    So, Peak Design saw this video and they emailed me a couple bits of info about the play in the ARCA connection the plate removal:
    From the PD team:
    To cut down on any wiggle of the plate, the screw is meant to be attached to the ARCA plate (5:18)
    When removing the plate, it is best to use the embedded tool for easy and quick removal (5:44)
    Here’s an instructional video the team put together for Micro Clutch that helps outline some of these best practices: bit.ly/3oLagBF

      Just what I was gonna say. I've seen their video. Of you can pull that bottom piece off by hand, it will eventually come loose when you don't expect it because the force applied when using it is in the same direction you just slid it to remove it. Always use their little screwdriver/wrench. You really only need to loosen it enough to slow you to twist the bottom piece aside to expose the battery. But you DO need to loosen and tighten the screw with the tool.

    Hi, Brett. I have Peak Design's CL-3 hand strap on my R5. I don't use that plate like you have because I have an L bracket mounted. The strap's bottom loop is attached to the loop on the L bracket. I can change the battery easily by just flipping the strap away from the battery door.
    On occasions of extended hand-holding shoots, like family events or street shooting, the clutch is very handy (so to speak 😉). The R5 is easy to hold anyway; but with the strap, I can relax my hand when not shooting. My only issue is that it's hard to access the top dial to change shutter speed; my index finger is pretty much locked atop the shutter button. So if I have to change settings frequently, I just grip the camera over the strap without removing it. It's not in the way at all.

    A company as big as PD do they really need to kick start a product?

    • @greengraycolor
      @greengraycolor ปีที่แล้ว

      It's their choice to promote new products and build community. I guess, it allows them to rump up production and sales faster and with less uncertainty than with no Kickstarter.

      Creates a buzz and with the limited time discount people feels an urgency to buy.

      At this point, it's just a marketing strategy.

    I bought one of these thinking that it might be better than the Small Rig plate I had on my Fuji T-X5. The Small Rig plate has integrated Arca Plate and access to the battery without removing the plate. Having seen no upside to the Peak Design plate compared to the SmallRig version, it has now been relegated to the "drawer of regrettable purchases". Anyhow, I'm sure it serves a purpose for others but certainly had too many design issues for my liking. Great review BTW.

    When I got the email about the kickstarter I immediately went to check it out, because I've been wanting a grip strap for my RP and this seemed like it'd do the job nicely. But, the base plate is what killed the sale for me -- no battery access without finagling with the plate was a huge deal breaker.

    • @Photojouralist123
      @Photojouralist123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly can’t imagine every time you want to change batteries you gotta take the base plate off.

    Doesn't look like the type of thing that I would use. When I first got my R5, I went months without any type of strap at all. Finally I decided to try the cheap neoprene wrist strap that came as a free "bonus" with my Tamron 150-600 lens. I love it. It gives me just enough extra peace of mind, plus it does have the quick release clippy bit so that I can take it off when on a tripod. Considering I rarely ever put my neck straps around my neck, but rather just wrapped them around my wrist, this is perfect.

    I am a double micro clutch backer and discovered POST their KS campaign that there is no way to attach other carrier systems (Cotton Carrier / Spider Monkee &/or Pro) to either the plate itself nor the square tripod plate. I think Peak missed this but perhaps they didn't so one is forced to include their capture device. If so very clever so they get additional sales for their product BUT it's a little frustrating as I really like using my existing Spider Pro plate via my hip or Cotton Carrier Skout on my chest.
    Had they included a 1/4 inch internal thread made within the arca Swiss plate it would of been a much better option as PD would no doubt miss out on sales because of it. Had I of picked this design flaw up PRIOR to backing it on KS I may have given it a miss.
    Either way I'll still use BOTH clutches as I ordered TWO (one for my Fuji xt body and the other for my Fujifilm Pro4 when it finally drops in late 23 / early 2024.
    Any thoughts from others in the same boat as me on this?

    I’ve backed this to use on my R8 or M6II and for the discount on regular PD products. I really like PD, but I do wait for discounts before buying :)

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, anytime I can get discounts on their stuff, it makes much more plausibly affordable for me too, lol. Having so many bags as I do and wanting to have the capture clip on all of them plus the base plates for all my cameras really adds up!

    I own and love many of Peak Design's products. However, blocking the battery door is making this PD Micro a no go for me. Having to free the base plate with a tool (provided and imbedded in the base plate) just is too troublesome. Brent, the demo of of using the magnetic on off of the base plate does seem a little better way to access the battery compartment. I supposed I should give it a chance.

  • @rbr6852

    I had the capture on a Nikon P900, and the small surface of the capture against a body made of plastic did not go well. It broke of the bottom of the camera.

  • @RayneDr0ps

    I have the original PD Clutch, and while I love it, I do wish I could remove it quicker than I can, there a lot of times where it's just a annoying to shoot with it attached. This base plate is a neat idea, I don't like that it covers the battery compartment, but it did seem like you could remove it quickly and easily, so might not be the end of the world if, like me, you're not mounted to a tripod for the majority of your shooting time. That said, the strap itself on this one doesn't look nearly as comfortable as it's bigger sibling.

    I just bought the clutch, wrist strap, full slide, 10L sling and messenger bag. I'm using the wrist strap and cloth together because of you're in a place where someone or a dog could knock the camera out of your hand purposely or accidentally then the wrist strap will keep your heart from falling to the ground and is a bit of an anti-theft strap... not if they have a knife to cut the strap but at least something. I was at a dog park with a friend last October and his dog ran by and knocked my EOS R with battery grip and 24-105mm F4 lens to the ground. Nothing broken but I'm not making that mistake again. The wide slide is just more comfortable.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      OH nice! I've really been liking the 10L sling, but I think I might be interested in getting the messenger too, for when I want just a bit more carrying capacity and still not use an actual backpack. I think a clutch style strap would probably help in that scenario you mentioned too.

    • @spidersj12
      @spidersj12 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrentHall The messenger bag like the 30L daypack v2 isn't as sealable weather wise as the 10L sling, so it's a bag that is great for good weather.

    Thanks for pointing out the obvious that I missed the installing this clutch. About the easy slider to access the battery compartment on my R5 & R6. However I would like it to be more secure than the current design. The strap feel cheap and the old style from them was far better in term of strength and security. Properly won't use it, Felt like its a waste of money.

  • @gilcarag274
    @gilcarag274 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not directly integrating their capture clip into the base plate? Would make it both arca swiss and PD clip compatible at the same time.

  • @snyggmikael
    @snyggmikael ปีที่แล้ว

    So does the clutch quickplate from Peak design support Arca swiss or not? xD

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're talking about the actual micro clutch metal plate, no that is not arca swiss compatible. That's why they made that magnetic plate attachment that slips in for their PD quick release system. With that then attached, it will work with all their mounting and quick release stuff, as well as arca swiss tripods and mounts.

  • @adjake1
    @adjake1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am a fan of PD stuff, this one is a miss to me. @peak design please offer a bigger wrist strap. The wrist strap is my preferred way to secure my camera it's just a little small for my hands but I make it work.....almost forgot, find a way for your capture clip arca adapter to lock in so it can't twist.

      @@BrentHall yeah, i feel like they seem like nice hearted people.. especially considering that they started as a crowd funded company, i was just trolling hehe.
