    Thank you for the great idea and the instructions. I made them with my French speaking women's group. We create an ornament as a group project every holiday season. It was a huge hit. I was able to use some vintage wooden spools my mom saved from 50's-60's.

    I'm afraid we all want to be perfect in our crafting - the truth is we learn from trial and error and most times are better for it. The ability to laugh at yourself doing boneheaded things as always a good thing. Always remember, we are all human and we all make mistakes! I love your tutorials and your ability to chuckle when you do an oopsie is refreshing! Merry Christmas and may 2017 be your best year yet. God bless you and yours! Barb from Greenwood, IN.

    Another great video. When I saw the music spool. It made me think of music boxes with copper spools with Braille paper on it. Yes, I know it's not called that. With the peddlers hitting them to make music. I remember as a little girl I love open the music box winding it up and watching the cylinder turn and hit each pedal to make notes out of it it was from Germany it was a little glass one beautiful. As I watched it, it would calm me from days events. Just thought can make a re- make of it using a Shadow box cylinder turning on the pedals. Thank you for sharing.

    Oh my, before finding this video I made two wooden spool necklaces, such a difficult project because the hole is too big for the wire I put through. Now, thanks to you I can make it easier placing a bead that fits snug on the hole. Thank you!!!!

    This just showed up in suggested videos a few minutes ago. Very fun idea; I just started trying to make fabric beads and paper beads, and thinking of putting together some Christmas ornaments to try to sell next week. What a neat idea this is! I have a bunch of spools I've emptied lately - not wooden, sadly - and I might just try my hand at this using them. If they don't work I can always just keep them and use them in my own perfectly imperfect Christmas decorations. LOL

    I have a load of antique wooden spools. Now I know what to do with them. Thanks for sharing this awesome idea. My tree every year has more and more of homemade ornaments. No store bought on my tree. I've had my children do them with me every year. Then they get 4 of each we've made.

    Hello, thank you for such a wonderful tutorial on making these spool ornaments! They are gorgeous! I have a question about the the 3" silver plated head pins. Can you please tell me what gauge they are? I clicked on the link for Etsy that you listed on your blog, but that shop is no longer open. Thank you!

  • @dorisharris4466
    @dorisharris4466 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I no longer use glitter. My husband is a professional clown and has been to clown camp twice. Soon after he started clowning he learned that glitter is really tiny pieces of glass. This can cut the eyes if some were to get in them. You see cheerleaders that use it all the time. I hope it is the powdered kind. They make powder glitter now because of the hazard issue.I have used glitter for years teaching children not knowing what could happen. I carve butterflies and I use metallic paint to do the detailed work. I was surprised that metallic paint is not expensive at our local art and craft store. I think if you try it you will love it and not spend weeks and weeks getting all of the glitter out of your house. That's what happened to me a couple years ago when I got a Christmas card that had glitter on it. Another hint that face painters may not know is acrylic paint is very dangerous to the eyes also. Have fun making your ornaments and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Sorry for the long post.

    • @HappyBirdsGlitterNest
      @HappyBirdsGlitterNest  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Doris, Yes, some glitter is made of glass. Recollections carries a line of German glass glitter, however, there are glitters out there made from foil and and also plastic. The problem is, you would probably have to call the company to find out exactly what their glitter is made from. Face painters should only use glitter that is specified for cosmetic use because there is a huge difference between craft glitter and cosmetic glitter. However, I still think I would be leery of putting paint or glitter anywhere near my eyes. Merry Christmas to you too! :o) Don't ever apologize for your posts because you are more than welcome! :o)

    One more post and I'll let everybody rest. Lynn Me I had a 18- 19- years old boy that wanted me to make him one for Christmas. I didn't want it to be girly so I made his with a pine cone dangle. I'm going to paint a cardinal on the cream colored thread that is on the spool. If you don't paint cut one out of a book or card and glue it on. After you do that add things that you would pick up in the woods or outside sticks, pretty bark, branches covered with moss, small rocks....... You can also buy fake snow. I take things I want to put on my base for carvings and it looks like real habitat. After choosing the items for the habitat I take it to my shop to let it dry. I can make sure the item will continue to look good years after my carvings are completed. I hope this helped in some way.

      Lynn Me Hi Lynn, Thanks for watching! If you want to make them more "country," you can distress the spools and use papers with a rustic/country theme. You may also want to use vintage looking headpins and bead caps in copper or bronze. Hope this helps a little! :o)

      Lynn Me there are deer and duck beads sold on Ebay.. that if hanging below the spool would add even more rustic cabin feel to the ornaments... I found just a couple for an example of what I am referring to.. place this into Ebay description..
      "Christmas deer alloy pendant", 3D Duck or Goose charms", or even "The owl retro style alloy charms"... I love your idea as I live near Yellowstone!
