Oregon has one of the highest rates of chronic HCV among states in the US and has reported significant associated mortality. Since 2000, HCV-related mortality rates in Oregon have nearly tripled and have consistently been higher than the national average.
The Oregon Viral Hepatitis Collective was formed 7 years ago to respond to this public health crisis in Oregon. The Collective includes members of the Oregon Health Department, Healthcare Providers, community members and other stakeholders who are interested in addressing viral hepatitis prevention, testing, and care. The Collective has established action steps to eliminate hepatitis C infection in Oregon.
The 2023 Oregon Viral Hepatitis Collective Annual Meeting focused on the New State Elimination Plan and the micro-elimination work being performed across the syndemic in Oregon. Participants included community members concerned about hepatitis, community-based agencies working with people living with or at risk of hepatitis infection, local health departments, hepatologists, primary care clinics, substance use treatment programs, syringe exchange programs, corrections health and more.
