Omg the bloated egg hatched and was healthy???? Amazing! I was so sure it wasn't gonna hatch, or even be alive. From what we could see it looked very pink, and the baby inside also looked very pink and small, like it stopped developing. But then you cut the egg and it was alive, and I thought about the lil poor baby who did hatch, had their head out, but was all kinked and the two halves of their body were fused together and started splitting... I'm so so so happy it wasn't the case for this one!

So much so that my new obsession is watching a channel called ‘Project RattleCam’. It is a 24/7 channel during the summer that studies prairie rattlesnakes in Colorado. I have been able to share some of what I’ve learned from you with others in the chat. Last night we were treated to a live viewing of prairie rattlesnakes being born in the rookery. It was amazing to watch!

I found this channel a year ago, maybe a bit longer now. It really helped me get through some late nights studying and doing homework. Once I came home from college, I introduced the channel to my parents. Now, my dad is nearly obsessed with it and rushes to watch the latest videos as soon as he can. Back at college now, it's doubly comforting to watch these as not only are Ed and Emily really calming and comforting to watch, it's nice to think I'm watching the same thing as my parents are Needless to say, we love you, Snake Discovery!

We had hoped to start our own modest little Hognose family this year, but sadly both our aging doggos have had big health problems, and though the insurance has been amazing (seriously, make sure you have *good* pet insurance, and know what it covers, and up to what limits!) the co-pays and excesses have eaten the Snek Fund, for now. At least we can still enjoy, vicariously, all the wonder and joy happening over at Snake Discovery!
