Good question - the chord is Em9 and I use the A Mixolydian Passing Tone scale (with an extra chromatic note thrown in. In my mind, Em7 and A7 are the same chord therefore I play the same scale on both. The ending part is a direct Charlie Parker lick.
Another great video Andy. I've often wondered what it's called when soloing freestyle and pursuing the perfect phrase for any given piece of music, what is it about guitarists (when soloing) that they pursue the perfect note at the right time on any given bar. It's almost like a drug. What drives us to to that ? Is it the same thing as creative/artistic expression ?! or are we control freaks ? Ive been a guitarist for 35 years and I still do it ! lol
Hi - I use the Line 6 Helix for my videos. You can achieve this tone with a good Fender tube amp and a Tube Screamer. My delay is a stereo delay set to 1/8 on one side and dotted 1/8 on the other.
Love your instruction, playing, etc. And your tone is impeccable. I, too, use a 335. Just wondering which delay pedal you are using and what are your settings. Thanks, Stephen.
Great lesson, playing, and killer tone!….what reverb are you using?…the notes just hang there like a heavenly choir with perfect eq on it, not sharp and spikey or too dark….awesome
Andy is a brilliant guitarist-and teacher!
Awesome 👍🏼. I love Larry Carlton
A lesson in the style of Norman Brown would be awesome too. ❤
Oh yes!

Andy, your playing is so smooth, you make butter feel like sandpaper.

I use the 63 Spring Reverb in the Helix. But you might be referring to the stereo delay that you hear in the sound. Thank you
We talking smoooooth jazz 😊
Quick question, what size string gauges do you use? As I get older, bending in tune gets harder!
I use 10-46 on this guitar, and 9-42 on my Strats.
"West Coast Guitar licks" needs some Steve Lukather.
