No your not you just had more words to say and you accidentally say it was hisada but can you do the broly second coming because he’s canon now and more badass please
@@Sandy-ug6dj the next Super Supervisors video was meant to be on Ide. It's become a meme at this point that Ajay won't make and/ or release the video.
I love your animation breakdown and seeing a 20 minute video of it, just made me so much happy. Since you covered the broly movie, I do hope that you do an animation breakdown on either the bardock specials and/or the gogeta movie.
dunno why everyone hates the plot of Broly so much, it's not that bad. The Paragus/Saiyan backstory side to it is pretty well done, and Broly is more of a plot device than a character. The whole baby Goku crying thing is stupid as all hell though.
I'd go further and would even argue that Broly and Paragus have the most fleshed out backstory and motivations as well as the most interesting dynamics of any of the movie villains. Pretty much every other movie villain just wants to take shit over because or has a very simplistic revenge goal (cooler avenging freeza, 13/14/15 avenging gero, etc), wheras Paragus and Broly have a lot more going on with their vengence plan and backstory, and, being two characters, play off each other narratively. As far as i'm concerned people only shit on them because they misunderstand tthe whole goku crying thing (broly doesn't hate goku for crying, the crying is merely a triggr for existing mental instability, as Paragus states), look at broly in isolation as a character instead of him as a pair with his father, and forget that Broly actually talked and had a personality in his first film.
@@MajoraZ Great points. I wouldn't say Broly had much of a personality though, but I think that him being nothing but an insane killing machine works in the context of everything else. Paragus trying to control Broly's power with his device clearly screwed his son up mentally, just look at his face in his base form. He looks completely out of it. Broly wasn't meant to be this epic badass saiyan like a lot of snobbish fans make him out to be when criticising the movie, he's portrayed as a psychotic killer who no longer has any proper reasoning from being emotionally repressed for all those years.
@@Timothan I mean it's not much of a personality, but it's there at least vs in subsequent movies and games where all he does is scream Kakarott, which is all people remember him for. His sadistic lust for battle and in the first film may not be complex but it's not any less complex then most other villians in the series, and it's entertaining.
@@MajoraZ dude, I always thought the same, who in their right mind would think Broly remembers vividly that exact day when Goku cried and it's what moves him? The man has gone through A LOT of shit, how would someone whom he never met trigger him so much? It's probably the scene's fault, a product of its time when Goku was the star, but it's the only interpretation that has been repeated ad nauseam throughout the years and it just stuck to people who didn't care enough about a "not-canon movie based on a kid's show" I guess, a great injustice done to this film and the broken Broly. Glad to see someone on the same page, hope you enjoyed/will enjoy the new movie, because I will!

You're pretty much the only youtuber that I stop everything that I'm doing to watch your videos. God damn they're so informative and fun to watch ! I can't put into words how much I love your content man. You're my favorite youtuber at the moment by a mile and they always pretty much make me look back at a scene and make me appreciate everything that went into it. Onto the movie, Broly is my favorite Z film. I'm not sure whether it's due to the run time and being able to flesh out the setting a bit and having an equal amount of great fighting but I love it so much. I'll reply this comment as the video goes along:
God damn I can't even put into words how much stuff you've pointed out in this that I never even thought of. Shot composition, directing and everything. The only critcism (if you can even call it that) is that you're judging a bunch of scenes off of the original Japanese dub, when I'm a bit of a dub-head myself when it comes to Z
even though the new broly movie has some amazing animation (the ryo oshini bit being some of the best dbz animation ever done) i feel like the older movies have more cohesive art direction and the colour pallets are nicer and more interesting and help tell the story and emotions, something that is really lacking in super and the newer films, the newer stuff tends towards full saturation instead of subtle and interesting colour combinations. i also think the bgs tend to be a lot nicer in these older ones to. these older ones feel much better thought out as a whole piece rather than individual bits. great videos tho i really enjoy your breakdowns !
I really would love to hear about that particular moment in the fight with Majin Vegeta vs Goku where they start off head butting each other into quite possibly the best choreographed fights in Z.
