What a setup, very jealous! Just a word of advice, you want to avoid tamping with your two portafilter spouts taking the pressure as you press down. La Marzocco actually design the portafilter to have a flat section at the front. You can rest that in the edge of your bench (so your spouts free hang) and when you tamp you’re applying pressure on that metal vice the spouts. Enjoy the new machine!
Actually not, she should place whole portafilter and handle at the table so the portafilter will be horizontal, they are designed that way when you place them on a surface portafilter is horizontal to that surface. At least my ecm work that way. Another thing is that depending on coffee beans she used, there is way too much coffee liquid in the cup, and you have to measure both cup not only one, because they can vary even more than two gramms.
Watch your tamp angles, this one was quite a ways off level, so you'll get uneven extraction. It helps me to run my fingers around the edge of the basket while holding the portafilter so that I can feel for level.
You can improve your tamping with a tamping station or just a tamping mat. Both would help you get the portafilter steady and level while pushing. Also, get a WDT tool instead of that distributor. 18gr should give you aprox 36-40 ml in 28-30s But taste is most important. Learn to taste and tune. Great job and keep it up!
@@edwinlee5193 I also dose straight from hopper, i just keep 1-2 days worth of beans in there and no more. Freshness isn't an issue as long as i don't leave it for longer. If i know i won't use everything in the hopper, i put it back in a vacuum sealed bag for use later. Single dosing is too much of a pain in the arse!
