I never realized that detail in The Grey! It really adds a sudtle ounce of emotion with the glimmer in his eye in that scene. Simple, yet indeed powerful.
I dropped a like on this one because it's the first episode in a long time that felt like classic FilmRiot. I think you guys are creeping back into form after a sort of hiatus from extended projects. Good show, folks!
You guys said you were going to up the quality of film riot at the beginning of this year and you have definitely delivered in my opinion. Great job guys!
Ryan Connolly, you have been an inspiration since I first learned how to add muzzle flashes. 5 years later I still find myself watching in complete interest. You and Freddie Wong would make an awesome team. #Intercept?
Many have pointed this out, but..... You're episodes are getting better and better, it really reminds me of some older episodes :DAnyway... I hope you are having fun doing it! Keep up the AWESOME WORK guys :) Oh and ... moshing C-stands xD
Other tips for C stands. 1. If possible, try to not use them outside. They are ok for small things like 2x3 fags and 4x4 flags. I wouldn't use them outside for anything heavier or something that could get picked up by the wind easier (4x4 (or bigger) frames with diffusion, gels and rags). 2. If possible, try to keep your stands clean. This means as compact as possible. A lot of people "arm out" because they think it's faster or they just think it's cooler. Even when under slinging, it's easy to keep the stand clean and without points going everywhere. If there is no other way to get the arm in place other than arming out, then its ok to do it, but it should be your last resort. 3. When extending the risers always extend the top one first. It should be an obvious thing, but a lot of people forget. 4. This tip could be used for other things, not only C stands. When going around a corner or entering a door way, or if you are flying in gear and there is a lot of people on your way. Yell, "Points" and or "Corner" if you're going around a corner. This works as a warning to everyone around you and prevents a lot of injuries.
Hi Film Riot team! I'm shooting a project where two characters kiss by a river at night and the director would like fireflies to appear and take off (out of focus) in the background. Now, I don't have time to rangle hundreds of fireflies so I was hoping you guys could show me how much I need to achieve in camera to be able to pull this off in post. Thank you, and keep up the amazing, life changing work you've been doing for so long. Francesco.
Please put more of Emily in film riot she is my favorite film right character and seeing her sit there and eat pizza I was like oh my gosh are they going to put her in another short film or episode of film riot I really hope so please bring back more of Emily I love you Emily
I love these awesome tips. Right now though I have only one question and that is what lens should I upgrade to because I am using the canon T3i or should I upgrade my camera instead? If anyone knows that would be such a huge help.
I have to... 1:52 Tips 2.1 -Don't purchase the the twist base, purchase the turtle base. Leveling them is not common, or you use a combo stand with leveling leg (rocky mountain leg) and if you really need to balance a turtle base c-stand in that rare instance, apple box. Also, turtle base c-stands are even more portable as you simply un-screw the base and the stand will fit much more easily into vehicles (I have a _ton_ of experience with that, unfortunately). I admit my bias, but stand by my view.
Blackmagic is Illuminati. They will eat your children, and if don't have any, they'll force you to breed with crack addicted sub-Keisha lookalikes. PM me for more info
Aidan Flaherty I've been shooting on the Pocket for 2 years. Blackmagic is a polarizing company. They take a long time to ship, there's various issues with the newer cameras and they're quirky. I love the pocket. It's extremely quirky and munches through batteries faster than tubbo through twinkies but once you shoot 10 bit color and grade it with 13 stops of dynamic range you'll never go back to the dark ages of DSLRs. If you want to see a few short films shot entirely with the Pocket on my channel, check out "Pop Cops", "Dino Chickens" or "Not Home Alone"
Dear Ryan, I had my first college Film 101 lab a few days ago. First lab was on lightning and C-Stands. You literally covered everything that my professor covered lol. Oh, Justin's back. Sup dude!
+Firewheeler Hehe, I'm just glad to be young and hearing all this information! 30 years from now when I'm in my forties, I can only imagine the things I'll know and the places I've been! Thanking the Lord for this channel and for the awesome resource of the internet.
You should always have the handle down when you place your bags. that way the handle is up when you kick them off, also it's harder to get snagged and trip on them.
Hey you sexy beast! Are you going to be reviewing the Canon 5d Mark IV? I'm looking to upgrade from my Rebel T4i, I'm really stuck between the Mark IV or the 1DX Mark ii
Top tip. Try to ware a white shirt over a black t shirt on set. Then you have extra fill and negative fill for each occasion and don't have to get topless. Also Style.
I'm a beginner film director. Do you think that doing everything ur self is good such as writing, directing, producing and screenplaying. What are the pros and cons. thank!
That outro was AMAZING! Whoever decided to add the extra element deserves a 6 pack of high fives.
I gave it a like just for the outro 👍
"6 pack of high fives" is my new favorite
The gags were especially great today! Keep up the good work guys!

I dropped a like on this one because it's the first episode in a long time that felt like classic FilmRiot. I think you guys are creeping back into form after a sort of hiatus from extended projects. Good show, folks!

Awesome episode. Can we get some more lighting and camera movement episodes? Or can someone make a playlist of such episodes?
Great tips!

What Camera would you suggest for a shortfilm/ Web series?
4 more days left until we have to wait another year for intercept
Don't be that guy. haha
I love these awesome tips. Right now though I have only one question and that is what lens should I upgrade to because I am using the canon T3i or should I upgrade my camera instead? If anyone knows that would be such a huge help.
the lens is always more important than the camera. 50 mm is good when your doing dialoge stuff.
+Jo He thanks. I was thinking of getting the sigma 17-50 mm 2.8 lens since it covers a lot more shots.
I have to...

Have you guys ever tried using a Blackmagic camera before? I would love to see an episode on that. Also can you give me a bammie wham? Thanks

Hahah! Awesome. :)
That song at the end. Swerve!
I don't even do video making. I just like watching your jokes.
That sponsor time was the flying f*ck'n best!
I made a jib from my c stand and with some diy you can have it exact as a jib with rotation and so on.
Who else has never heard of a C-Stand before now?
me right here
lol
I used to think I was knowledgable about film stuff until I found this channel...
+Firewheeler Hehe, I'm just glad to be young and hearing all this information! 30 years from now when I'm in my forties, I can only imagine the things I'll know and the places I've been! Thanking the Lord for this channel and for the awesome resource of the internet.

Film riot. I Luhhh You. That is all.

Thumbs up for the outro. LMAO!!!
You should always have the handle down when you place your bags. that way the handle is up when you kick them off, also it's harder to get snagged and trip on them.
Honda Elements ARE THE BEST!!!!!!! I have an 04'.
Hey you sexy beast! Are you going to be reviewing the Canon 5d Mark IV? I'm looking to upgrade from my Rebel T4i, I'm really stuck between the Mark IV or the 1DX Mark ii
Can you please make a video about good flat looking fonts for video/film. Like for titles you used in Bar Brawl. Or the movie rocky handsome.
Top tip. Try to ware a white shirt over a black t shirt on set. Then you have extra fill and negative fill for each occasion and don't have to get topless. Also Style.
Hahahaha the end of this video though. xD
I'm a beginner film director. Do you think that doing everything ur self is good such as writing, directing, producing and screenplaying. What are the pros and cons. thank!
it has its benefits but sometimes working with others can give you ideas that you never thought would never work
The end was so funny
