He has severe anxiety and didn’t perform for years. He wrote tons of No. 1 songs for other people. It took his wife to convince him to sing himself. He was so anxious she had to always stand next to him looking straight at him so he would relax. He’s amazing and she has a beautiful voice herself.

So Chris was a ghost writer for years. He didn’t want to be on stage. His wife pushed him to do his own thing and he absolutely exploded into super stardom. Rightly so.
Actually Chris played on stage alot as a member of the steel drivers and he's played with alot of other bluegrass bands.
@@ifeeltheneedfospeed2339 But playing as a member of a large band is a lot different than being a 'solo' artist. While I love the steeldrivers, they did not get to the same level of popularity as he has solo.

@@sersastark as someone who has been in a bluegrass band i can say yes and no. Basically everyone has a solo at some point in almost every song. I know he isn't the biggest fan of having all of the spotlight on him, but he's not a stranger to it.
Even being in a band though the focus tends to be more on the lead singer and there are solo artists that have had the same backing band for years too so that it almost feels like they are in a band, yet when performing live there probably is not too much difference between the focus being on the band's singer or the solo artist singer with a backing band.
Either way, I suspect Chris's main issue from before was that he did not mind writing (either for himself or his bands or others to record) or playing live or recording, and it was more the other outside obligations that he would have been reluctant to do, such as larger scale interviews and other media promotions.
His wife is his back up singer. .She is never far away from him because he has a Very hard time being on stage and she keeps him focused. .loved your reaction

Any time you come across his live performance videos, ALWAYS watch those instead of the studio versions. He is a rare artist where he puts so much more of himself into it when he's there in the moment that simply can't be captured in the studio. Also Kay, your eyes are so beautiful

I'm so glad you reacted to this song. Chris use to just write for other people. Even Adele did one of his songs. Thankfully, his wife encouraged him to sing! He just released a new single entitled, "Cold" which is amazing. However, if you want to see/hear him do a classic soul song, react to his version of James Brown's "Man's World". Again, excellent reaction.

He has a terrible case of stage fright. He does not like to be famous. His wife talked him into finally performing now like he does. He was/is a ghost writer. Many of the pop songs you heard from the U.S. prob 10 yrs ago were written by Chris. HIs wife encouraged and helped him get over his stage fright so he can perform live. This was a rare appreance were she is not with him. HIs wife is his back up singer and she has a incredible voice ass well.

He was in a previous band called the Steel Drivers as well that has amazingly good music much of it civil, and revelationary war-themed. I saw him live with his wife. Go see them they are stellar!

Chris has stage fright. He’s more into writing and playing his music, rather than performing. His wife sometimes does harmony and backup. He’s freaking awesome! When you can, check out his a live version rather than the audio. Also, he does have one video called “Fire Away” That’s so good and you probably will be in tears by the time you finish it.
He's just who he is & I don't think he cares about that life...he just loves music. He's very humble & I really respect that. I don't think he knows how good he is!
Ladies you are correct. I have met him and he is really shy. He wrote many number hits for his fellow country artist, and has had artist like Adele cover his music. For years he said he never wanted the spotlight but the people around him pushed him and told him the world was meant to hear his voice! And the rest is history😃

And it’s adorable....his 2 biggest vocalist heroes are Gregg Allman (allman brothers band) and none other than the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin. You need to check out the live video of the tribute he did to her. In the middle of a concert he heard that she had passed away and came out from his set break and spoke to the crowd and did a cover of her hit “Do me Right”. Amazing.
