    True Story: I had a lady who hair was shedding a lot also and recommended her to see her doctor, she called me back at the salon a week later to thank me for telling her to go see a doctor because she was diagnosed with cancer and had to start treatment immediately. Sometimes hair loss is also a sign that something is going on in your body

    • @xchrysantha
      @xchrysantha ปีที่แล้ว +29

      This is so true and I'm SO glad you said something to her. I started losing my hair around 2016, which was coincidentally when I started bleaching and dyeing my hair. After a while I stopped, but the hair still kept falling out. I even had bald spots scattered all over my head. Lo and behold, in 2021 I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It was maybe two months after having the cancer removed that all of my hair started growing back!!!! I couldn't believe it, and now I have all my hair back. So YES sometimes hair loss is definitely a sign of something happening in the body, and it's important to get it checked out as soon as possible.

      Very possible. My hair started falling out suddenly in clumps and when I went to seek medical attention I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata which is an autoimmune disorder. The thing with AA is that I wasn’t “sick” and had no other symptoms. Other conditions like Lupus and thyroid problems can cause hair loss as well. So you really have to get everything checked if your hair starts falling out.

      Not hard at all. I sat on a jury once and we all unanimously agreed defendant was probably guilty but followed the law; the prosecution did not prove their case. Wasn’t hard for any of us. It is actually rather easy when you put yourself in someone else’s shoes and realize you’d want to same treatment and burden of proof if you were in that position.

      I REALLY enjoy that JJ gives the defendant enough info to bring a civil suit in the future, she just needs to gather written proof of Plaintiffs slander. Telling defendant 'you definitely have a case, but need proof, use this case as evidence that she had NO case against you to say what she's saying IF you get proof' JJ really does try to help but is bound as a judge and cannot provide "legal advice or counsel" during these cases because she a judge. I bet if Plaintiff comes back (as a defendant) with written proof and witnesses who have it in writing, she'd win her case.

    She probably had that ponytail too damn tight to where her edges broke off or got pulled out over time.
    For the ones who don’t know what a relaxer is,
    it’s a chemical put on the hair to strip the protein(which forms the curl) from the hair to make it straight.
    Without the protein, the hair is fragile and without proper care, makes it much more prone to snapping off especially if she was putting it in a tight ponytail for the time she did.

    • @arcaderat1613
      @arcaderat1613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      With how often she was getting her hair relaxed it could have just been compounding damage from the chemicals(which could easily caused it to start breaking in a ponytail as you said.) Some of these processes can damage hair just because of how they work. I used to have my hair permed, bleached and colored and I would regularly hit points where just running my fingers through it was enough to cause a log of breakage. I'd have to cut off a lot and let it grow out because of how damaged the hair can get. I wouldn't blame the salon for that, I'd accept that I'm doing too much and start doing some good conditioning treatments.

    • @kittykat-oz6me
      @kittykat-oz6me 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Also, depending how OFTEN she put her hair up in a ponytail, ruins your hair. My hair was doing ok for a long time till I got a job where you NEED to have your hair up. Now my hair is falling out due to how often it's up, and my medicine that I need to take. She should of also asked her doctor like I did. They would of asked her the same thing about how often she's putting her hair up.

    • @PrePre_
      @PrePre_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@kittykat-oz6me Yup! I wear ponytails regularly. My stylist told me that if I wear it regularly, I would need to change it from a high to low often to ensure my hair wouldn't break off. Eventually, it started to and I don't even wear it tight. I can imagine the plantiff having a fresh perm and wearing a tight ponytail afterwards.

    • @tsmuff
      @tsmuff 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That is true. Another reason may be that if your hair is down you shed throughout the day without really noticing. If you wear a ponytail it holds ALL the hairs including any that have fallen out so when you take the rubber band out you'll see hair come with it. I know because I experienced this myself when I started wearing ponytails a lot. You lose from 50 to 100 hair a day. So when most of them come out at once when you take the rubber band out that was holding them it can feel like hair loss. She may have had that happen in addition to too tight a ponytail breaking them.

