Hi, as far as I know, age is not an issue. I have seen people in late 50s getting social work degree and get the job. Regarding part time job, it depends on what visa you are on. International students are entitled for 24 hours a week but please check the authorised website for these info.

Basically you need to check on the website of each university. For instance, if you were to apply in Melbourne University you will need to at-least have an undergraduate degree. Having a paid job close to the area makes your application stronger. But if you still don't have any experience, you may still get an admission but may have to study some extra course.
