  • "Lahti (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈlɑhti]; Swedish: Lahtis) is a city and municipality in Finland. It is the capital of the region of Päijänne Tavastia (Päijät-Häme) and its growing region is one of the main economic hubs of Finland. Lahti is situated on a bay at the southern end of lake Vesijärvi about 100 kilometres (60 mi) north-east of the capital city Helsinki, 38 kilometres (24 mi) south-west of the Heinola town and 74 kilometres (46 mi) east of Hämeenlinna, the capital of the region of Tavastia Proper (Kanta-Häme). It is also situated at the intersection of Highway 4 (between Helsinki and Jyväskylä) and Highway 12 (between Tampere and Kouvola), which are the most significant main roads of Lahti." - wikipedia.org
"Lahti is a long-time pioneering city in environmental sustainability, dating back to as early as 1990 and before. The European Commission has named Lahti as the European Green Capital of 2021."
20+ Hours of Travel means Jetlag for most worldly citizens. JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew is no exception to this dilemma, but adjusting to the time can be expedited if one stays awake on day one, including a possible athletic pursuit or two. In this video, JOM rolls for a hastily planned 25ish kilometre solo ride to shake out his legs and bike, and almost immediately, another shakedown ride with attendees for the FNLD GRVL pre-ride. More to come soon from Finland!

Welcome to Lahti for some geavel fun! :) Funny seeing the same roads I ride almost weekly on someone else's videos :D
Plenty of gravel to see here at Lahti and Päijät-Häme region! Some of the good ones can also be seen on some of my videos :)

I ride Finnish gravel roads on an old roadbike that takes 32 mm tires. If you don't need to go on technical trails I find 32 mm ideal for a mix of gravel and paved roads. Have a good time in Lahti!

Finland is a wonderful country. Great people, food and biking. Went there fat biking in the snow. Would love to go back in the summer.

Nice. Was excited to see Finland through your lens. Looks a lot like where I grew up (upper peninsula of Michigan). Great shots as always

It takes some time to recover from 7 (?) hours of jet lag. I need several days when I travel to Germany, which is "only" 6 hours.

The landscape looks very similar to where I live in south Sweden. Cool to see you trying out the gravel of the North.

How was the traffic while you were on the paved stuff? I’m always curious about the interaction between cars and bikes in places far from home.

Interactions within the town of Lahti have been good, motorists are aware and look out for cyclists. I've been afforded plenty of room on quiet country roads, and a couple of semi-busy paved roads nearer to town.
