    Hi Folks! I've let this video run long so you can see all the different parts of the process for making a snow baby. It's broken up in to chapters so you can skip ahead to the part you want to see. ♥

    Is it a special type of cotton wool? And what is it you brush on? Fascinating skill . 😊

      It's medical cotton and cornstarch. Here's the supply list: www.smilemercantile.com/blogs/tutorials/snow-baby-project-demo-making-a-spun-cotton-doll-from-scratch

    Is medical cotton (the long strips) the same type hairdressers use when you get a perm?

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is cotton coil, and it would work just as well for this project. Here is the medical cotton roll I used: amzn.to/3NHXz1M

      Only slightly, and not at all once the glitter is added. Best to pose earlier on.

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To make the mold I used a German composition doll. The features of the face aren't too deep, so it's easy to paint! ❤️

    Has the cornflour & water been heated and mixed together to make the binding medium, please. Also, what is the ratio?

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is 1 tablespoon cornstarch added gradually to 1 cup of simmering water, and cooked for 2 minutes. ❤️

      I did that but mine still came out lumpy as it cooled it got stiffer, I added more warm water to it but it was still clumpy, any idea as to what I am doing wrong please?@@SmileMercantile

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Make a slurry of the cornstarch first- one tbsp starch to one tbsp water, and then add it to the simmering pot just a little at a time, stirring and cooking after each little bit. It will be smooth.

    6/10/22- question? can i stop mid way through making (working with the cotton) put down and return to finish the next day?????? thanks for answer.

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You can always add cotton, and letting layers dry periodically actually makes a sturdier figurine. You would just brush with starch to moisten it after it has dried, to add the next pieces. :)

    hi! if i wanted it to be colored, is spun cotton easy to dye?

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're working with cotton quilt batting it's very easy to dye with Rit. Cotton coil and medical cotton are easier to add color with paint after making the figures.

      @@SmileMercantile thank you! what kind of paint works best- just acrylic?

    • @SmileMercantile
      @SmileMercantile  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to use acrylics diluted with starch, but just about any paint will work. I have a whole section on adding color in my book! :)
