For the information, in snow one should engage 4 L (if black ice or lots of snow, mud etc), and for just control and stability use 4 H. Many people consider 4 H to be the boss which is not so . Hope it helps
Sort of true but with new Thar 4H is better until we need more torque. In 4H new Thar gets the benefits of ESP based artificial locking diff at front which goes away with 4L.
Instead of Anti-freeze u can also use petrol. Put 1/1.5L petrol in full tank.
Bro try to make total expenses cost of the trip as well so we can know the overall budget required for our trips.

An AWD car like duster / XuV would serve ur purpose , but snow chains r a must for those cars bcz they can't find traction on black ice as the wheels will spin with acceleration and the brakes won't lock bcz the tyre will slide so chains will help in braking as well ... U can buy branded snow chains which costs upwards 12k for 2 wheels or a cheap one which u can buy in manali or any snowy areas ... Low range vehicles like fortuner , Thar have an advantage in deep snow as even if they were stuck they can self recover but for these kind of situations AWD works fine

@UCz2jdlb4KO2mLaiEMNh1dLg I agree with you partly but 2Wheel drive vehicles even with snow chains won't work in this condition as in the hairpins with black ice even 4 wheel drive vehicles struggle for traction .... And if there is thick snow on the road then there is no chance of a 2WD vehicle crossing it .... An AWD is atleast a must with proper snow chains to go extreme in suck conditions n during snow storms even the AWD vehicles struggle bcz there will be huge piles of ICE on the road and low range is needed to get out of them

I would suggest, keep the chains and if got stuck use chains to come out. Its not recommended to take 2 wheel drive vehicles when its pouring snow, it is really tough on 2 wheel drive vehicles, sometimes even 4x4 get stuck.
i m thinking having snow chains on front wheels & roller chains on rear wheel... & use it through out in manali &/or beyond solang & atal tunnel... because its said below 5 degree ruber of tyre become very hard & can slip even though if you have brand new tires.. my main consideration is If i be able to drive in above mentioned way in uphill having 6 inches of snow ???
