  • In the Pacific northwest, steelhead fishing is one of our passions. Whether winter or summer there is an opportunity to catch these great sea going trout. With this pursuit of the prolific fish of one thousand casts, anglers learn to develop and add new tips and techniques to their arsenal. In today's video, we cover just that. We are talking blades (or spinners) under a float for steelhead. By no means did I think of this method, heck it didn't even originate in the states. We look north to our Canadian friends for this technique and I am sure glad I came across it myself. Watch as we break down this technique and show how you too can learn.

    When they hit blades it is a very hard hit so hang on to your rod or you may lose it, from Vancouver island 👍

    Very well presented. Just beginning my investigation of steelhead fishing and how its done. Reminds me a lot of troutfishing in upstate NY but with a nicer view.

    Rick, you continue to amaze me with making it S I M P L E!!!! I wish you had a drone over your float so we can see across the water, when a Steelhead picks it up. That's NEXT I'm guessing. Tight Lines My Friend.

    I use a spinning reel and have been doing this for about 5 years now. The anti reverse lever on a spinning reel helps let line out with slight tension etc. I've caught so many trout in small streams this way. Joe's flies has the best micro spinners they get good action just dead sticking

    • @HolyMolyOutdoors
      @HolyMolyOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely something I’ll have to try on trout! Thank you for watching

    Great video man! I prefer to see you out on the water! I can see how this technique can be deadly if the hardware bite is on. I also do a little pinning myself. I'm going to pick up a couple of these blades and give them a try.

  • @Enrichie

    Looks fun. Excited to test it out.
    I’m new to drift fishing. Using a bait caster, is it normal to have natural tension when it’s free spooling during the drift? And should the spool tensioner be set to very loose? When I let it spool, it seems to not be giving out line fast enough with the current. Any feedback is appreciated!

    • @adamkaralus5468
      @adamkaralus5468 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually loosen mine to almost freespool, if you’re good with a baitcaster and can control that (you usually aren’t making 50 yard casts so it’s not too bad to control)

    Bro any suggestions for deeper water like a Niagara River with this technique. Good fishing is usually from 15 to 20 f. here.Ty

    • @HolyMolyOutdoors
      @HolyMolyOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! what I would do in that case is probably run a 2ft leader from the blade to a barrel swivel/inline float weight probably 3/4oz at that depth. Using a slip float your should be able to reach that zone but if that deep of water does not have enough flow to keep the blade spinning so would take off the float and just cast the rig and retrieve.

    • @BM-mg6ku
      @BM-mg6ku 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HolyMolyOutdoors Thanks, the water current in Niagara River is always strong I think perfect for spinner.
      Do you only suggest this spinner like presentation or maybe other kind.
      And one more question, I have a float almost like yours 25gr .If the float is 25 gr do I have to add the same weight for the sinker.

      Great question. I don’t use any bait with these spinners. However I do/can run scent. Just a small amount will last a while and can help. Mainly though I run these just by themselves naked
