This Clip: The city Kerkrade is home to the statue “D’r Joep”: the Dutch national monument for all mine workers. These mine workers are called “Koempels” (buddy). Many parents and grandparents of families in south-Limburg worked in the mines. My own (great)grandfathers also worked in the mines for years. We played this beautiful music in honor of these (and all other) mine workers.
About Guido Dieteren (The Maestro): Guido Dieteren (1974) is an orchestra leader, violin soloist, arranger, and composer. He grew up in a special musical Limburg family, in The Netherlands. Guido’s great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were all conductors and with that his great musical examples. At an early age, Guido established his name as a concertmaster and soloist of various orchestras (including André Rieu) and then continued his career as a conductor, violinist, and soloist with his own orchestra. Since then, he has played successful concert tours throughout Europe, China, and North America.
During his conservatory study in Maastricht, Guido approached his childhood friend and pop keyboard player Falco Borsboom to compose, arrange and work on a new rousing orchestral production. Guido’s Orchestra was born (now known as “The Maestro & The European Pop Orchestra”)!
Since then, “The Maestro & The European Pop Orchestra” has experienced many musical highlights. Together with his orchestra, Maestro Guido has provided concerts all over the world, composed and arranged music for commercials such as McDonald's, Rabobank, WWF, Dela, and AllSecur, played in several international TV shows, released several gold CDs and DVDs, produced large TV specials in all known world languages and performed live for more than 2.7 million visitors. Guido also collaborated as musical director and was involved artistically with many (inter)national artists such as Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Ross, VoXXclub, DJ AfroJack, Simply Red, Caro Emerald, Alessandro Safina, Marco Borsato, Og3ne, Doe Maar, Anouk, Jan Smit, Nick and Simon, Paul de Leeuw and many others.
Guido’s heart is not only taken by “The Maestro & The European Pop Orchestra” and his passion for music. No, he also married the orchestra’s solo soprano, Wendy Kokkelkoren, in 2006. After their first concert together, the spark caught on and since then, they have been inseparable. Together with their daughters Emma-Sophie and Annabel, Guido and Wendy form a happy musical family. Both daughters love to be on stage and perform together with their parents.

Literally, this is a cantonese chinese song or a chinese cantonese song that the original tune was sung with cantonese lyrics. Amazingly, this western orchestra plays the tune and melody so well. And they brings out the taste and flavor of it.

Music transcends all cultures. The title, 彩雲追月, Colored Clouds Chasing The Moon, means "flight of immortals riding on clouds to the Moon Palace" is a Cantonese melody from the Ching Dynasty era about the simple but happy rural life of a village. The melody fits so well to Dutch rustic life as well.

Your beautiful rendition of this classic piece of Cantonese music reminds me of my childhood in rural Guangdong (Canton), China in the 1960s and 1970s. After the autumn harvest, the weather was getting cooler and the bright moon hanging high at night. The villagers gathered near the large pond in front of the village, enjoying the cool breeze blowing from the rice fields afar. The grown-ups chatted among themselves, the youth enjoyed listening to stories, and the children ran around and played hide-and-seek. So joyful, peaceful! Thank You!

This music always reminds my mother. She was born in Shanghai in a Cantonese family, so when I was little, I was surrounded by Cantoneses and Cantonese music, Colorful Clouds CHasing The Moon was one of her favorite musics. She loved music and started to learn piano when she was 70.... I played this music in her funeral.

Never could have imagined that such a traditional, extremely well-known Chinese folk song can be so beautiful and touching, using a western musical instrument and performed by a western musician. This is easily the best version of the song. The violin seems to be the perfect match with this song, even better than the Chinese 2-string fiddle in my opinion. Guido’s performance is outstanding to say the least, and the song becomes “the sound from heaven 天籟之音” under his skillful performance.

Très beau et très émouvant. Mon grand père aussi a commencé sa vie en travaillant à la mine il y a un peu plus de 100 ans.... on n'imagine pas à quel point le quotidien de nos anciens a été aussi pénible. Respect pour eux !

Mr Joseph Koo is one of the Best song writers in HK, he wrote many Theme songs for HK TVB drama series. No. 15 is story about professional gamblers, No. 14 is from a well known KungFu novel. I am not sure about copyright stuff, just wish Maestro could play these, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
