LPR Geddes I’m not an avid racewalking fan (I’d be worried if anyone was) but I’m fairly sure the rules are that it has to look like walking to the human eye. They have are allowed to have both feet off the ground 3 times which is why you hear the commentators talk about ‘red cards.’ However, I doubt they could keep track of every athelete for the whole race so a lot of them probably ‘run’ more than 3 times.
@@lprgeddes2017 It is not a run, it is a flight phase, but judged by the human eye. Some judges are more polished and less influenced by athlete representation. Racewalkers are disqualified all the time, and if you actually watched this event you would know this.
@@libradragon I am perfectly aware that plenty of racewalkers are disqualified. Throwing insults around at people based on nothing is not a good idea on platforms like TH-cam. As both a fan and official, it is a disgrace to the sport of athletics that so many athletes get away with cheating - be that intentional or unintentional. If this occurred less, then racewalking would be far more reputable than it is currently.
@@lprgeddes2017 I apologize for my assumption. It was not my intention to throw you an insult. We are likely unified in very similar backgrounds. I watched the whole thing when it took place, cheering on my colleagues and on all of the female walkers. It was a historic race and no fan of Athletics should pass up on watching it.
In swimming you've got freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. For track and field you've only got two different types of gaits, running and race walking so race walking is a welcome addition.
3h50 - Tokyo 2020(1) Olympic Games 4h04 - Doha 2019 IAAF WC 4h10 - Kuala Lumpur 1998 Commonwealth Games Those are the slowest 50km walks in recent memory. All those are because of the hot and humid conditions. Fact: the last competitor to cross the finish line clocks 5h32 (women), 1h9m behind winner
A relay event could have a race walk on a track, two off-track running legs, and then a track run as the fourth leg. This would add variety to track relay events. This would interest me, but I know it wouldn't interest everyone. We'll see what happens.
Lots of discipline needed to even just follow the rules in that situation. If someone broke out running at the end that would give me a good laugh (hopefully he would be laughing, too, in addition to being upset at himself for getting disqualified after all that work).
I never understood racing walking, and then I met a competitive race walker, the 2nd fastest in his country, i saw the training he put in, and then I understood even less.
It's been out in the public since XIXth century, actually, its form evolved some whet since then though. Sadly, it doesn't get the screen time and recognition it deserves.
Check out the late 1890's through the year 1905. "Pedestrianism" was all the rage and wagers were made on it more than any other sport of the time. Including Boxing, Football, Baseball. An Olympic event for more than 100 years. 🎽
Question: I assume being that it's a race "walk", one foot must always be on the ground. So does that mean there are people watching to make sure one foot is always on the ground? Is there a penalty for both feet leaving the ground?
Yes. I came to this video after watching the Vox TH-cam Channel on the rules and techniques of Race Walking. Check it out, it's a good, short--yet informative video.
Is there a penalty for both feet leaving the ground? You'll get a warning (🔴 card) for doing that IF it's spotted by the judges. 3x🔴 and you'll serve a 5 minute penalty (instead of instant DSQ, different than previous races).
Seems like they've established an optimal form for fast walking...what's with the hip thrust left and right? Is that supposed to help relieve pressure and pain of your foot?
I think its meant to be relaxed in that sense. The judges can only officiate with their naked eyes, with no help from a camera or replays. This is probably because its impossible for someone to completely stick to such rigid rules all the time, and they wouldn't want to penalise every athlete every single lap cause that would ruin the flow of the race. And if they did punish it fully then racers would just have to decrease their pace to such an extent where it might not be interesting to watch anymore(not that this is the most fast paced sport but its obvious that it's managed to gather quite a fan base). So they decided that we'll check occasionally with judges on the sides to make sure athletes are at least attempting to adhere to the rules and not taking advantage of things, but not so much as to ruin the pace of an event.
What kind of running manoeuvre it is, why they r not running normally, r they disable ? Anyone here who can guide me, what is story, i didn't get it...
