    THIS is a British engine, despite what people say. Ford bought Jag-you-AR and Land Rover while developing the "Novi" engine, which was a new OHC engine of 4.6 liters and 5.4 liters, and later variants were DOHC 32 valve.
    BUT...Ford engineers walked in the door of Jaguar engineering and were startled to find a new 5.0 liter 32 valve V8 not just in prototype stages....But ready to be produced! They initially were going to cancel the AJ engine, but upon examination they realized that this engine was superior to their own version, so they kept it and used it. And of course, automotive engineering needs to evolve so while the early engine was all British, the later engines were largely British, but with some common Ford bits tossed in. So when you see "Fomoco" on a part, it means that it was produced under the Ford umbrella, but it is not necessarily a Ford part. The AJ V8 engine is a British design that Ford produced, just like the Ford Essex V6.

      Thank you!! You are exactly correct, I don’t know why people want to believe this was some variant of a Crown Victoria engine. It’s total British engineering and excellent engineering at that, my ‘04 XJR has 268k mileage.

    I learned this lesson from the Cadillac 4.1 8cylinder engines of the late 80's. I think they were aluminum with sleeves (the block). People would try to fix the engines and they would just fail. The problem was that the aluminum engines would warp and become absolutely non usable.

    I really like your channel. I think You probably know all this already but others might not(?). You probably should use some silicon(?) spray/grease on (at least on new) O-rings and manually put (in this case the injectors) back in to seat them (you should hear a "click" when done) before bolting them down (maybe you didn't show that part?). I watched "Carwizard's" "garage tips" videos and I also saw if you give the electrical connectors some "lubricating contact spray?" (if too "dry") and then put them back in, he showed there is/was a locking mechanism (?) that you lock them to the injectors with. I didn't know that, and I guess you have to unlock the connector on the cable before removing it (they are maybe unlocked when pulling on the cable(?) to remove it?) . Probably the same for other electrical connectors under the hood. Using Direct Injection injectors in engines seems to be a bit troublesome (because they get dirty) and in some cases "they" also put in a tunnel port injector before it (mounted in the intake "plenum") to try to keep the DI injectors "cleaner". Injectors seems quite "finnicky". I watch the "m539 restorations" (BMWs) channel too and he couldn't use the old injectors (they were not DI injectors) he had sent out to a company for tests and they were supposedly all OK. But he instead had to buy all new ones (you at least certainly don't want leaky injectors that stays open). It seems you found out how to use the tool you borrowed to fix the injector "gasket thing" (I don't remeber what you called it).
    Keep up the good work!

    • @IanHobday
      @IanHobday 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ford owned Jag and Land Rover but sold them to Tata after the GFC. Ford owned Volvo too and sold them to Geely who also owns Lotus.
      All of these brands are doing better than they ever have now that they're under ownership who is actually willing and able to invest the necessary funds to allow them to flourish.

    • @1chish
      @1chish 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a later version of Land Rovers were just "expensive re-badged BMWs"? I dread to think what you would say about BMW owned Rolls Royce or VW owned Bentley ...

    • @katywalker8322
      @katywalker8322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends which models. For example the X Type was based on the Mondeo platform. But most of the X Types were 4wd, and there wasn’t a 4wd variant of that Mondeo sold. Something like 80% of the parts on the X Type were unique to Jaguar. Even the v6 engine was quite substantially amended.

    • @1chish
      @1chish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@katywalker8322 Well pointed out. Many Americans probably think that these engines will have came from the USA or forget that Ford built those engines in Bridgend and Dagenham UK specifically for Jaguar and then for Land Rover after they bought LR off of BMW in 2000.
      JLR now build all their own engines.
      Some believe the Ford designed Jaguar and Land Rover engines were some of the best series in those cars. Certainly the LRs with Ford engines were better than those with the earlier BMW engines.

    • @IanHobday
      @IanHobday 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1chish BMW doesn't own Land Rover, Tata Motors of India does. That's also who owns Jag these days.
      Tata (Jag, Land Rover) and Geely (Volvo, Lotus) have mostly pumped in money and made sure there are good people running things.
      BMW and VW on the other hand have turned RR and Bentley into sub-brands that no longer have unique platforms or engines. The cars themselves are technologically & technically better than the pre-takeover products but it's still somehow a disappointment. The amount & speed of the used vehicle depreciation of these two brands speaks volumes.

    Jaguar stopped being Jaguar when it was bought by Ford. Gone were the iconic inline6 XK engines, in came the V8's included all the cam chain/guides problems. LOL.
    Ford wanted Jaguar to compete with the BMW 3Series and M-B C-class so they made the el-cheapo X-type based on the Ford Mondeo platform/running gear. Ford even stuck a V6 turbo Diesel engine in the XJ. Bought from PSA.(Peugeot) very UN-Jaguar-like.

    All the bits and pieces may well be Ford, but it is most definitely a Shaguar baby.
