  • More than one person tried to warn me not to ride the @BikesandBeards Police Harley Electra Glide 1000 miles home, but I did it anyway. And then did 3,000 u turns on it. I’ll start with the warnings first and dig deeper to tell you why this beat up old bike is so good.

I'm a retired police officer, and I'm all in on Ducati!

  • @jukeboxfan60

I’m from the Netherlands and own an old 1989Texas police Electra glide for over 13 years , and I still love it and will never sell it. 👍

  • @SoloPilot6

I'm appreciating the irony of HD not working on bikes built a few years before, when they work so hard to sell brand new production of bikes that they made half a century ago.

  • @thomasbroadwater2214

I didn't know that dealerships were turning away older bikes. That's definitely a consideration for anyone thinking about buying a used bike. Thanks for the update and video.

A friend of mine has been riding a 1999 Police Road King for years. Good job Doodle.

  • @chriswils3973

I am from Belgium and own a 2016 Electra-Glide Police, and I did a 120.000 km on it so far

To answer your question at the end, Yes! I have a 1986 FLHTC. My Dad bought it in the early 90s, and I've had it since 07. Love your content!

I don't know about my local HD dealership, but I have another dealership that has Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati and they will not take in any bikes older than ten years to work on, not even for simple things like tire replacement. However, they have a large used inventory with many bikes in there that are more than ten years old, and they are happy to sell you one of those!

I got to pick up a dropped police cruiser at a demo at the H-D homecoming rally a couple years ago…I was surprised I could do it…the officers coaxed me through it, so I know it’s mainly about technique…I tried picking up a bagger last weekend at a women’s maintenance clinic…and I couldn’t do it (but the guys teaching didn’t really know the technique)…so I really want to try again…before I have to irl!

  • @jamesstark8377

You've got guts, Doodle! Can't wait to see you run a police course!

  • @Confedyank

As having a 20 yr old HD, it really depends on the dealer for service. It's recommended against because most dealers have young techs who can't do them. But you can find ones with older techs who knows twin cams are still twin cams.

As a former Police Motors Officer I can confirm the Police bikes we used were extremely well abused and I would never buy one. My personal ride is a Yamaha Royal Star Venture, which is actually a bigger bike in all respects but is the most comfortable I’ve ever ridden. Training is the key to riding big bikes.

  • @JoeGoeMotorcycleAdventures

The police seat is the most comfortable seat I've ever had! It's fantastic

I thank you kindly, Doodle. I worked at a Harley dealership in 1989-1990 and we serviced the local Ontario Provincial Police bikes. I thought about buying one as an apprentice mechanic. Your concise observations on riding and working one one made me realize they might still be an option for me. I was curious after watching you service the head gasket on that one. I wondered how your ride went. Your videos are very informative, and I'm grateful for all the efforts you put into helping riders. Keep it up, and keep it upright, my friend! Ride safe, dear Doodle! ,,,from Mr. Morgan Taylor. Yokohama, Japan. Formerly of Ontario, Canada.

  • @PickledT

I have an 02 Electra Glide and I can't see myself ever parting with it. Great video and keep doing what you do.

  • @martykong3592

:) THANKS for sharing! Did not know about serving older Bikes either :( ALL the BEST and Cheers!

Glad to watch you and meet you in Nashville this weekend at Lock and Lean 101. Keep climbing that ladder!

  • @gbok60

Excellent video. You have had incredible motorcycle journey. Its been fun to watch through the years.

  • @upsidedowndog1256

Send your seat to Mean City Cycles. They will custom tailor it to fit your posterier, weight, and riding style. No regrets after over 11 years on my sportbike. It went from 35 mile stretches to all day long rides.
