I plan on reviewing ALL of the 21st Century, Elite Force, Jsi/Merit 1:18 scale models. It will get expensive haha.
Nice display model for a pre-built, and a decent presentation. A couple of points to add to your knowledge. First, I've noticed some confusion in the comments. USS Hornet, CV-8, was the ship that launched the Doolittle raid. She was lost at the battle of Santa Cruz in October of 1942. USS Hornet, CV-12, was the considerably more modern Essex Class carrier that carried her name forward from 1944 onward. Second, large navy ships didn't carry lifeboats, though they would certainly be used for that if the ship went down, however... The two large open boats have the look of 42-foot utility launches (hard to tell detail on pieces that small). They were like flatbed trucks that the ship would deploy in port to make personnel and light cargo runs. The small open boat is a 26-foot motor whaleboat, which was like the ship's "pickup truck" for light work, inspecting the sides, and just whatever they might need to put a few men alongside for. The two covered boats are called "gigs" (pronounced the same as a side-gig) which were personal transports in harbor for the senior officers, in the case of a carrier, one for the captain, and one for the admiral in command of the battle group. Not trying to set off any trolls, just hope you find this helpful. Nice job showing and describing everything.
You can take that model and modify it too by adding photoetch. The hardest part is the painting. I bet weathering would also make her look even cooler.
Loved the timing of an ad that popped up. Just as you opened the first white box, the ad cut in and showed a package being opened revealing.........bacon.
Love how you're not just focusing on Aircraft, but branching out into other vehicles. Love the review! (Btw, its Error 404. Had to make a new account lol)
Very nice review!! Trumpeter also offers this ship as a kit in the same scale. You can buy the aircraft from Merit as the Doolittle raid or buy the trumpeter kits and find the decals on the aftermarket and make the aircraft way better looking and detailed.
The reason they launch fast was while the Hornet and Enterprise was steaming for Tokyo a Japanese gun boat or patrol boat or some ship spotted and reported the task force. From Battle 360, I think it was a fishing boat or trawler. Soon as the US sunk it, they had intercepted a message to Tokyo and That’s what made Doolittle suddenly launch the raid. If they didn’t launch and just kept steaming forward, I think Japan would have asked the Japanese battleships and so to attack and destroy the task force. And luckily the US launched and bombed Tokyo, but like you said many had to ditch and one flew to Russia
where can I buy these??? please advise!!! only if the model was available in a larger 1/48 scale with intricate detail!!! yeah it would cost a bomb shell but will be worth it!!!
Not BAD Not Bad I still have to build mine but I'm looking for some detail kits for the inside Hangar Bay and some 1:350'th scale Fighters like the F 4 Wildcat and some of the early torpedo bombers .
I found it on Ebay. They pop up every now and then. As far as I can tell there were 2 prebuilt models. This one and the Midway version with Dauntless and Avengers.
USS Hornet CV-8 when she did the Doolittle Raid on Japan had 16 B-25 bombers on her flight deck. All sat aft starting at the end of the Island. And close packed together. You can Google photos of how they were parked on the flight deck. Those planes need to be glued down to the flight deck. The ship's boats. The largest are 50 foot motor launches. The smaller ones would be 20-30 foot motor launches. The boats with the deck houses are Captains Gigs. The smallest boat is a 26 foot motor whale boat. The one thing the model seems to be missing is the ship's regular fighter group of Douglas dauntless. These were in the ship's hanger deck with wings folded ready to be brought up to the flight deck once the B-25's had been launched. Hornet was still in enemy waters after the Doolittle raiders had been launched and she would had needed her fighters in case she was spotted and attacked.
Pls could I have the link to where you get the aircraft and other models from because ive tried looking on a lot of websites and couldn't find it thank you
Based on the hull being solid and it appearing relatively light I would say it stands a good chance of it floating on water. If not a thin piece if wood or plastic that it can be placed on would also suffice
VERY NICE...!..but at first sight I could dare to say that is a re-box of the same Trumpeter Hornet kit..with the same wrong molded hull..so why MERIT did not make an accurate Yorktown class hull in this case with the Hornet hull...? and...having their accurate ones USS Enterprise CV-6..? In fact this Hornet carrier kit ain't a MERIT product it doesn't look as far like their sisters Merit issues.
Really nice model and those b-25s look great as well but I think they got the scaling kinda off with the big life rafts, they are as big as the b-25s and I don't think there was ever any life raft the size of a medium bomber, also I'm surprized the b-25s can take off from a carrier, I thought only fighter aircraft and the c130 can take off from a carrier
This model depicts the Hornet as it was on the strike mission. When the Hornet sailed on the mission all fighters were below in the hanger. The deck was taken up by the B-25s. USS Enterprise provided air cover during the mission until the bombers flew off. So, no fighters to be seen.
I appreciate all of you watching my videos!

