Dear Paul; Of all the love songs I've heard in this life-time, this is the most haunting, beautiful, painful and intense I've ever heard. And your transcription really is the best. Thank you dear Paul. Thank you for all the pain.............. thank you for all the love. CVD
Tears of joy, ecstasy and overwhelming happiness fill my eyes and heart when listening to this performance. Now I want the full orchestral version. Thank you!!!!
Paul, How is the first note on the bass clef in measures 13, 14, and 15 supposed to be played? Is the lower C note optional? Your play makes it sound so smooth. How are you playing them in your video?
2:03 WOW, this is what plays when Scrat goes to heaven at the end of Ice Age: The Meltdown. I've been wondering what it was for the past 13 years, and I've finally found it!
Starting at 2:02, any tips for the large rolls you have to do at the beginning of each bar? Ex. measure 30, Db-F,Db in the bass, do you just roll really fast or just play the low Db. When the theme comes back at measure 128 it gets even more complicated since some of them are entire chords and a bass note.
I really love this piece and how you arranged the piece of Khachaturian also... I really hope to have the score for myself so i can play it, but unfortunately i cannot find the score anymore from the link that you put in the description. So i kindly ask you where i can find it since i could not find any by googling.
Dear Paul; I really love your piano transcription of this theme... and I want one. If you would be so kind, could you tell me how to get one. I've loved this theme for over 40 years... and you did such a beautiful job. Thank you ahead time. Charles V. Davis
C'est la superbe musique qui est reprise dans le film '' Caligula '' de Tinto Brass. C'est également dans ce film, en ouverture, qu'on retrouve la musique magnifique de Prokofiev en ouverture, de Roméo et Juliette.
This is so beautiful, Paul. Could you please do a master class on the Khachaturian Toccata ? How I would like it to be is the last few bars are slow and not so flashy as everyone else plays it.
Mr. Paul, how can I attain a copy of the arrangement? You have done a phenomenal work, and it will be an honor to practice and present your arrangement for public in Los Angeles.
What to say? To be lonely and to walk in this wonderful Dark and cold night near beach.. to squeze this Cold Clouds to look at the Ship's light.. to remember "ONIDIN LINE" to remain my lost Childhood...Allways to Dream To Get Sail and Hug The Wonderful Stars.. And to see The Light from Old Jaffa...
My guess is it's part of the original piano transcription made for ballet rehearsal. It's the only arrangement I could find that wasn't simplified and I edited it to make a short solo piece for my wife on Valentine's day.
Your recording is beautiful -- I'm a big fan of your channel, by the way! I had never heard this work before, and your recording inspired me to start learning it. I was just curious as to the score you used, as it had no attribution whatsoever, so I was thinking it must have been transcribed by Khachaturian himself? There is a transcription by Matthew Cameron (published by Schirmer I believe) which is by no means simplified -- it has a generally-arpeggiated accompaniment and fully-voiced chords throughout (you can find links to the score online, though no edition of this work is public domain -- also, there is a TH-cam video of Cameron performing it). I would be curious to know your thoughts on a comparison of the two...
Pressing Keys Have you looked at the sheet music from the PDF link to Scorser in the info? I downloaded my PDF from a link from www.UNESCO.org this is the version I used in my arrangement. If your search "Spartacus" "PDF" "UNESCO" you get there also.
***** Yes, I have seen the PDF, which prompted my original question, as there is no credit given to a transcriber on the score, which I thought was rather odd. I was hoping you would know if that was Khachaturian's himself. ;) I currently have the Cameron transcription on order -- it seems a little "thin" in the first couple statements of the main theme, but the arpeggios are great -- makes it feel like more of a piano work, IMHO.
Pressing Keys No, I'm sorry I don't know, but if you find out please let me know. Yes, I know what you mean Cameron's excellent arrangement, the arpeggios making the work seem more like a piano work rather than a transcription.
Lovely arrangement, realised with an extra hand (or two) or some judicious multi-tracking. Beautifully done. A bit of a shame the last 8 bars were truncated though.
Sorry, 123, you've got the wrong singer! Paul McCartney of the Beatles used this melody to write the lyrics to their their hit "Til There Was You" (1964) "There were bells on a hill and I never heard them ringing, no I never heard them at all til there was you" Later Sinatra and a host of other singers did cover songs of the Beatles hits. The song "Yesterday" by McCartney holds the record for most recorded "cover song" Every singer recorded this hit throughout the 1960s.

This is a marvellous arrangement, Paul! Captures all the main voices and with natural pianistic drama.

I've had a compressed 3pp arrangement of this as the theme for the TV show, The Onedin Line, which shouldn't be too hard to find.
