Congratulations!! I just came from your training video, so this video is even more impressive!! Fueling yourself on gas station Mexican was a brave choice! 😂 I loved your family's involvement, and the medal at the end, how special!
Yes, everything about it went pretty well. There was a lot of pain and suffering in the latter miles, but the weather was good, I didn't get too sleepy, and my stomach did well. So for my first 100 miler, I'd say that was the most I could hope for. And my crew was the best!!
Well to be fair, I did have somebody pacing me the last 50 miles, so that was a big help. But it still was by far the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm not sure I will ever do another 100. I would like to do the JFK 50 miler a few more times. Thanks for the comment!
Subscribed! When I did my 56 mile solo run, I stopped at a gas station and picked up some pizza and a Red Bull at mile 43. "Mile 43 Pizza", as I call it, is some of the best pizza in the world! Lol
Congratulations 🎊🍾🎈🎉 I have three boys that will see me running my first ultra very soon. I can only hope to make them as proud as you did your boys at the end of that run.
Yes, I couldn't have done it without the help of my family and crew. It was still the most difficult thing I ever accomplished, but worth it in the end. Thanks for watching!
Love the decision to start with the end! Running that far must be brutal - I have run ultra distance 4 times now but not even broken 50 miles (yet!) Glad to find the channel and have subbed - what adventure do you have next? I've just done a vlog series on a jungle ultra (please check it out if you would like!) and next is some faster running
I don't have much on the schedule at the moment. I really enjoyed the Hyner 50k this spring, so I'm signed up to do it again next year. Next time, I'm going to leave the video camera at home and try to get a better time. In the meantime, just getting miles in and hitting some 5ks over the summer. I'll check out your channel. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the subscribe! 100 miles was the hardest thing I've ever done. Everything went as well as could be expected, but I don't see myself doing it again anytime soon. 50k or 50 miles is quite enough for me.
Nice work - both running and the video. I am planning on running the length of the C&O in a few weeks. How far of the trail is the Exxon in Big Poole? Thanks 😀
Good question. It actually is only about a quarter mile from the trail as the crow flies. However it is pretty much impossible to go directly from the trail to the station. There is one possible route, but it involves walking along a railroad and either crossing a railroad bridge or wading through a muddy canal. I'm pretty sure that would involve some trespassing. Therefore, the only practical route means that you'll need to leave the trail and run the road for two to three miles. I can explain in more detail if you tell me which direction you are coming from, the east or the west.
Yeah, to hit that station, you'd have to leave the trail on Ernstville road about 9/10 of a mile before Big Pool, and then either back track to get back on the trail, or continue two more miles on the road to rejoin at Ft Frederick state park. The total distance doesn't change very much, but you miss a chunk of the trail. Good luck with the adventure - that will be impressive! Edit: If my recollection is correct, it adds something like 1/2 or 3/4 of mile to the total distance if you leave the trail at Ernstville and rejoin at Ft Frederick.
@@GreatCoveRunningTV hey thanks for the info and encouragement . It’s going to be a self supported FKT attempt so I can’t miss any of the official trail to count and significant detours need to be at a minimum. I know there’s one at paw paw tunnel and another further down the line that’ll add some miles 🤪 it’ll be interesting if nothing else. I have plans to sleep some at tow house 49 1st night and tow house 25 the second. I have less that 65 hours to complete it.

Great work, DIY 100 Mile is amazing and takes so much grit! Best of luck training for the next adventure!
Thanks!
freaking kids laughing at you , precious !
Yeah.. nobody seem to sympathize with my self-inflected pain!
@@GreatCoveRunningTV I do if it's any consolation ?
Congratulations!!! Very impressive! I ran a solo unsupported 50 mile on my 50th birthday - I can't imagine doing 100 miles alone!

Thanks! I don't think I've ever tried pizza during an ultra run, but it sounds good!
Incredible job!
Thank you!

Good luck with your first ultra! There's nothing like the finish line feeling, especially when the family is there to enjoy it with you!
Great to have the support you had. Very difficult when on your own for sure. Congratulations. Well earned

@@GreatCoveRunningTV good luck with the 5k - they are always brutally short and intense!
That is so impressive, 100 miles is crazy, and to do it on your own too!!! 💪💪

Nice place to run. Congrats on the finish

Very inspiring bro!
Thanks!
Dude. Wow. This is awesome! Congratulations!
Thanks! It was quite a journey!
In 1985 Dr Leo Pollard became the first person to run England's Leeds/ Liverpool canal towpath ( 118 miles). It is a record that stands today.
Nice to know that there were a few crazy people back then as well!
@@GreatCoveRunningTV At 21 I had the privilege of helping him to train, and ran the 1st 45miles with him.Several others also accompanied him in relays.

2-3 miles one way off the trail won’t work. Thanks for the info though 👍

Are you running this one again this year?
I'm not planning on doing anymore 100 mile races. I'm glad I did it once, but 50 mi and less suits me a little better now.
I live in Maryland, if you are interested in doing some training runs, let me know.