Always good when they turn out bigger than you thought they would be!!!!

That’s an awsome change of models, I’d love to see some tanks.
Excellent collection and outstanding video presentaion.
Loved the timing of an ad that popped up. Just as you opened the first white box, the ad cut in and showed a package being opened revealing.........bacon.
Small mitchells on the deck are sooo cute
So cool, I remember when I built mine from a model kit and made it into a rc boat talk about cool.
Hornet and enterprise the two ships that served their country well love those ships for ever and ever
U forgot the leader of there class USS Yorktown
@@jideamobi9555 facts but was York town the first of the 3 to be sunk? Not that it’s any less important
@@kenr3787 first to be sunk, but it took a lot to do it. You have to remember Yorktown was already damaged when the battle started.
This model aircraft carrier is amazing I love it!
Nice model of the famous ship on the famous mission. 👍
Nice review, the center line was moved so the B25 Did not strike the control tower island.
Awesome video and model 👌
Loved it 👌
I loved to see all toy model looks like real. It's really enjoying.
I saw the 1/10 scale yamato in japan. Man I’d love to have that sitting in my pool
Where did u get that? Do they have other ships?
Love how you're not just focusing on Aircraft, but branching out into other vehicles. Love the review! (Btw, its Error 404. Had to make a new account lol)
Now we need a 1/8 model of this, great video!
It is not a boat, it is a SHIP!
Very nice review!! Trumpeter also offers this ship as a kit in the same scale. You can buy the aircraft from Merit as the Doolittle raid or buy the trumpeter kits and find the decals on the aftermarket and make the aircraft way better looking and detailed.
Nice model with its details. Love those B-25s.
Seems lite on the detail. Can she float? Does it open into the interior at all even if it's hollow? I'm wondering if you can convert it to RC.
I love b25 mitchell
Sexy ass plane
Yeah yes xd
My father served on the USS Hornet CV-8
I would love to see a video of the MIG-15 North Korean version from 21st Century Toys!
Is there also something like an battleship of the iowa class?

I know, but you're right.
Imagine a 1:18 one for the corsair and the avenger.....
Haha! That would be HUGE! I’d dig it.
@@MilitaryVehicleReviews maybe it will be as big as a boat
Kantai Collection Hornet: wow, I don't belive my REAL Aircraft Carrier body just like this
Yeah I'm kinda shy when I see a model of my self
It's me again haha another great video on the channel! I'm already a fan :)
Great review. Just might get one myself. Keep up the great job!
where can I buy these??? please advise!!! only if the model was available in a larger 1/48 scale with intricate detail!!! yeah it would cost a bomb shell but will be worth it!!!

The real question is: does it float in water?

Dude I want this so bad and I’m 11 where do you get this?
CV-12 copy of the Hornet: do I look a bug of a joke to you

It depends on Who or where are you buy it from

Buen día, alguien me puede decir en la cdmx donde consigo comprar uno.
You where did you get that
How much did you pay for and how much is the USS Hornet
How much was this fine model ?
Where you bought it?
Where to buy?
Super ! :)
Where can I buy it in the czech republic
Fun fact: The USS Hornet was used to recover the Apollo 11 spacecraft, from the first moon landing with Niel Armstrong!
Different Hornet.
This was CV-8, that one was USS Hornet (CV-12).
Kinda strange to hear someone call a 770 ft long, 20,000 ton vessel with 2,200+ officers and crew....a "boat".
If you still buy them, why aren't they made in the USA?
Ware can I get this this is a neet carrier
Like video
Wish I had the money to buy some of these collectibles
No wild cats or Dauntless Dive bombers..........Likely a separate kit altogether............

Good job, but Carriers are ships, subs are boats.
