I watched Mystery Island every Saturday! I always knew P.O.P.S. was the LIS robot! No matter what they did to him, die hard fans could recognize him. Great video!
That is so awesome :-) I never caught the show and it was actually on TV, but when I saw pictures of it in starlog magazine I knew something was definitely up :-) Dan
Great series so far. Looking forward to a few longer episodes and deep dives. The chariot, the weapons, changes to the campsite set, toys/model kits, the Innovation comic book line - keep ‘em coming!
Yeah, this was just a short one :-) I have one dropping tomorrow about how Lost in Space got started with Irwin allen, kind of a deep dive. I'm working on the other videos, it just takes forever LOL thanks for writing :-) Dan
I don't have a lot of information about what happened to it, it was pretty much just torn down at the end of the show. But I do have information about it while it was erected. Stay tuned :-)
I remember the first time watching Mystery Island and thinking, wait a second, something here looks strangely familiar LOL thanks for writing hope you had a great holiday :-) Dan
Cool tech! I remember the show, and the robot. Yes, those small led lights in the center of the panel were only on the market in about the early eighties. The look of aluminum, plastic and yellowing epoxy glue is the same as the inside of the R2D2 dome of the same age. Great find!
I'm blown away at the professionalism and interesting topics I've found here. This is the only channel that I follow for every new release. Well done Dan. I appreciate your endeavors!
I have wondered about The Chariot. The robot from Saturn 3 with Farrah Fawcet was terrifying. Hector I think. Big blue & red hoses and hydraulics and a head on a crane like arm. And a brain in a cylinder to control it. I have NEVER seen a figure of it or so much as a reference to it. Its so obscure now.
I say we find the person who authorized B9’s alteration and scream in his or her ear. Who’s with me? But I’m glad you have that tangential bit of his history, Dan! Keep up the great work!
Agreed! And some working over with a wet noodle or wiffle bat would be in order too! 🤣 I remember seeing that abomination back then and recognizing it for what it was and hating it like all get out! I also agree this little board is a very neat piece of history to have, best viewable as it is as a separate piece NOT ATTACHED to the B9 we all know and love! :)
Love your channel, Dan. Big fan of Lost In Space and our fave robot. But it has me wondering what ever happened to the female evil robot that B 9 fell in love with? Any idea where she is or if she even exists? Keep up the great work.
Hey :-) thanks for writing. That particular robot got refurbished into other set pieces. You can actually see it lying around in other Lost in Space shows. It was probably just discarded like most of the props back then, which were not considered valuable. If I come across anything I'll let you know :-) thanks and Merry christmas, Dan
Speaking of Saturday morning... any info on how the animated special came about? Specifically what the initial plans were as there's concept art floating online depicting a much more faithful version...
Hi Dan. So glad you were able to get this piece of history before time rotted it away. Tho I never seen this series, it was a part of good ol B9. Thanks.
Hey there :-) Mystery Island was a really silly children show that didn't last very long. There might be some clips on youtube. Other than the robot being in it, I had no interest lol
Hey Dan, I am loving your videos. I remember reading an article in STARLOG on the B9 robot and as I recall it said MYSTERY ISLAND was made in Australia. Was that correct? Also, if I may ask, how much did you pay for the chest piece?
Enjoying everything you have posted so far, very well crafted. Would like to suggest a topic- The connection between Lost in Space and Planet of the Apes. Both filmed on the 20th Century lot at the same time. Lots of crossovers with makeup , props, etc, Any photos or cast antidotes about this time two great entertainments tan side by side? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Hey, thanks so much for writing :-) I actually have a lot of Planet of the Apes stuff coming in the new year. I'm trying to get a lot of the Lost in Space stuff out of the way, that seems to be what launch the channel. Great suggestion and I will definitely do some Lost in Space one of the Apes crossovers :-) Merry Christmas:-) Dan
I always wondered how on "Mystery Island" they were able to pull the robot with people standing on his skirt. It seems like he would topple over really easily, but on the show he moves/glides so well. Great channel, love the Robot!
Hey, thanks so much for the comment. I'm not really sure, the new pedestal they put on and is really big so it might have had some very large tires underneath :-)
Well you have to remember, props back in the day weren't considered anything collectible. They were tools to be used. I'm sure they paid Fox money to alter the robot and use him. I'm sure the Mystery Island people were afraid that if they didn't alter him, people would think they were watching Lost in Space LOL
@@MoviesMusicMonsters a story i remember is when george lucas was filming TPM, he painted the original landspeeder green to be used as a background prop. i'm not sure if that's true, but imagine such an iconic piece of cinema history being vandalized even by the owner in an era of high collecting.
Thats great,Im watching on dvd Voyage to the bottom of the sea,so much buttons blinking lights and things like your panel, was any voyage to the bottom stuff used on lost in space ?
Love your work, Dan, always great to see something new from you. Quick question, your set piece (B&W variation?) B9 in the lower right corner of the frame, is that a customized? Almost looks like a Diamond Select...
Hey, thank you so much :-) that is a toy from a company called Masadaya, it's vinyl and came out in the '80s. They also did a robbie. It's about 16 in tall.
Interesting that in some of the shots of the panel in the robot, the three lights in a row were on the top, in other shots, the three lights are on the bottom.
Dan, I see you have an Original Remco and Masudaya Lost in Space Robot . You should do a Video on your collection of Memorabilia , could be a Fun Video.
Love the channel, keep up the interesting material. In the category music, something about Fillmore East and West along with East Town Theater in Detroit.
Special effects engineer John Stears did the R2 and the James bond Aston Martin.. Your panel may be made by him or his shop. Similar construction style at a time of very few prop makers.
You were just over 1k in subs the other day, now you are closing in on 9. Wish I had half your content. Then I could monetize my channel. Great stuff and a mind-blowing collectable.
Yeah I know, it's really amazing. Kind of a fluke everything went nuts all at once but I'm happy :-) thanks so much for the comment and the support :-) Dan

