A story about Liza and Momus (aka Nick Currie)
After Liza went to LA to accept her award and after Kodak confirmed they would show this piece at their Cannes Film Festival Pavilion, she wrote to Nick. She did this to let him know what she had done with his song and since he was in Paris at the time, to invite him to the showing.
Momus wrote back to her to say that unfortunately he would be unable to make it down for the festival. At that time he was recovering from eye surgery, but he was able to watch the copy she had included with the letter. He said that until then he had never really thought of his song as a visual piece. But, she had changed his mind. He was happy for what she had been able to accomplish using his music.
The next year he was on tour in the United States. Liza traveled to San Francisco to see the show. At one point in the evening, she doesnt quite remember when, perhaps it was during an intermission; she took a chance and introduced herself to Momus. He not only remembered her, but he invited her up on stage with him.

In a wonderful pantomime Nick reached into a case and pulled up an invisible statuette. He told the audience Liza's story and how happy he was that one of his songs made it into the Cannes Festival. He took the time and explained that he was holding an Oscar Award for Best Music Video and presented to Liza.
The statuette is now displayed in a place of prominence.

I love the end! So psyched for a radically awesome career in the 2000's where the sky is the limit and there's no recession and we have food and shelter and health care and we're all massaging horses and living our dreams &shit!

lame. I doubt she knows half of what the allusions truly are about (the hangman and the mandolin.... it's a reference to an old Bowie song). Too literal for my tastes. OMG - close ups of book pages... give it up

I made this as a student in college with zero budget and it was over 20 years ago. Also, I won a cash award of 2,000$ and I got a ticket to the Cannes Film Festival in Spring of '98. So. Not too shabby...for tired old books.

@@peregrinec5477 weirdly, I got your reply message in my junk mail account. But I was intrigued and so I clicked and watched your video. I thought it was well done (considering your resources) and of course it's an utterly fantastic song to begin with. Then I looked through the comments and saw that someone slagged you terribly. Then I noticed it was me. I can't honestly even remember watching your video the first time. And I'm really sorry for being so harsh. I must have been having a helluva bad day./week/year. I won't erase history by deleting my original comment but just know that I am quite embarrassed at myself for saying such things. It was undeserved.

@@KingOfTheGarys Well, thank you. I appreciate your touching back. My husband actually posted this on my behalf years and years ago. I made this in 1997. I really didn't want him to do it. But, he did it. I saw your comment 8 years ago and it did eat at me at first. I only rewatched this recently because one of my friends who appeared in it asked to see it again after 20 years. That's when I responded. So, I get your initial point. When my husband posted this years later, I knew this kind of thing was coming. I knew it was too old. But, Nick Curry did like it at the time. :) No hard feelings.

@@peregrinec5477 I've met Nick many times, and seen him live on several occasions (interviewed him once too), and yet I've never been able to convince him to do this song live. Although he did 11 Executioners once, solo on acoustic, and that was quite thrilling!

@@KingOfTheGarys Did you see him in San Francisco Halloween in, I think, 1998? We were there. :D I was even brought up on stage. :D
