We humans of any age or background . . . if we are old enough to love, it is inevitable this song will someday apply to us. And when that time comes, we no longer need feel alone and rejected. In this performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score, with Tim Rice’s lyric, the majestic soprano of Kiri Te Kanawa carries us to a deeper realization. We are made to understand that even failed love, for all its hurt, brings out in us something that beforehand we did not possess. A human with an open heart and the capacity to devote themselves to one other person, even though sometimes unfulfilled 😂, sometimes not 😊, is justified to make the existential declarative statement: “I love, therefore I am.”
I have heard so many perform this piece but I always come back to this performance of Dame Kiri. Her voice is just immensely powerful w emotion that will grip your soul till the end.
My God, I think i just cried out all my tears!! Dame Kiri is THE most amazing vocalist EVER. The song is just pure gold as well! A winning combination!!
I saw this whole program. It was one of the best nights I have had. Dame Kiri has a gripping voice. Once she grabs you she doesn't let go! Love you!!!!
What an amazing talent in Kiri Te Kanawa. This song is genius, always brings tears to my eyes. Such a sad and beautiful song and Kiri's voice makes it all the more heartfelt.
And to think that this wonderful lady was given up for adoption and not wanted by her mother. her father (bio) was a wonderful entertainer, she is legend.
And before that it was the big song from a previous Andrew LLoyd Webber musical, "The Beautiful Game" under the title Our Kind Of Love. The show ran in the west end for 11 months from September 2000
You can immediately tell the difference between Madame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sierra Boggess when they hit the high note. The voice of Sierra Boggess appears a bit tight and stressed and lacks of depth.
Elaine had evita and memory and sunset but it be nice for her to have a romantic part that ends happy for her character ,evita -died of cancer cats - old lonely cat sunset - she kills her man I think
