NATO is dominated by USA. If EU somehow creates a military of its own then it's going to be dominated by France & Germany and France and Germany will fight among themselves to lead EU's alliance. So it may sound good on paper to create a NATO type organization within EU but it may not be feasible in reality.
@iTs Messiah If you are creating a group to avoid friction with the BigBoss(US) then I don't know why you should sought friction in the new one too.
If e.u. was successful .. then I think there military alliance can also be successful ...
When France , germany , britain (century old enemies ) can make a strong political alliance .. then a military alliance is not a big deal
@@vandematram4 here's the catch. If they create a EU military then its function will be mainly to protect EU's interest outside the Europe coz NATO is kinda already there to protect Europe. France itself is capable of protecting its interset anywhere in the world. Germany has a strong military but not strong as UK & France. So Germany will try to lead the EU military for their own benefit which I don't think France will easily allow but yeah it's definitely possible to create such alliance given the precedent of EU like you said.

I think Europe needs to build its own defense forces. Some politicians may oppose the proposal. But I think now the majority of politicians in Europe think they need to have their own security forces.

National interest matters in Army. EU is not a nation. There are various countries in EU with different interests.

EU is not any poor countries anymore and they can develop their own military and US's more focus would be in Indo Pacific region in the near future so it will focus on QUAD rather than NATO.

In Europe language matters. Every country has it’s own language and they don’t compromis on that. In fact Belgium is divided on the basis of language. North is Dutch speaking Flanders and South is French speaking Wallonië. And sometimes they ask to divide Belgium further on the basis of language . So unification of Europe is not possible and would be very unstable.

Before creating EU forces EU must work on creating sense of European nationalism among people of the region. Fighters must have that sense because we've recently seen in Afghanistan soldiers who were fighting for Afghan gov. had more affinity towards their tribe than to their country because they lacked that sense of nationalism and therefore the gov collapsed.
