    Detailed look and testing of the Emma Hybrid Mattress, a foam and micro pocket spring mattress sold in the UK. The Emma mattress uses 2.5 cm micro pocket springs under it's top Airgocell layer and these are the unique points of this mattress along with the zoning on the base layer. I go through all the specs of the Emma Hybrid mattress and compare it's attributes with other similar online bed-in-a-box mattresses. 2020 version.

    When I first embarked on this new journey of buying a mattress, little did I know the sheer amount of features and choice now available.
    After weeks of mattress adds popping up on everything from my news feed to suggestions from you tube. You are by far the best thing I've found. I've picked the Emma and waiting for it to arrive 👍.
    You are just a regular guy who is driven to give great reviews, easy to understand and full on knowledgeable.

    I've just been to John Lewis to try out different mattresses. This included the Emma Original, the Emma Hybrid and the Simba Hybrid Original. Also tried out Tempur while I was there. Found the Emma Hybrid super comfortable, the Emma Original too hard and the Simba Hybrid was a bit too firm for my liking. I liked the blue Tempur - Tempur Cloud Elite - a lot. I'm a combo sleeper but mostly side and back. I just worry if I went for the Emma Hybrid, it would then end up too soft but genuinely loved it in store.

      @@ninaowusuh1418 I had a bit of a Goldilocks experience. I did order the Emma Hybrid (the OG soft one) and I found it was great to lie on but an inferno and actually too soft to SLEEP on. Realising I needed something firmer, I sent it back and got the Emma Original. Again, too hot and I would sink in too much so that went back. I should add, I am a hot sleeper - I have a 4 tog duvet all year round. I now have the Otty Pure and I love it. I wouldn't have thought I'd enjoy a mattress as firm as that but it's sort of soft on top with much better support. It's handy these companies let you try the mattresses out because I realised I didn't know what I wanted/needed until I'd slept on a few! Returns process with Emma was super easy.

    I purchased a Casper a while ago, greatly helped by your videos Alan and which I'm very happy with, but a couple of weeks ago I ventured back into the mattress world to help a neighbour choose a new mattress. I was surprised and alarmed to see that both Casper and Leesa have withdrawn from the UK market now (Leesa was the other mattress I tried at home before deciding to keep the Casper).
    Anyway, I ended up suggesting that she got an Emma and ran across one thing that might interest you. When trying to decide between the original and the hybrid I spoke to 2 different customer reps from Emma on live chat and when we were discussing softness/firmness one said that if my neighbour found her chosen mattress too soft or too hard they could send out, free of charge, a different layer of foam that could make it softer or firmer as desired! At first I assumed they were talking about a free mattress topper so I asked whether the new layer of foam was to sit on top of an existing mattress or if it went inside the zip cover. They said it went inside the zip cover although I didn't think to ask if it was an extra layer or if it was to replace one of the existing layers. I wouldn't have thought that there is much space inside the cover for a whole extra layer so maybe Emma have different versions of that top layer of fancy patented foam in different densities.
    (My neighbour actually ended up getting one of each, an original and a hybrid, on the basis that she wanted to use two singles on an 180cm wide double bed anyway so if she really didn't get on with one of them she could simply return it during the trial period and use the refund to replace it with the type she ends up preferring.)

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      im scratching my head at that one. replace a layer inside the cover? im pretty sure that cant be true. its pretty normal for these companies to offer a topper though to change the feel. it can work for a while, to get past the trial period but they are normally low quality toppers. no idea what emma send though. i got one for my first eve, i think it was half an inch thick. lo.l! enough to make it feel like a softer mattress but after 6 weeks it was of no use.

    Hi, there seems to be some reviews on respected sites like Trust Pilot, etc, with people claiming Thier mattresses are failing maybe after two and half years, and they're having to jump through hoops, to get the company to honour the garantee, would appreciate your thoughts.
    I also suffer with lower back pain hip pain as well, I was thinking about, maybe going for just a normal pocket spring mattress, possibly medium, around the £300 mark, and using a topper on top, maybe get a longer life out of it, I'm only 5ft 7" and 11 stone, what you think good or bad idea?
    Would also like to know, if you don't mind me asking what mattress are you currently using? Lastly I had a nectar mattress for just under the year, but sent it back because it gave me lower back pain, all the time, and I'm a side sleeper and each night I would have to climb out if the dip, and get onto a higher spot, it wasn't out of shape or nothing it just dipped when you were laying on it during the night, they refunded me no problem.

    • @alanrossreviews
      @alanrossreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These companies are a victim of their own marketing in many ways. I try and get over that the ideal way to use a mattress is a firmer mattress than is ideal and fine tune with a topper. The top is what goes first and thus you can swap out a topper when you get issue's rather than the whole mattress. All mattresses dip over time. All companies will specify the amount of dip before its a warranty issue. I have slept on an ergoflex with a bodymold supreme topper without issue for 2 years.

      i would say the original is not for side sleepers unless you are overweight, that goes for any firm mattress and i class the original as on the firm side. the hybrid may be more suitable but may be a tad too soft. in the old say i would have said try the leesa but they just left the uk 🤓 would you describe the emma original as feeling a bit too firm? for persistent pains memory foam is normally your freind which comes down to nectarm ergoflex and hugge. Ergoflex might be a tad too firm which would leave hugge and nectar. you have to like the feel of the slow responding memory though. emma hybrid however is certainly a better option for a side sleeper.