    To all of the ladies who currently have a relaxer in your hair, especially for those individuals that have been getting a relaxer for several years, and now you desire to go natural: As you are growing your hair out naturally, you will experience hair breakage, as the relaxer grows out. All of the relaxed hair is going to break off. When this happened to me I understood the process. Then, I wore my hair naturally for five years, and desired to switch back to a relaxer. For the following reasons. I've always had healthy, thick, and long hair. Relaxer, or not. However, my natural hair was 10 times as thick! My morning, noon, and nighttime routines were drastically effected by longer hair prep times. Unfortunately, the hours that I spent in dedication to being a medical professional at that time did not leave me any extra time to do this on my own. I barely had any time at all for sleeping. When I switched back to the relaxer, I noticed that my hair was shedding. I always paid for deep conditioning treatments. Yet, my hair was still shedding. I began taking the Mane Choice vitamins, and it soon stopped. However, I also feel as though my hair stopped shedding because of the following reasons: No relaxer before 8 weeks. Do pay for deep conditioning treatments. Make sure the ends of your hair are always trimmed. Wear a silk/satin cap when laying down resting/bedtime. Drink plenty of water. Eat a variety of fresh fruits, and vegetables. I am not an expert. I just wanted to share what my experience was like during my twenties, and part of my thirties with my hair. Now at the age of 45, and a 3 year breast cancer Survivor, I am a beautiful baldie. It's funny to look back on all the fuss with my hair. I am blessed. ❤😊

    After a time with natural hair, I went to a stylist who would use a mild relaxer on my hair and leave it in for longer. I was used to stylists using regular strength in my thick, course hair, so this was different. The results were nice, but after a couple retouches, I noticed that my hair was shedding like crazy. Even the stylist noted the thinning of my hair over the course of one year. In the end, I had her cut it all off and began my natural journey again. No need to sue her. She's human. Perhaps her technique worked flawlessly for others. That was in 2010.... been natural ever since.

    JJ doesn't realise you can be allergic to a new hair relaxer and it doesn't cause a burn, but it does cause shedding for the subsequent months. Also if you switch brand relaxers it may interact with the one with one you typically use and also cause shedding without burning.
    You don't always have to burn to have a negative shedding reaction to hair treatment and it isn't necessary to sue the stylist for it. It is par for the course. Patch test first.

  • @Heyyyitsjadee
    @Heyyyitsjadee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Appalachia or however you spell it is a complete possibility. I used to do hair and one time I was giving this lady a haircut and she had a bald spot. I didn't say anything because the haircut she already had compensated for the bald spot. She loved the cut and came back not even 20 minutes later and accused me of shaving a bald spot (I didn't even use clippers) and that's when we found out she had no idea that she was even balding. Quite possible this happened to the plaintiff and she didn't know... So naturally you'd assume it's caused by a salon visit when she was getting chemical services. Not saying its right, and JJ is absolutely correct, you know immediately if you have chemical burns.

  • @darcihoudeshell2588
    @darcihoudeshell2588 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not true JJ. I had a perm in 1980 and the front didn't take. So I went back a week later. A week after that the front completely broke off at the scalp! I was 18 and truly mortified! 😭 There was NO burning at all!

      @anndeecosita3586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Here’s the thing, I have locs and I get them bleached regularly. Every 8-12 weeks depending on my new growth. That being said, about 8 months into my bleaching journey my locs began to break one by one and random increments. I later learned it was because they were over processed with 40 developer the previous time instead of the usual 30. There was no burning. No immediate knowledge and no underlying health conditions. Just pure over processed hair.
    While it’s great the JJ knows the difference between perms and relaxers, what she doesn’t know are the makings of a black woman’s hair. This lady did not say she experienced chemical burns and the like, she said she experienced hair loss.
    This does not always show immediately and can be a gradual process. It’s incompetent to dismiss people based on lack of knowledge.

    Hmmmm. There isn't anything wrong with a relaxer. If he hair is fine she should have pushed the relaxer time it for longer than 4 to 6 weeks. It is a chemical, so if anything the stylist could have told her to wait a while because it's not needed. So with age her body has changed and it's not the same as it was when she was 20. Plus they are leaving out the stress part because that can make your fall out. Her ponytail was probably extremely tight and who is say besides her that she did use the correct scrunchie or a rubber band. Her health is also another thing. I just know we not gonna blame it on the relaxer. It's so many variables in this situation to take into consideration. Even if it is a chemical because everyone wants to be blonde but don't say anything about that. (It is a chemical also)
