    I absolut agree with Matt Morings comment some hours ago - bliss! But because I'm a German I had a cup of coffee instead of tea and a piece of plum cake and vanilla ice cream with strawberrys while watching the video :-)
    Thank you, Allan, for this instructiv, amusing and funny 21 minutes even if they have nothing to do with sensor size. And thank you for not showing your radioactive irradiated toes ...

    I use Parchment paper and drape it right over the top too, I layer it as well and typically use 3 layers with speed lights

      Yes indeed - it is heavier than the tracing paper I like, but the stuff at my grocery store has a yellowish color (or that might just be my roll - I hope not!)

      @@AllanWallsPhotography mine looks like it's actually tracing paper. I love it, and know a good handful of coil builders who also use it with amazing results. I still need to try tracing paper, but I've just been so happy with Parchment I haven't grabbed any lol

    More really useful ingenious ideas and alcohol strong enough to knock out an elephant! I too experienced having my feet measured by an x-ray machine and people here in theUK think I am joking when I tell them. If I remember correctly there was a small oval screen at the top of the machine to for the assistant to see where your toes ended on the shoes you were trying on. Never hear of the radioactive Canon lens though!

    Enjoyed both parts of your short video series on sensor size matters. Identified with your childhood experience with feet X-rays. Had the same experience as a child in the shoe store in a small town near the center of the state of Wisconsin, USA. Some of my best friends are dentists, but you may be right to be suspicious of their trustworthiness. 🙂 You are a clever fellow. Best regards.

    I am still a little confused on sensor size/resolution can you tell me if my macro image will be more detailed if I use the same 2:1 fe lens on a 24mp sony a6400 or on a sony a7iii. My thought is that the same size image will fall on both sensors but the a6400 crop result will have better resolution as more of the 24mp sensor will be covered.

    • @AllanWallsPhotography
      @AllanWallsPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing - I am going to be releasing a video all about sensor resolution and pixel size/pitch/density within the next couple of weeks. It will cover this very question. But in a nutshell, no, or at least we need a lot more information. The relationship between pixel density and image quality, resolution, etc. is non-linear and can be extremely misleading when looked at alone, without the benefit of knowing the size, shape, pitch of the photosites, or, for that matter, the resolving power of the lens and how you are using it. It is actually a very complicated issue, when you get into it, and it does not lend itself to the shortcuts (more pixels = better camera) that camera companies really want you to believe in. It is a lot easier to add a few million photosites than it is to make a camera that takes better pictures. All will be revealed shortly!

    Fill a shot glass with 180 proof grain alcohol to the white line. Fill another shot glass to the white line with water and see how much of the water you can pour into the alcohol before that shot glass overflows. Now refill the shot glass to the white line again with water and see how much can be poured into the alcohol before it overflows. You'll need a third shot glass to the white line with water before the alcohol overflows the shot glass.

    Thread size of the m plan apo 5x, looking to mount on a bellows most likely, do you know off hand the extension tube length that would be required with the given adapters. Im a nikon shooter on the d780. Cheers mate, looking forward to join your patreon

    • @AllanWallsPhotography
      @AllanWallsPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      26mm is the thread size. I use mine on bellows or extension tubes. You will need 200mm extension from sensor to tube lens (Raynox DCR-150 or ITL200 work very well), and I like between 30-50mm of infinity space between objective and relay lens. You will like the bellows because you can switch to s short focus setup very quickly. Can't believe I forgot the link to Lightglass Optics. Just call 505 235-9468 or email Jeff through the contact page at www.lightglassoptics.com

      @@AllanWallsPhotography have found a phenomenal condition pb-6 that I am very excited to encorporate into the kit. I'm quite looking forward to high resolution imaging via microscope objective as the primary optical element. Spent many lab hours looking through them in their conventional setting, and am excited to bring them into the studio. Hope your evening is going well, would just say that you are a phenomenal educator, the likes of which many Universities fall short of employing.

    Allan, hello again. While it became very hard to find during the height of the pandemic, Denatured Ethyl Alcohol (95% Lab grade) is now (and was before) easily available on Amazon. (granted, it's still not cheap)

    Put the glue on the underside of the leaf. I use black flock tape to cover any reflective surface, I line any tube with this flock material, as I line all my telescope tubes, eyepieces etc. There are Astro firms who sell this flock fluff less material. Black shiny anodised tubes are fantastic reflectors of Infra-Red wavelengths, which produce an out of focus edge to stars or other objects, a feature the average photographer is unaware of. My background in medical/scientific and forensic imaging used these long and short UV wavelengths to great advantage. If I ever find time to get back into macro-I want to experiment with UV, as I now have the illumination sources and lenses that will transmit UV. Lack of time for all my interests is the enemy as I slow down in my octogenarian years. Excuse any typos/spelling-using fingers on an iPad is not my favourite pastime. Stay safe, looking forward to the microscope lens series. Most of my plan apo objectives are not infinity versions, but still cost an arm and a leg when they have the word Zeiss or Leica engraved on the barrel. I might flush out my Olympus long barrel plan app’s and blow the dust off. My oldest lenses are some RR (Rapid Rectilinear) used on my Thornton Pickard half plate field camera-circa about 1895, it would be interesting to see how one would perform as a macro lens?
