Some parents don't really understand how little time they have to be a fundamental part of their children's lives. In some cases, it is out of their control, because if they do not work from sun to sun, they won't have enough to provide for their families. But in other cases is just a matter of having the priorities all wrong: You can delay that promotion for 3 years, but you cannot delay your children's first three years. Once the children have grown up without you, you cannot then come back later in live and try to be a part of it. That space has been filled by someone or something else. They may carve you a new space in their hearts, but it won't be as large nor as fundamental as it could have been.

I really empathize with the son in this movie, because my relationship with my dad was pretty much exactly like this. He was great when he was around, witty, and fun. If you are looking for another old Christmas movie you might want to consider, "A Christmas Story", a 1983 Christmas comedy film. Set in December 1940, the film is presented in a series of vignettes, with narration provided by the adult Ralphie Parker reminiscing on one particular Christmas when he was nine years old in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana.

Some chris farley movies would be great, like black sheep and tommy boy. Tommy boy is a high key recommend. Billy madison is good, features farley briefly in it but brings you down another comedy genius adam sandler's path. A lot of the old SNL casts went on to make amazing movies.
One movie that always makes me feel nice and happy is Enchanted. The sequel just came out too after over a decade so it's a good one for the algorithm 😄
The amazing thing about him is that in real life, he knows and admits to his own mortality and that were really all just a footnote or less in the reality of all things.
This made me think of a joke where school kids tell the teacher what their parents do. One little boy says his dad plays piano in a whorehouse. When the teacher calls dad he says "I'm actually a criminal defense attorney, but how do you explain that to a kid?"
Obviously your first Jim Carrey movie. You are in for a real treat! I think this is one of his best in that it combines his physical comedy talents with his acting talents. Mary- Here is a movie I think you’ll really enjoy: “The Finest Hours” It has the almost all of the elements (except crime) that you seem to like: the true story of a USCG rescue mission; set in early 1950’s small town America, a simpler time which showcases extreme courage, outstanding friendship and a true love story that will definitely leave you with a warm and wholesome feeling.
other good comedies: 500 days of summer, me, myself, & irene (another jim carrey movie), 50/50, wedding crashers, rush hour series, 21 jump street, superbad, american pie trilogy, tropic thunder
Carrey is so entertaining, this era of his career is basically writers just coming up with silly plots (he can’t lie/he puts on a mask/he’s a pet detective/etc) and just letting him be funny around that = box office success. Lol
That was probably their house when they were still a couple, but they separated and he moved out to an apartment. Often in the US, when a family separates or divorces, the wife will keep the house and the children will continue to live there.
Mary if you're looking for a movie that's nonstop funny but is also nice and heartwarming, try The Birdcage (1996). It's an American remake of the French film La Cage aux Folles but it imo stands on its own fine. It stars the late great Robin Williams (another legendary comedy actor like Jim) and Nathan Lane. It's about a gay couple whose son is getting married. I don't want to spoil to much but really I think everyone should see it at least once.
The woman Fletcher (Jim Carrey) was defending in this movie is the actress who plays the psycho Tiffany in the Chucky films.

You want more like this? 'Bruce Almighty' also starring Jim Carrey
Yes Man has a very similar premise. He has to say yes to everything. I seem to recall liking it more.
"The money pit" should be pretty fun to watch.
Sweet! This should be epic. Hilarious movie. OK, Lady Lawyer, get ready to laugh!😂😂😂😂👍🍷🚬😎💪
Feel good movie for you ...The Party (1968) with Peter Sellers :D
The amazing thing about him is that in real life, he knows and admits to his own mortality and that were really all just a footnote or less in the reality of all things.
This made me think of a joke where school kids tell the teacher what their parents do. One little boy says his dad plays piano in a whorehouse. When the teacher calls dad he says "I'm actually a criminal defense attorney, but how do you explain that to a kid?"
Obviously your first Jim Carrey movie. You are in for a real treat! I think this is one of his best in that it combines his physical comedy talents with his acting talents. More just pure physical is The Mask. More acting is Yes Man. There are so many! He's one of my favorite comedians. You've got many laughs in your future.
Fire Marshall Bill spotted at 31:08! LOL
Does Belgium have a unified or separate legal system?
Hi Mary ... Happy Holidays to you and yours 😊👍🎅🤶❄❄🎄🎄. That was a sweet reaction. I knew you 'd like that one. I left you some suggestions for holiday movies on your "It's A Wonderful Life" reaction, so I won't bother you with them again here. It was a pleasure sharing this one with you, as always.
Jim Carey is an amazing comedy actor. He is so over the top and it makes it even more hilarious. This kind of humour really appeals to me althoughthe same can't be said for Tommy Lee Jones after they worked together. Hope to see more Jim Carey reactions
Mary- Here is a movie I think you’ll really enjoy: “The Finest Hours”
It has the almost all of the elements (except crime) that you seem to like: the true story of a USCG rescue mission; set in early 1950’s small town America, a simpler time which showcases extreme courage, outstanding friendship and a true love story that will definitely leave you with a warm and wholesome feeling.
other good comedies: 500 days of summer, me, myself, & irene (another jim carrey movie), 50/50, wedding crashers, rush hour series, 21 jump street, superbad, american pie trilogy, tropic thunder
Carrey is so entertaining, this era of his career is basically writers just coming up with silly plots (he can’t lie/he puts on a mask/he’s a pet detective/etc) and just letting him be funny around that = box office success.
Lol
Me myself and Irene!!
Is an amazing movie
One parent can't just up and leave like that if they share custody... Has to be court ordered or agreed-upon
This all started because Max thinks his dad lied. But he didn't lie. He intended to be at the party.
07:27 "Maybe I should become a lawyer" 07:37 Immediately changes mind.
Mary, have you watched While You Were Sleeping? you'll love it. 🥰
That awkward moment when, you realize that guy who just called you a sl-t, couldn't tell a lie to save his life.
If you want a feel-good movie that will put a big smile on your face, my favorite is Almost Famous with Kate Hudson. Guarantee you will like it.