Its a true dream come true to see the names of the artists finally showing up in a tribute/ breakdown. The art style of that era is desperately missed and beloved. So much detail, sharpness and mastery over the characters but what strike me the most is the consistency between cuts, barely noticeable if you have not a trained eyes.
Excellent video, Ajay! I'll admit that the first Broly movie is one of my favorite movies from the original Z film series which made learning about its production love it more. Kudos for it being one of your longer videos too, perfect to watch during a break. I have to say, Takeo Ide is indeed an excellent animator and his cut during the finale of the movie are brutal and full of impact. I can see why others wouldn't agree because of his rougher artwork but in my opinion, Ide is severely underrated. I await your video on him sometime in the future but I insist you take your time.Shoutout to Shida for being the MVP of this movie not only for nis cuts but his dedication to picking up the slack.I never knew Yukio Ebisawa was in the movie so thanks for that info. His art really is a sight to behold during this era.As for my guess on the mystery animator in the movie, it's got to be someone from another animation studio. Last time I recall this happening in a Dragon Ball Z film was Movie 5, with Yutaka Nakamura of all people animating Piccolo vs. Salza. Maybe he returned in this movie? Who knows but I would rely on looking at animator credits on the movie in the Japanese version or looking for the original genga. I'm counting on you and other members of the community to identify this mystery animator. Fantastic video, Ajay and you've been on a roll these past few months so keep it up! You're one of my favorite TH-camrs so I look forward to your future content(especially on the upcoming Super Broly movie next month) on this channel. Many thanks and blessings from Wani Ramirez. :)
I screamed “yeah baby” when I was notified that you got a new video in 20 minutes. I used your examples of great art as a reference you also did character design breakdown which helps me with my own designs greatly. You also helped me figure out who’s style is which in dragon ball super.
I LOVE this movie so much visually speaking! The fine and mostly consistent art and the crazy interesting use of colors is just something special to me.
Ajay, it would be amazing if you could go back through the whole of DBZ with videos like these. I would watch the crap out of those. Very interesting stuff.
Someone talking about the best (only good?) part of the original Broly movie? Kick ass! What a great idea to cover this to cap off the hype. Can't wait to sink my teeth into this one!
That movie was so well directed, all the video game/anime magazine were talking about it in Europe in the early 90’s. The OST was also very good and somehow sad. Nice breakdown, as usual ^_^.
Liked and Subscribed. Never really watched an animation breakdown before... This was different, I like it! I don't know a thing about animation, but I guess that shouldn't stop me from watching.
It's funny hearing how people complain about Goku still affecting Broly as an adult while completely forgetting that Goku's voice has LITERALLY NEVER changed in his entire life. I can totally see how the trauma gets triggered.
Also, this is what in excited about. So much of Super has been quite honestly bland and boring to look at. But from what we've seen from these trailers, that'll no longer be the case. I hope so much that the Shintani designs continue into the show and we get exciting and interesting characters and environments.
Love these breakdowns, it is always interesting taking the narrative out and just looking at the animation. Don't care for the movie on the narrative level, but it is interesting to look at. I'd be interesting in seeing some of the other movies get a breakdown. Movie 9 and 12 in particular.

It's really sad to see just how much of an impact Yamamuro caused in Z, only to become the "on and off" animator he is today, while i personally don't have as many issues with him like Ajay has, comparing him to his prime days is just depressing
What about Mamoru Hosoda's contributions to this film? I recall reading somewhere that this is the only dragon ball film he worked on when he was with Toei, and I swear that some of the facial expressions from Vegeta look like his work
Oops, I fucked up a scene. Turns out 15:17 to 15:49 is also Toshiyuki Kanno, not Hisada. Animation is hard and I'm a dumb dumb.
No you're not dumb, you are an intelligent person. Now, please do an animation Breakdown on DBZ RoF (Dragon Ball Z RoF)
That's k you provided great knowledge about all these people who worked on the original movie.
