.DC! 1973-Wounded Knee Occupation!!
Hey, I’m pretty white my guy. I smoke dance/men’s traditional and I’m half Mohawk native. I’ve done it ever since I was real little. I have a lot of ancestry that is both white and non-white. It’s not the color of the skin. Delve deep and find out who you are. You’ll be surprised. And then even if you find a slight bit of native, you’re still native.❤️
@@elijahmastronardi5521 At the present moment, all I'm sure of is that I'm at least 80% British Isles,(Celtic section=Ireland, Wales, Scotland),Heavily mixed with Norse!=Scandinavia. When I do the DNA thing, if I see "Indigenous" from Canada, it is most likely to be MiqMaw or Maliceet even Abenaki??. All 3 had close business dealings with French & Gaelic speakers! Who knows who met Who in those sweet but scary Colonial woods one sunny day long ago! If they really Clicked & they loved each other, So be it! I hope it was that way!
@@elijahmastronardi5521 If I have a decent Indigenous DNA Percentage from North America, At least %30, then I'm connected to the "Cousins" in Central Asia! Brown faces rode into the Heart of Europe! Tough! Fearless! The most effective Cavalry force of the Known World! Camping near Paris itself!! 6th Century AD. (Atilla! Uyghur "Hun's"! Mixed with Black Sea Germanic "Goths"!) ..In the 13th Century, Mongol ruled Turkic speaking Tatars hit Slavic Europe all the way to Poland! A complex & exciting true story bro!th-cam.com/video/R_MHeUAq-5Q/w-d-xo.html
If i was native, I’d do either this, men’s traditional or chicken
Very nice
Blessings!🙏🏽✨

Nice job men! :)

Wow Great 👍👍👍👍
Cool
I wish I could meet some of my tribe "Tuscarora" in Western NC! Any ideas?
Go visit the Rez in NY or Four Oaks down in NC!
@@ShayneMarrelli thanks
@Rusell Shaw Yes, they left NC around 300 years ago, because of the new explorers (Europeans from Bern Switzerland) and the wars that ensued. I am not too sure about the disassociation, but I think it may have something to do with the newer claims of ancestry down there. Whomever was left there had their ancestry changed largely, due to the Natives that remained also got sold as slaves, or raped and murdered. So the bloodlines were totally severed and changed, which r different of those that had left and aligned with the 6 Nations in the North 300 years back. And the ancestral claimants down there don't have enough blood quantum maybe, but I'm just guessing...
The one in NY is in Niagara Falls. I live about 15 minutes from that one
@@donnacramer4422 Probably not the best idea like I’ve said in a previous comment, the tuskys in NY have lost their ways. Very corrupt people in their “legislation”... better off hitting the primary source in NC. The only way you’ll be of interest to them is if you own a smoke shop or make big money.
Nizhoni!! In my language mean beautiful

How do you tell a straight dancer from a grass dancer? I know grass dancers don't have bustles, but do straight dancers ever have bustles?
I don't know much about Straight Dancers, sorry.
grass dance regalia has dozens and dozens of fringes meanwhile straight dance regalia has a more simple look to it. if you google straight dance regalia you see the attire is much more simple and you usually see the man's leggings unlike in grass dance regalia
@@1017Evelin Cool, so I guess it's more traditional looking I take it?
Shayne Marrelli yeah straight dance regalia moreso looks like regular everyday traditional attire worn back in the old days
Are these guys straight dancers? I used to do the Fancy dance with a friend of mine whom is also American Indian. I've never seen the straight dance on the west coast, but when I lived on the east coast, someone from our dance troupe, I think did this smoke dance, I think he was a straight dancer.
These guys are "Smoke Dancers", just like the title states. I don't know much about Straight Dancers, except they are of different Nations from the Southern States. Here I am showcasing these great dancers from the Six Nations Confederacy of Eastern NY and Southern Ontario
The first dance is almost exactly like the Pacific Northwest Native Americans dance called the "Crow hop".

That’s one thing about trump he loves our country and the Indians and the Americans and the black people he is a very good president
Trump is horrible. He hates us native people.

worse people out there who will tell Natives crazy funk! Live with or just move on Mate. Good afternoon.
