Idk how this is a shock to anyone. Early in the season they were making plays because of Fields athleticism. Then Russ came in and was very mediocre with some timely deep shots mixed in for his first 3-4 starts. Let’s say hypothetically the Steelers played the chargers, falcons, broncos right now with Russ. Do you think they still win those games?
The Steelers are living in Mike Tomlin’s world. Keith Butler, Randy Fichtner, Teryl Austin, Matt Canada, etc. How many of these guys would be coordinators in the league if not employed by MT?
The Steelers have had 2 coordinators in Tomlin’s entire tenure that were top 10 (LeBeau & Haley). Both of which weren’t Tomlin guys.

@@ivmurk21 you bring up some valid points. With fields, it felt like they really had to gut out those games to get to 4-2 by relying on turnovers (or “splash”) and off schedule plays by fields. Then when Russ got in there things stabilized some, however it felt like they really had to bust their butts to beat the likes of the Jets, Giants, Bangles and they caught breaks against the Commanders and the Ravens in first meeting with Tucker’s 2 missed FGs. I mean those were hard fought victories still…..but damn your right they were never really all that good to start. It just took them seeing top flight teams for them to get exposed. Sucks 😩

@@thunderchubbs7640 1) AFC Central can't be compared to the AFC North. It just can't. The Ravens alone are a team that has won 2 SBs during the time they've been in the North.
      2) Neither coach could beat the Patriots in the playoffs. Cowher had 3 losses, Tomlin only 1. Both coaches had 3 bad playoff losses (where they were the favored team and "laid an egg").
      3) Your comment about QBs is correct, however, the game was much different in the 90s. You could make SBs with Neil O'Donnell or Stan Humphries or win one with Mark Rypien as your SB. The RB position was much more highly sought after then it is now. Etc etc etc
      4) In the end, both coaches had quite frankly great tenures (Tomlin is still ongoing obviously) that 99% of franchises would dream of. By all available metrics other than "vibes", they're incredibly similar.

This is the problem they want to be a run first team but they don't have the OL or running backs to do it, they can't get 1 yard. They continue to run the ball on every first downs in a wall, just wasting time going no where. I wish they come out throwing the ball to run it on first downs. First downs is killing this team and their inability to pick up yardage. No creative on offense and they don't throw the ball in the middle. The defense played well enough for this team to win and the offense is just stuck in mud. I don't think the steelers have great play makers on offense but I think the play calling could be better. I wish they would come out and just throw the ball down the field, throw it to Mike Williams or George when his head is right granted I don't think their OL is good on pass blocking but they need to throw the ball more on opening drives.

Rooney’s prefer the comfort of 8-10 seasons and being “relevant” more than the idea of cleaning house, and possibly sucking for one season. The best teams in this league are ones who have made big changes in terms of coaching staff and are also teams who sucked for a season or two to ultimately to and draft that franchise-level QB.

I disagree about there being no other options than Wilson. Think of how many times he escapes the pocket by looping out and running to a sideline - but then chucks it out of bounds because he knows he ain't gonna get away from the USUALLY 1 guy that's chasing him. There is another QB on the team that would have turned many of those into positive gains. Wonder who that could be ??

I think this offense is worse than when we had Canada. There is no rhythm. There is no - there’s no sense in their play calling. They don’t target their best players, and when they finally do, it’s too little too late. I am beyond frustrated. Add on the weird and awful coaching decisions by Tomlin and here we are.
