A very useful video. I haven’t used my SX-70 and SX-70 Sonars for about 2 years so I was pleased to know that there is a new generation of film out there. I’ll remove my frog tongue from one of my SX-70s that I fitted out.

Getting better, but still flawed, and experimental, at best. I truly do miss what Dr. Land was able to create over half a century ago. The man was brilliant. And the struggles they have today to create decent materials is a testament to his supreme genius.

I’ll agree with experimental but not flawed as you can’t compare it to old SX70 or 600 film as it is a different beast. I was a HUGE Polaroid shooter and part of the collections for a very long time - glad to see this material getting better and better. It will never be the same
As the older material as the physical properties are different but if you had asked me in 2010 or 2012 if I thought a new instant material was possible I would have said not a chance. After all the destruction of our industry the past decade I have decided to look at genuine material in a fresh light and not compare to what was as that is the past and it’s not coming back. There is a lot of crap and rebranded material still out there but Polaroid is making film now that is beyond good enough for my work process and that is a statement I was not sure I would ever be able to make.

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Maybe I will try a pack. My local Target only ever has 600 in stock. But to avoid shipping charges, maybe I will beg them to stock it. I just picked up an ITT Magicflash that will work on both my Sonar and Alpha 1. Would love to give it a go. Love not having to use the frog tongue or any other strange development voodoo.

Still requires more love and attention than older
Polaroid but again considering where we were it’s amazing in 2023 to have this possibility again. Happy shooting!

Loved it! The modded SX-70 seems to worked best with the 600 film. Maybe the SX-70 camera could have been set -1 with the color film. The B&W looks fantastic too

Still waiting on Polaroid's new formula that's supposed to blow any of their past iterations out of the water. Supposedly it'll be their closest formula to the old stuff which is exciting. I do miss the days of Florian Kapps impossible project where they would update the community more frequently vs the current CEO Oskar who seems to keep Polaroid in the dark

Our medium would be better served if all the manufacturers kept more open channels of communication on supplies -
Silence definitely breeds in many cases false rumors which is bad for business and bad for us.

Let's hope the SX-70 has those nice aqua blues the original had.

awesome insight..thank you for this..question you mentioned the ND filter wether it be "chemical..etc"..as far as your testing did you put an actual Sx-70 ND filter that you can purchase separately ..inside the 600 Film?..like some people have recommended before?..thank you

I actually have several of these cameras and a few have been modified for 600 film so I could run several cameras at once

Thanks for sharing your test results! Totally agree wirh the film being great these days.
I've done the same experiment myself and got different results than you. And I think is very likely because your 600 color film seems to be a bit older than the sx-70 color you are using. Is that correct? Each batch (1 batch = same expiration date) has their own characteristics since Polaroid is still improving their film day by day. Additionally how old and how it was stored does impact colors too, as you certainly know already.

the 600 was made in Nov 22 and the SX70 in January 2023 so very close-- as each batch is really improving and being tweaked I don’t doubt that that is the bigger reason for the difference…

But it’s exactly the same film, the SX70 film is 600 film with an ND layer. I feel most people misunderstand that.

No need to mod the sx70. Just adjust the dial to full dark. With 600 film.

good to hear re the frog tongue. i find them annoying as they frequently cause jamming issue imo.

I got tired of the cost and look of the new Polaroid films. Instax is sooooo much better. Fujifilm does make you want to pull your hair out when they discontinue their films, but forced to chose between the new Polaroid or Instax it’s Fuji all the way.

    • @FIGITALREVOLUTION
      @FIGITALREVOLUTION  ปีที่แล้ว +2

From a performance stand point Instax is very solid BUT it is boring in my opinion. I have used it a lot some years back when Polaroid was in Version 2 and still very hit or miss- but now it’s a different story. Instax is clean and just works but again not to my liking for making my work-

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION I started shooting instant photos a decade ago. I started with Instax Wide and found it boring like you said. When I tried Impossible Project, I love the look and the challenge of shooting their film. I ignore what the naysayers say about the Polaroid's film being finicky as long I'm enjoying shooting their film. I pretty much shoot with the Polaroid Now+ (gen. 1) because the SX-70 Sonar has got some chipping and the Mint Flashbar 2 also getting wear and tear. I miss using the SX-70 film.

@@LennyWu interesting is that sx70 and 600 are basically the same film with just a different speed- very different from the original stock- shooting the 600 right now on Venice Beach LA- amazingly good
