    It does make compete sense.
    Different reference markers are for common indicated and industry standard spacing - for things like studs, joists, trusses, and standard size material sheets.
    Most brands have specific tapes for each industry - ie: a builder vs a roofer.
    You purchased a STUD tape, which, logically would have drywall spacing, and reference marks for stud work.
    If you only need length only - consider laser measurement. Bosch or Stabila make excellent options.

    Thank you for the useful review. The place where I am living, we need both units continuously, as materials and dimensions comes in mixed unit … 😊

    I don't like a wide overhang on the sides of the hook, as often I need to run the blade of the tape parallel to the edge of an object and an overhang can make that difficult. I specifically bought this one because of its smaller hook. My last one was stolen after four years of use and its huge hook was the only thing I didn't like about it. Mine's in metric only and it doesn't have the 400mm issue yours has. It's easily the best tape I've ever owned.

      Thanks for the comment, the more I use my tape the more I miss my old one. Not being able to get a good hook on material and the fact the tape is wider which makes it easy to roll over for me makes this tape almost impossible to get on with

    The first issue of the Milwaukee magnetic tapes were by far better than anything that came since. I still have one that I bought 4/5 years ago but it's since been retired from daily use. The one you have there was greatly slimmed down. As for the stud tapes the only people who seem to rate them highly online, didn't pay for them. I've been using the Stanley Fatmax tapes again the last couple of years and can't fault them.

      I may get one and make a comparison video, this tape fails on some simple features

    Excellent detailed review and great to see the second half of the video once you had used it and the short comings of the tape. One thing you didn't highlight that was on both tapes but isn't on all tapes is the "finger hole" underneath which allows you to hold the tape out rather than locking it.
    RE: Black diamonds:
    "Black Diamonds
    By far the most common question asked by our customers is “what do the little black diamonds mean?” Even though they’re not commonly used in the UK, these marks are still worth explaining.
    The black diamonds, as they’re commonly called (sometimes shown as black circles instead), are actually stud or joist marks. Whilst not featuring on all tapes, stud marks frequently appear at 16” intervals and joist marks at 19.2” intervals.
    The centre of one stud is generally positioned 16 inches from the centre of the stud before it - hence the 16” stud mark. Joists, on the other hand, are generally spaced 19.2” inches from the centre of the joist before it. Whilst this may seem to be a pretty odd measurement, many American building materials (such as boarding etc.) typically come in 8ft lengths. 19.2” divides perfectly (5 times) into 8ft."

      Wow that is a gret comment, thanks for taking the time to add the detail. I hope Milwaukee are watching, they need to make region specific tapes becouse this isn't working for me. As I have had even more time to use the tape, 5m really isn't long enough I'd like 10m

      @@bodgeitwithbrian We would all like a bit longer length ;-) Glad the info I included was useful, it was new info to me as I have wondered for ages what all the markings on a tape are for now I know (tomorrow I will forget hahaha).
      Keep up the great content on the channel.

    The black diamonds are for spacing I-beams. They are every 19 3/16". 16" is highlighted for stud layout so I assume that is why 40m is different for 50, 60, ect. I've never used a metric tape before so just guessing on the last part.

    • @bodgeitwithbrian
      @bodgeitwithbrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      AHH good info. I have to say this tape is terrible, the old version was much better

  • @PTFPhoto
    @PTFPhoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In imperial countries, the 16" mark is the common spacing for wall studs. So for us it is massively important. The diamond at 19.2 (or 19 3/16") is a common layout for rafters in residential construction, so again quite important. Sheet goods (plywood, etc.) are typically sold in 8ft long sheets. So 16", 24", and 19.2", all break evenly at 8ft. Thus all common marking systems on an imperial tape break on the common 8ft measurement.

      @bodgeitwithbrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And hence the reason why the tape is called stud, haha got it. Great comment, thaks

    • @PTFPhoto
      @PTFPhoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bodgeitwithbrian If you pull that tape to 8ft, you'll see the black marking (foot), red marking (16"), and the diamond (19.2") all coincide.

    I've also noticed that the gen 2 does not hook things very well. The metal is rounded off on the edges making it slip off material you are trying to hook.
    Also the slack on the hook is too stiff so you have to keep manually pushing it in or out depending on whether you are hooking or butting. Overall I do like the tape and would buy again I just hope Milwaukee will continue to tweak and improve these things.

    Actually using 2 different scale on a 1 tape is totally dumb. I always use both edges depends on the situation, arrangement, position etc. Not mentioned those when you want to use 2 side marking method.

    Why would you buy a tape that is both imperial and metric and then complain the metric is not on your preferred side....
    You made the error Brian not researching what you were buying. You then make a (boring video) to moan about it. 😂
    Who has the time to make a 10 min review about a tape measure.....?

    • @bodgeitwithbrian
      @bodgeitwithbrian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably the type.of person who replies to comments in the middle of the night. Hahaha It's very common for tapes to have both in the UK. The purpose for having both is many materials are still imperial so it's easier to work with. Apart from that one personal preference, this tape is not an improvement over the previous generation regardless. It's a Lennon

  • @stillasgoodasnew

    Don't buy the milwaukee gen 2 tape measure it's absolutely rubbish, when pushing the tape measure out just a metre or so and you tilt the tape slightly it always twists and flops down its crap and hook on the end is awful it always slips off. It's a pain in the proverbial.
