I was in Jogja in February and fell in love with it so much! So few tourists around and such a cool vibe to the city. Borobudur was amazing too obviously!

Honestly the most amazing city I've ever been to. Tradition, ancient temples, shopping, food, the chilled vibe, traditional arts and crafts...I could go on. I've been there the last 6 years in a row on our trips to the mountains, and it blows me away every time!

If you are still in Jogjakarta, I would suggest to visit museum Ulen Sentalu with guided tour in English. It is a really unique museum with history on the Sultanese and Kingdoms in Jogja with vast collections as well as Dutch colonial-style restaurant and gardens.
Enjoy your trip there and dont forget to taste Jogja speciality food - Gudeg!

+JASON BILLAM TRAVEL a little correction. on minute of 01:30 you did say about two sultans who still reigning in indonesia. the fact is: there are actually 4 sultans/kings who still reigning in indonesia, two in yogyakarta and two in surakarta/solo. the two in solo only for traditionally purpose but the two in yogyakarta not only for traditioanlly purpose but also politically. the two sultans/kings in yogyakarta are governor and vice governor for life! and those titles are only hold by the sultans, without election. i'm a yogyakarta resident, and i thank you for visiting my home town and surrounding. i hope your videos about my home town and my country can reach wide and attract more people to visit. bless you!

Looks like you missed out on seeing the Underground Mosque. It's also located in the Taman Sari complex. I thought it was pretty cool! We were there late last year and have just finished sharing all our videos from Yogyakarta.
Our favourite spot was Candi Sewu, inside the Prambanan Complex. Really amazing temple with surprisingly not many people around.

Hi Jason - really enjoyed this video - love places that retain their culture and character. Maybe add foreign exchange data when you quote local prices (which you normally do); plus a screenshot of a SE Asia map, so we know exactly where you are and how to get to and from the location from other places. Apologies if you've already provided this data. Cheers!

You actually should have accompanied by a tour guide.. There are so many teenage tour guides in Jogja who still in college but so friendly and nice and also not expensive.. They will pick you up at the airport, find a hotel for you, provide your transportation and know all the terms in any places, will be so much easier.. They know so many cool hangout places and always up to date with the conditions and informations.. That should be so much better I think..

Welcome to my birth city! It's the land of ancient and powerful empires dating back to more than 1000 years. I believe you had a lot of fun there. I like the temples in Jogjakarta are still in a good condition surviving mother nature's wrath. Hope you can handle the sweet flavor profile of the food there (klepon, gudheg, wajik, dodol, cendhol, etc.). Don't underestimate our (Javanese) sweet tooth hahahahahahaha. Don't forget to visit Borobudur and Prambanan Temple and keep updating!
