Hi Andy love your videos I originally come from St Neots now i live in Godmanchester but love watching and seeing how things have changed I like your then and now videos would like to see a then and now video of priory Park, longsands and would like to see what the train station used to look like
Thanks for the video, the content is somewhat depressing with the shop closures. Unfortunately this is topical of high streets up and down the country. Lived in St Neots for over 40 years, left in 2015. Was a great place to live.
Good video Sad to see the High street with so many empty shops. Especially when I compare it to when I was growing up. Seems to be the same in most towns tho sadly
Charlie’s (the club where The Falcon is) didn’t close until around 2004/5 (I’m sure it was 2005). I was going out clubbing there in 2002 /3! It then changed hands in 2003, they tried to make a go of it but what killed all of the clubs was residential areas being built up in close proximity, they all won the right to this noise pollution issue or something along those lines, so clubs had to close at 11pm or midnight, whereas previously they’d go on until 1-2am, which is what people wanted when on a night out! It was so sad. My friend & I used to be the only ones that would turn up, we had the entire place to ourselves most of the time & we didn’t care lol we got to know the bouncers & all the staff, had a lovely time. I know when I worked for a pub back in 2006, my boss looked up the price of The Falcon & it was going for over £1M then - yikes!! It would make a smashing pub now but no one will buy it at that pride. There’s been a lot of talk of turning it into flats but it just seems a shame to do that 😔 we haven’t got the infrastructure for more homes. I thought the entrance to the mall was further up & boarded up! Perhaps I’m thinking of the back route to it! How interesting, I didn’t realise the priory (as I still call it!) was the original entrance. I just think it’s an awful, awful shame the way this town has gone. My parents have lived here since the 70’s, I’m 37, i remember going with mum to town to do her weekly shop - gateway (turned Somerfield! I remember my brothers getting their first jobs there), Lawsons (still remember the lovely smell lol), Butchers, Fishers, thriving Market, everything you needed in one town. You could never, ever do that now. People moan that they close because shops don’t get used.. that’s because they keep bringing in shops that don’t need to be used daily, boujee fashion shops or gift shops! We need ‘proper’ shops that people would want to get their weekly shop at, to pop in to etc. And we do not need anymore gosh darn coffee shops!! I feel like we’ve lost the community spirit too, no carnival anymore, no outdoor pool etc. We’ve also got Wintringham being built but no infrastructure to support them. If it wasn’t for my Dad, I’m not sure I’d stay anymore, & that makes me so sad as I never thought I’d move out of our town. Thanks for the video Andrew x
You didn’t mention the cross keys pub Andy? I moved to duck lane in 1982 as a single expectant mum and remember it well. A lot has changed as you say. Also I remember the hot spot bakery in eynesbury. I left in 1991 but have fond memories of st. Neots as thats where I lived when my children were born. I have fond memories of Woolworths and was it Beales? Oh and the coop! And there was an audio/music retailers on the end of the market square going towards the river where the taxi office is/was. The golden globe on the corner of the market square always used to be a pub to avoid! I used to spend a lot of time at the riverside park picnicking with my children and the parking was free, not that I needed to park of course living in the town. My children attended school in wintringham road and I attended the college at almond road when my youngest started school 1989 and a few months later got a secretarial job at Leeds Day solicitors in the town. St. Neots will always hold a special place in my heart and I left there in 1991! 😅
Hi Andy. The ferret was a sight to see; the last time I checked, Huntingdon still had its banks. Though I agree that going cashless is maybe behind it. Kind regards.
Brittains - I'm amazed they stayed open as long as they did. Stuff in there was 20+ years old and massively overpriced. £100 for an umbrella stand, £3000 for a twin sofa etc. Staff were also disinterested in anyone under 50 and there was no customer lift to the floors above for soft furnishings.

When I lived there, they auctioned off a former British Army tank! No kidding, a literal TANK!
Ha ha
Once there is no more cash , banks can charge us what they like to spend our money via, debit, credit cards etc.
I think you are right there, the banks will charge us to use our money, it’s bad enough already. Thanks for watching