I am a big admirer of people who save and rescue articles of movie and TV show memorabilia.
Hey, thanks so much. :-) Dan
When I first saw Mystery Island, I thought: WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THE ROBOT! (sorry for the all caps lol)
So did I and I stopped watching! 😢
That was my immediate thought when I saw Mystery Island.
Can you a video on what happened to the full scale mock up jupiter2?
I don't have a lot of information about what happened to it, it was pretty much just torn down at the end of the show. But I do have information about it while it was erected. Stay tuned :-)
I remember Mystery Island and loved the robot in it. I never realized it was the same robot as the one from Lost in Space!
I remember the first time watching Mystery Island and thinking, wait a second, something here looks strangely familiar LOL thanks for writing hope you had a great holiday :-) Dan
WOW amazingly cool, I can’t imagine how happy you are owning that piece of B9 history 👍🏻
Thanks, it's quite the amazing thing :-)

Dan, I think you must be channeling Steve Allen's voice. I see you and hear Steve....love your show!
"It still lights up and blinks"

I have a pic on an old phone somewhere of the part of it under the head that also doubled as the scanner on the J2. It was all battered and dented.
Speaking of Saturday morning... any info on how the animated special came about? Specifically what the initial plans were as there's concept art floating online depicting a much more faithful version...
Let me see what I can find out :-)
Ok, you got me. I've subscribed. BTW, you have one of the best radio voices I have ever heard. It is certainly a gift.

That would be a cool piece to have! I remember watching Mystery Island as a kid and thinking that robot looks awfully familiar!
Really? I don't remember that show being on at all. That is so cool that you remember it :-) Dan
It looks like they were going for R2D2 vibes with that color scheme.
Very cool prop piece! 🤖

My biggest question is what the heck went through their minds when they decided to vandalize B9 so badly instead of just using him as he was?

Hello Dan, Thanks for sharing another great story on Lost in Space. I like to wish you a wonderful 🎄Christmas and a happy New Year. 🥂🍾
What ever happened to the robot in the Lost in Space movie?
Nice find. I remember Mystery Island. I wonder if the POPS robot ever got marketed.
I was a huge LIS fan as a kid but never saw that Mystery Island show. It's a travesty what they did to our poor robot!!
I agree :-) there might be some episodes on youtube, I'm not sure take a look. Thanks for writing :-) Dan
this is great, what you are doing, MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND!!!!!!
Thats really cool! Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for the support :-) more content coming soon :-) Dan
Looking forward to the 'Soylent Green" episode you promised.
It's on my list :-) stay tuned
Having the chest panel. Just so cool! Thanks for sharing 😎
Your show reminds me of creature, features old 70s TV movie show.👍🏻
Thanks again Dan, that's a pretty cool piece of history! Merry Christmas
Cool stuff Dan, as usual!👍👍 Which Jupiter 2 is that in the background? I've got a couple going all the way back to Lunar Models, among others. Chuck
Hey chuck, thanks for writing. That is the trendmasters from the 90s. I have a whole bunch that I'm going to do videos on soon :-) thanks so much, Dan
How much did it go for on eBay? Did they list it as the robot panel? Was it listed as a lost in space item or mystery Island piece?
It was listed as lost in space, probably 15 or 20 years ago. I think I paid about $400 for it way back then.
@MediaMasterDesign that's fascinating. The stuff you find on ebay!
Interesting that in some of the shots of the panel in the robot, the three lights in a row were on the top, in other shots, the three lights are on the bottom.
Does anyone make a good 1:12 scale (6") B9 or Robby the Robot action figure?
Look on ebay. There are tons of robot toys, old various sizes that were available throughout the 90s and early 2000s.
Dan, what was the winning bid for that chest plate?
Dan, I see you have an Original Remco and Masudaya Lost in Space Robot . You should do a Video on your collection of Memorabilia , could be a Fun Video.
Very cool.
I'll have to check out mystery island.
That's a cool find. Excellent cast!
What a cool find! Thanks for sharing. Love your videos!
Thanks so much :-) Dan

Very cool ! Say Dan can you look into THE INVADERS? Tanks and love the channel

An old solder junkies dream. So cool.
Would you consider doing a show on First Men in the Moon?

@@Super_Bros. - Yeah, but his content is earning subs. You can't say that for everyone getting visibility.
It's that sexy voice I betcha.
Just to satisfy our curiosity, would you be willing to share how much you paid for that item?
If I remember correctly, I paid about $400 for it 15 or 20 years ago.
@@MoviesMusicMonsters Wow, great find! If would be interesting, but most likely unknowable to learn of how it ended up on eBay.
Actually I do have that information. I reached out to the guy who sold it to me who ended up being a robot builder from years ago.
I know not many people like the 1998 move robot design but does anyone know where it is today?
I wonder who's secreting away the original part in their collection or if it was thrown out....
I don't recall Lost In Space. Perhaps it wasn't shown in my country of origin ?
Have you interest in _Space 1999_ ?
One of my favorite TV shows of all time. Here in the states, I watched it in 1974. Lost in Space ran for 3 years, ending in 1968.
Awesome, thanks 🙏 😁
Thank you :-) Merry Christmas Dan
lost in space 4ever............
I could be wrong, but didn't Star Wars use that piece in middle of Darth Vader's belt? 🤔
Veru cool!
Neat! : )
