Thank you. Sound advice. The 8 oz. you saved in packaging means you can take an 8 oz. sleeping pad for better sleep or more food. I weigh everything that goes in my pack on my hiking trips.

Thanks. There’s a video on the kit I took to run the Danube that has some good stuff in it too.

That's an interesting strategy to do less mileage and use the race effectively as part of the training. I've heard the recommendation that a bit undertrained is better than overtrained, but it seems like you really embraced this.
Can you share any more specifics behind this approach? For example, what kind of miles did you run and what was a typical gym workout?
Thanks for all the info, lots of useful nuggets here even though MDS isn't on my TODO list.

Excellent video, just looking for a bit of advice mate. I found your advice on training very interesting, what sort of training where you doing? Were you mainly running and how many miles were you putting in per week and for how long leading up to it? - Cheers!

Hi mate… glad you enjoyed it. I did a lot of gym work for a good 3 months. 4 times a week getting lean and building leg strength. Dud hill rep sessions with my weighted pack on as well. Like an hour of repeats once a week. My overall mileage was quite low though.

Very sound advice and a wealth of knowledge. Here's 2 questions I have. Where are all the competitors from the states? I live in the midwest - considering taking this on. Secondly, unrelated, can you speak to how one "relieves" themself on the course or at the camp site --- sry if it's TMI, but as someone that's wrestled with GI issues, I want to know what I'm getting into ...

Hi, sorry I missed this one. I think maybe the price and logistics means fewer US runners do it but there were certainly people there when I ran. In terms of the toilet, there are temp 'toilets' in the camp site. Just a little tent cubicle with a seat that you attached a biodegradable bag to, to do your business. Plenty of people just wandered into the sand and squatted. Same deal on the course. Tip if you do it. Take a small amount of toilet roll and a handful of wipes.

Hi Mate, great video, did you have any challenges with taking vacuum sealed food onto the plane and through customs? Also how far in advance did vacuum seal the food before MDS? cheers

Hi Mike, had no troubles. Though I think I put my bag in the hold. I did all my vac packing during the week before I left. It was a big mission and I recommend enlisting help from a willing Sous Chef! 😂

Please send me information on how to register so as to participate in the Marathon de Sable, and tell me when the next one is going to be held. I do wish to know what is up for grabs there: The prize.
