In reference to Time Goes By, the meaning of 'deep' has changed a hell of a lot, eh? Much better than I remember, too. Great track.

What an outrageous Volume this was. 5 is my favourite, but 1-4 are incredible (and Worldwide 01). These were the days when I was on a perpetual road of discovery in trance and genuinely got excited before releases. There's no agonising wait for tracks any more : (

But I do think that Volume 8 was the last "great Anjunabeats Volume", as it had uplifting trance still and it was (one or) two good mixes from start to finish with great track lists. Although both CDs of Anjunabeats Volume 5 and both CDs of Anjunabeats Worldwide 01 (Mixed by Super8 & Tab for CD 1 and Mark Pledger for CD 2) were the peak of Anjunabeats for me.
After Above & Beyond killed TATW and either forced the current trance producers on the label to make generic EDM instead of trance classics (Arty, Boom Jinx, Mat Zo, Audien, Oliver Smith, Maor Levi, Super8 & Tab, 7 Skies, and Sunny Lax) or forced them to leave the label (Dan Stone, Nitrous Oxide, Adam Nickey, Mark Pledger, and most infamously, Daniel Kandi, who couldn't legally release his 2012 remix of Sun In Your Eyes until early 2021 due to Above & Beyond), that caused a huge division among the Anjuna fanbase, with many new and a few old defending the change but the majority of the long-time fans were alienated by the change and stopped supporting Anjunabeats, which hasn't been the same since. In fact, trance hasn't truly been the same since EDM took off and then imploded a few years later. Although I feel trance is better off as a whole after 2016 than from 2012 - 2015, when there were so few artists who still produced actual trance (Suncatcher, the Thrillseekers, & Daniel Kandi being among the few doing so), EDM still did a number on trance.
On the other hand, Anjunadeep, which started as a progressive house side project of a bigger trance label, grew into a highly respected and quite good deep progressive and deep house label, and they have about double the subscribers of Anjunabeats on TH-cam because they "evolved" in a much classier way that Anjunabeats, which went full EDM with Anjunabeats Volume 10, which was the worst volume in the series imo.
And yet Anjunabeats just can't make up their mind on what they want to release, with baby steps towards trance (Sunny Lax - Solar Plexus, Above & Beyond - Counting Down The Days, Above & Beyond - Distorted Truth, Grum's Trine EP, and even good stuff that isn't trance like ilan Bluestone - Spheres, Genix's recent techno stuff, and Trance Wax's album, which has two 137+ BPM trance tracks!) then pulling back to generic and mediocre EDM by releasing crap like Norin & Rad - That Was Easy, the Jason Ross remix in addition to the Gorge update of Alone Tonight, 7 Skies - Zao, Maor Levi's work from 2013 on (except for Returning, which was quite good), and the terrible joke that is A&B's "remix" of Moby - Porcelain which imo isn't even a remix and just slaps generic big room sounds around the original track.
All Anjunabeats has going for them right now is Genix and Trance Wax, and that may not be enough to save them in the future...
WOW - This is proper music, proper Trance I own all these CD collections. producers making music for the hard times ahead cause nothing close to this exists.

The Anjunabeats "Volumes" need to go back to one CD. These were the times when a mix was properly thought out and executed to perfection. Now it seems it's a case of how many tracks they can ram into each CD.

True - and a lot of vocal trance sounds almost identical now, as if artists has agreed on a certain style and don't explore anymore. There used to be so much more variety and different styles.

after listening to asot top 50 of 2019 and noticing A&B had probably 5 or so tracks in the top 50, got me thinking i really cant remember liking anything from them lately but I liked everything they did in the early 2000's. I went through my cd's and noticed I only had volume 3 so now I'm listening to the whole series, so far 1-3 are amazing not one bad track on each cd
and vol 4 no? if i had to choose 1 id choose that, great mix of tracks at the start of it
